It might actually be genius to include treacy. when fyfe, meek or mundy go forward they will pick up best tall defender. treacy is suddenly against someone ill suited to play on him. similar to our scratch match when hamling came off he kicked some goals.
Yep and he's pretty good defensively as well which JLo likes.
They keep saying he's AFL ready, if that's the case then there is no better time than now.
He's not going to be a Charlie Dixon straight away but if as you say he plays his role it could create some challenges for the Dees defence.

Valente seems to be disadvantaged by his lack of versatility. It’s as if he’s an inside midfielder or nothing.
Look at every AFL team. The stars of each side tend to play in the B22 as inside mids. The hardest position in the AFL to break into a team and nail down a starting spot as a rookie.
So unless he can demonstrate some ability to play on a HFF or something, it’s going to be hard for him to get on the park.
Banfield is also an inside mid by trade but he’s managed to get plenty of games elsewhere due to his versatility and he’s not going to ever be in Freos best 22 as an inside midfielder.
Valence is disadvantaged by his inability to not be injured.

100%. May won’t be a spare man, Lever will be forced to go one on one, which is his weakness.
Even if Treacy isn’t ‘ready’ maturity wise, he’s still a valuable tall to have and forces defensive changes. With just Tabs, you know a long kick is coming and defenders will just swarm him. Worth a look at.
75 rotations is going to be key. Mundy and Fyfe can both play forward at once even.
Cerra, Brayshaw, Tucker, Serong plus Aish and Acres is enough

Can also throw Conca in there as well.

Mitch out, Sturt out, Sonny out, Freddy out... who even gives a **** at this point?
Let’s be honest. Sturt was always out pre season. Mitch is fringe 22. Frederick is just in the 22.
Of those, Walters is the big loss. Chance for others to take their spots.
Colyer, Switta, Schulz. Henry is a long way off.

if his minutes can be managed within the new rotation cap, i say have at it.

yes, he's young, but so was Serong (I appreciate Serong may be a rare talent, but inside mid is a pretty damn physically demanding role for a 19yo, too).

you gotta start getting that experience some time.

Just throwing in my two cents

- Play Cox forward, I don't care if he's settled into the backline, he's our best option to move forward after Lobb, and he's the only one out of the 3 talls down back who can actually impact anything up forward. A couple of months up forward for Lobb isn't going to stunt his development as a key back.

- Debut Treacy he's only going to improve if you play him, and I'd rather have a pure tall forward playing there than a defender being forced into the role. Yeah he may be a little underdone, but it'd be better than Pearce or Handling butchering our forward line apart.

So Taberner, Cox and Treacy need to be our 3 tall forwards in the time Lobb is injured, that's all there is to it.

Have to respectfully disagree. Do a Kevin Sheedy and throw Heath Chapman to the wolves up forward. Great mark, 6.4 or so and had the 9th fastest time nationally in the time trial - is is fit and can lead all day.

I'd like Chapman in Sturt's spot and Cox, Treacy, Taberner in the forwardline:

Henry, Treacy, Chapman
Cox, Taberner, Schultz/Switta

Young CHF line yes but with Mundy/Fyfe rotating through there, they'll bring enough leadership to make it work. IMO. You could also swap Cox/Henry depending on matchups/structure etc.

I genuinely believe May will not play Rnd 1.

Imagine if he’s knocked out or even a little disoriented. AFL power brokers will put a call into MCC to make sure zero brand risk on opening weekend.

Agreed. If we were counting on Frederick to play 22 games this year then we are bigger trouble than we all thought

A few on here bagging out Blakely. He is a Freo player FFS! A bit of loyalty and respect please. How many of you "critics" have pulled of the Freo jumper?
We all watch the game and have views about players rightly or wrongly.

Can you point out the criticism of Blakely is wrong or incorrect?

The authority to have a view based on football ability is pretty ignorant.

Always got to have a scapegoat. The reality is he'd still destroy any of us in footballing ability. Suspect he also doesn't care too much what a bunch of people on an online footy forum think given the contract he's on.

The criticism is verging on vitriol. No need for that in my view, especially when the player is one of ours.

Get ya hand off it. He's a professional footballer, I'm criticising his job performance. Loyalty to the club has nothing to do with it.

Just an interesting comparison here between Blakely & Dom Sheed.

Just put in a couple of clubs & came up with Sheed to compare against. Sheed has definitely improved his stats in the last 2 years with greater opportunity, where a lot of Blakelys stats are off half back.

Sometimes it’s about perception & opportunity. James Aish is also an interesting comparison over their careers, with similar career pathways from mid to back & back into the middle. Personally I think Aish is given a lot of leeway on here.

No way would I have guessed Blakely has a better DE than Sheed. Pretty amazing really.

Great post :)

Cox can play forward but kicking goals is the issue for him. He cant kick it through the two middle sticks lol keep him where he has shown his best footy. Moving him forward is a bad move just to cover someone in the short term. We arnt in premiership mode we are in development mode still this year even if we dont want to be.
