Butts 4 from one, 0 from the other a real possibility. Polarising game - one hand kept Darcy to one goal, other hand did get 4FA (bad for a key defender) and his poor and lack of creative ball use was part of their first half lack of attacking.

Out: Libba Hynes Davidson
In: Dolan Jones Treloar

Don’t think the gap at AFL level is that wide between Croft and Lewis and Croft is much better in the ruck

The bye this week is frustrating for Treloar but if Libba also misses the Hawks game think we will need him in and would rather he get AFL minutes under his belt and this is the perfect game to do so

Hynes and Davidson haven’t been woeful but Coops just not quite ready and needs a little spell in the 2s whilst Davo just needs to find some consistency in his form like he started last year with

Wouldnt suprise me if Bev gave Butts no Votes due to the questionable treatment he was dealing out to Darcy.

I've come around to the idea of replacing Libba with Treloar. Ideally Treloar needs another game or two in the VFL to increase his match fitness. Keep in mind that he amassed 33 disposals, 5 tackles and a bunch of clearances in the VFL last weekend and this on the back of literally no pre-season match practice. Of course, there's an element of risk considering his injury history but he's a genuine star who, coming off the bench, should make a big impact.

Just realised we also have the Dons in the VFL next week as well where he would get literally nothing out of

If he is going to play they need to play him

Agreed. If he completes a game like session on the weekend, he can be managed through the AFL game at 70-75% game time with 5 on the bench.

I’m not getting ahead of ourselves but if there’s ever a week to carry a potentially underdone Treloar, it’s against the Bombers and with no Libba which seems like the perfect alignment.

I’m all ready for another game…do we really have to wait another 12 days? Sucks there’s no VFL this weekend to help with the withdrawals.

Whatever method keeps Treloar healthy for September is my 1st preference. If we need to slow down introducing him to AFL level so be it. Based on what I saw last week he is clearly best 23.

Im coming around to holding off for a few weeks, given bye VFL bye in AFL rounds R3 and 5. Bring home back against Sydney or Freo

In Arty and Dolan
Out Libba and Hynes

Sanders to show a bit more through midfield this is his chance to be more effective otherwise may be a swap for Treloar

We could go either way with Hynes, either send him back to Footscray or give him a good chunk of Libba's midfield minutes.

Our optimal current team probably excludes Hynes, but an extended midfield run may be a good investment.

Wouldn't be surprised if Dolan/Jones for Libba is the only change.

From what I saw in VFL, Dolan would be a lock to come in. I would play Treloar as the 5th man on the bench, and you could play managed minutes there, as a lot of clubs are doing, such as Collingwood with Pendlebury and co.

I think we need another small forward up there with Westy. Most of the other smalls roll into the midfield. Hynes needs a spell in the 2s go and play in the guts and get 30. I don't want to blame the kid, but his kick into the corridor to Jacques was the stimulus for Crows kicking 5. When you're the kid in the team, and you have Darcy and Naughton ahead of the ball, you kick to them when your 3 goals up. It would be a great teaching tool for Bevo and Co.
Libba's injury is annoying but not like he is needed for Essendon. In fairness, we could play the Footscray team, and they would win by 20 points.

How much does it cost to "secure" your seat for this game for those in the know? Given I am already on a membership that is meant to cater for access to home games, yet may not.

I always wonder with the coaches votes whether some coaches try and make a point either in favour of their team or equally against?

I would think if we are in contract negotiations with Sanders, we give him a taste of inside mid responsibilities in place of Libba. We could still play Treloar under managed minutes.

That’s his most natural position, excited to see what he can do. This could be the catalysis to really push him to the next level.

Will also give us a better balance, bringing in a genuine forward in Dolan/Jones

Im still hopeful both come up.
Same, I think both have a place in our best 23 & would bring another layer to our forward 50. Both can play higher up as well. So there’s flexibility. Too classy & dynamic a duo to leave out IMO.

This forward line looks pretty handy:

Dolan Naughton Freijah
West Darcy Jones

With Croft off the bench.
