If we play Darcy, then there is no room for Fyfe, JOM, etc etc in the 22.

Then if Young comes back, we will have real midfield squeeze for spots.

Fyfe, JOM …. And? Love Fyfe but he’s not the same player he was 5 years ago.

JOM has largely been a waste of a trade.

If Young comes back, he takes a spot in the backline IMO.

I think horses for courses refers to Voss more than anyone.

He was fantastic against GC but if his form drops and we´re not winning we won´t be going with Amiss, Treacy, Voss, Jackson and Darcy. It´s too tall if we´re not winning and Voss is the easy one to drop if our forward pressure drops away.
Voss is an absolute lock… Darcy and/or Amiss go out before Voss does.
Form > Reputation

If you´re West Coast then by all means go with the young guys but surely you pick the 23 that´s most likely to win. We lost games against Melbourne and Sydney by going too young.

If JOM, Walters, etc are ready to play they should. Fyfe showed on the weekend what a difference a cool head makes in tight games.
JOM is not a 2 time Brownlow medallist. He doesn’t deserve the same special treatment.

Who are you dropping to bring in JOM and Walters

Ryan Pearce Walker
Clark Cox Chapman
Noddy Young Wagner
Bolton Treacy Reid
Dudley Amiss Voss

Jackson Brayshaw Serong

Johnson, Erasmus, Simpson, Freddy.

Sub: Fyfe.

Depth: Darcy, Walters, JOM, Sharp, Sturt, Worner, Walters

Anyone that is in Perth and can afford it should get a ticket to this game. Get it to 50k at least. We want North Melbourne getting the maximum possible profit from this game so that it continues long into the future. The extra home game during our premiership window is invaluable.

So if you haven't already, buy your ticket!

Curious, does North get the income from the game or WA Football who bought the game?

I thought North may get a fixed amount from the game (2.5 mill for 2 games a year)

No one.
Why does JOM have to come straight back in?
Midfield is working a treat for three weeks in a row. Erasmus has earned his spot.

Walters will need 2-3 weeks for Peel to be considered

Rucks these days hardly win outright nor get clear taps to advantage. Maybe Gawn this season but Melbourne still aren’t dominating with him. I mean Xerri battles hard for his taps, yet opposition learn to shark his taps.

So if Darcy battles the Xerris, Witts, etc and allow Jackson not get smashed is a massive win.

Also would love to see Jackson stay midfield then immediately go half forward. Who is manning him? Can’t have the half backs that usually defend those mids that go forward after the clearances. It’ll have to be a key defender. Suddenly that brings so many mismatches.

On the weekend Jackson took marks on the wing opposed Noah Anderson who is 192cm. Easy mismatch

The unicorn in action.
Interesting stat from Champion Data - Freo’s scoring when only Jackson, only Darcy and both are on field

Suggests the two rucks work better when one is on the bench… Not exactly a ringing endorsement of the two ruck combo. IMG_8849.jpeg

Nothing quite like looking for something to confirm your view.
Wait they have a saying for that don't they?

I mean when the stat does that blatantly confirm my view, it's worth using. I'm also not having a personal crack at Darcy, him on his own is also in the green, it's the use of both together which is having the negative impact, and the score differential is a reasonably unbiased and quantitative comparison.

A one game sample size (which that appears to be) is not a good measure

However, the sample size this year playing with one solo ruck is 6 wins, 2 losses… whilst with dual rucks (either Jackson and Darcy, or Jackson and Reidy) is 1 win, 3 losses

I don't think we have played Jackson and Darcy together, when both were fit all year.

You can ignore the games Reidy played, he is two levels below Jackson and Darcy

It actually doesn't, it just supports your existing belief which makes it easy for you to digest and use as a posit.

If you were honest with yourself you'd notice all the aspects of the stats that don't support your hypothesis. Isolating two players being on the ground vs score is an absurd metric to judge effectiveness. What if the score against is because of an unforced error by a defender, or even our scores for caused by forward half turnover that had nothing to do with stoppage?

Relying on stats like this to prove a point just shows you're not genuine in discussing the merits of each option. You've already decided and now you'll fight anyone that dares to say otherwise.

What about the fact that Jackson was fresher when he was solo ruck because Darcy took a lot of the load off? What about the fact that Voss kicked 3 goals because he didn't have to second ruck? What about the fact that Treacy was able to roam up the ground to provide an outlet contest because we had Voss stationed at full forward.

Your shallow analysis isn't convincing anyone.

Anything less than 17-20 is just pure conjecture - 30+ needed to start quoting stats with any real confidence.

I’m a bit nervous that Fyfe, Walters and JOM will receive instant best 22.

Any one of them can come off the bench but I don’t think they should be walk ins and all 3 would really slow us down IMO.

If we have all three of them plus Darcy in the side for the rest of the season we miss finals.
