I reckon we're in with a better chance than most people in here are giving us credit for. Essendon really aren't that good.
Yeah I don't think our coaches and players will have any excuses if they don't put on a good showing against a team, that although better than their ladder position, still isn't that good. Both teams have some key players out. No excuses for not having vastly improved pressure than the past two weeks - especially if Switta and Cerra are back in.

Last year in Round 1 we lost the game by waiting until the final quarter to apply satisfactory pressure against Essendon @ Marvel. We had 15 of our 33 tackles in the last quarter and we lost by a goal after kicking 4 goals to 1 in the 4th. Sturt kicked our last two goals of the game, Brayshaw missed a sitter, and we stuffed around with the ball outside our 50 in the last minute of the game.

Even without Ryan our decimated backline should be capable of negating Essendon's forward line better than they did against WC and Brisbane's. Although Conca needs to not let Tippa get off the leash or he will punish us. Same goes for Merrett (13 i50s last week) and McGrath (12 clearances last week) in the midfield. GWS almost lost the game at the end last week by not being accountable on Essendon's key players.

We are tracking ok, and ahead of where most thought we would be. Just a shame the chain of events. The Eagles are really hard to beat at Optus and they have shown that time and time again - that was disappointing. I thought we should plenty against Brisbane and it should have a closer result - our goal kicking is still horrendous.

If we played Brisbane here I think we would have the 4 points, but you never know when we play them later hopefully we have some our our KP players back. Sunday could be anything, but I believe on paper we have the better team - but that is biased because most tippers have predicted Essendon. We just need to be competitive as our percentage is reasonable for once 8 weeks in.

If Pearce was fit, Logue would be able to play smaller on Tippa

Nah, the guy that gets us every time is Tippa. Literally every time he gets the ball it's a goal outta nowhere.
Maybe it’s just me? But with Hamling, Pearce, Ryan out we
Don’t makeshift, bring in a tall to
Help Logue, Cox.
You can say what you like about Simpson but they lose McGovern, Barrass, Hurn, and the wheels don’t fall off.

... except that near 100 point loss

Their backline looked an absolute shambles the first quarter in the Derby and all we had to do was keep up the pace and pressure.
That's why most of us are totally gutted over that loss , the game was there for the taking and we shat the bed .

We'll lose unfortunately!
We just ain't that good
agreed.... But if Freo were full strength and in good form, I would back Freo to win.

Gutted the last 2 games vs Essendon at dockands, both games were narrow defeats and both games Alex Pearce has played he shut down Daniher.
Whats our record in Melbourne against essendon.

They have been crap for 2 decades and i can only remember beating them once at marvel.
last win vs Essendon at dockands was round 4 2010.
17 away games for 2 wins.....
2010 at Docklands and 1998 at Waverly
:(
sad reading isn't it? Then you think of the times Freo have narrowly lost to Essendon. Would of been nice to have pinched a couple of wins vs Essendon in dockands in the last 5 years.

Saying that..... I was glad I saw Freo win vs the crows in Adelaide oval. Sure we have multiple wins vs the crows in SA but never have thumped them in SA.

1995-2003, I have seen a few belongs the crows gave Freo. Take away 2021, Freo have had a few narrow wins vs the crows in SA between 2004-15

We'll win. I can see why everyone's confidence is shaken but I reckon were better than Essendon.
Lobb played his best ever game for us against them last year, hopefully his second half against Brisbane and memory of that game can get him dominating. Tucker third game back, cobwebs should be blown out by now. And Switta is important.
We'll win

If we were at home we'd be a lot more confident, but our form away has been patchy at best.
Must win game though for our season.

Essendon is unlucky not to have another 4 wins on the board.

We on the other hand were never in our 4 losses.

Stringer is a big out as he always bobs up and kicks his 2 or 3 against us. In saying that, I'm very concerned about this game and how we can negate their running/attacking style.

They do have a leaky defence, but don't think we can outscore them on their home deck. I'll stick with bombers by 57.

Our defense is a shambles, Ryan out the straw that broke the camels back, and we dont win shootouts so not sure where wins will come from at the moment.

4? I only count 3.

It is important to note their opponents in those games were Hawthorn, GWS and Sydney. Not exactly a glowing endorsement even if they had won those.

Essendon have had one good win against St Kilda - not them winning but the margin. If they play like they did then and we play like St Kilda did, we will get spanked. Their other win was against Collingwood which tells us nothing.

They got spanked by Port and Brisbane (almost 10 goals in each game) and also lost to Carlton.

Certainly looks like a game of whoever is least shit will win. Essendon are just as capable as we are in that department.

With Stringer kicking 4 against the Saints.

Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti is a key player. We might need to just start Logue on him.
