Geez what a cop out of respinsibility.

Well in that case if our inside mids are getting smashed he might as well get a message to the coach to take him off and sit him on the bench uniil those inside mids lift their game.
No it's not a cop out. How are receivers/wingmen suppose to receive the ball and use it if the inside players can't give it to them. What outside player racks up 25-30 possesion games consistently?
Same with forwards, How are they suppose to kick goals when the ball doesn't get there?

May as well as it wouldn't make a difference.

Atkins job is to get the receive and do damage on the outside. If he's going on the inside when a Matt Crouch is around, Atkins is not doing his job. Even if Atkins wins the ball, just due to the breakdown in structure it has caused.

There is a time and place for Atkins to go in and win it. Most of the time, however, I want him being a chip scab. An outside midfielder is there to capitalise on the hard work done by others and turn it into a potent offensive drive.

If the inside midfield is getting consistently belted, outside midfielders and forwards are redundant.

I've always backed him, still like him as a player, but I've lost my patience with him along with most others.
Atkins/Smith/both? How about Laird?
I lost faith with Atkins last year, railed against him, got shouted down every time he had a game where he was well-fed by the hard work of others. Atkins runs a lot :thumbsu: (outside) which is his job, but is almost completely bruise/contact/bump free. People forget that when he actually does something pro-active, tackles or bumps, it's noticeable and praiseworthy because it's a rarity. He's got a bullet-foot when clear and kicks some good goals, but is invisible/useless too often for mine. I used to be a big Atkins fan, too :grimacing:  .
Smithers: dunno what's happened with him (Laird, as well). Either oppo sides have worked out how to nullify their influence, or Smith has lost confidence (and therefore effectiveness) since his knee.

Poor snowflake complained.
Alot of people don't understand that if our inside midfielders are getting smashed (which is regularly) our outside midfielders are going to look like sh*t. It's like they're expected to get 20 plus possessions or they're useless.
It's no coincidence Atkins looked his best in 2016/2017

Most understand that. But we've got too many that need the ball gifted to them on a platter. Our forward line the same. We need players who can get their own ball. That said, coaching has a bit to do with it because they run so few through the middle and try so few change ups to get guys into games.

Yep. Those 3 plus pretty much everyone else with more than 20 games and for a variety of reasons. Some I'd try in a different role, others I'd just drop if form continues. Guys like Kelly and Lynch because I don't agree their roles help us win games when it matters. Major changes are required and it's hard at the moment thinking we'd get worse by dropping senior players for enthusiastic kids with a bit of talent. And I trust out talent ID guys to have young talent on the list. It just needs to get a chance.

Edit - not Rowell type talent, but enough to not be much worse than a severely out of form senior player.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not a fan of Atkins. His disposal has been shocking when he does get the ball.
I'm more defending outside midfielders in general who are on a hiding to nothing, and that goes with every club.

This is the thing for me.
Too many times he gets the ball in space and his 'elite' kick goes nowhere near a teammate.
Or he tries and shimmies around three opponents and gets caught HTB

The wrath of Port?

maaaate, don’t make me vomit.
I never intended to make you sick. I was just stating the obvious. I was using it to demonstrate that perhaps we might not be as bad as most are saying. Well that just went out the window. Now we have had to endure the wrath of the Suns. Not looking good at all. I haven't seen the game but I have a recording. Was going to sit down and maybe enjoy watching. Not so sure now.

Sorry, but I think this DOES show how the game has passed Blight by.

The entire modern game is built around pressure, turnovers and rebound. Having small, fast pressure forwards and defenders is a widespread part of the game now.
Thats what this means
“And the third and final thing is: if they get it, the nearest player puts on pressure. That’s as simple as the game is in its most simple philosophy.
