Is it just me or would anyone else like to see nicho play a bit up forward and see what he can do?

Yup agree with this, had the same thought. couldn't hurt just to stick him up there for a bit. At least he has a go, has good speed and can actually tackle ffs unlike some.

The idea of Nicholson forward of centre is good, the further away from defence he is the less chance his kicking ends in direct goal to the opposition.

If there was a week to blood Lucas Cook it's this one, there is no defender in the backline at Carlton that's going to throw him around like a rag doll. Although you could make a case about leaving him forward, bringing in Gawn and cementing Jamar/Martin to the goal square for the game for the same reason.

I don't really mind who comes into and out of the side this week. I am more interested in finding out which players want to play for the jumper and their mates and who wants to be there next year.

While finals footy is still a possibility for 2011, however remote that prospect seems on current form, this week's game is the first of five chances to audition in front of the next senior coach. Every player will be heavily scrutinised in the next five weeks by any number of aspirants for the top job. If I was running out for Melbourne in the next five weeks and I wanted to play regular senior footy for the club in 2012, I would come out absolutely breathing fire.

No matter what the result is on Saturday, we will find out quite a bit about the players and that is actually pretty exciting. I will be at the game for sure.

I found it bloody hard to pick a team for this week on that handy 'Best 22' app on the MFC site. In the end I went with:

Out: Gysberts, Maric, Bate, Dunn
In: Macdonald, Davey, Cook, Scully

Davey to play fwd. Nicho as sub. Strauss lucky over Bartram. Same with Jurrah over Bate - LJ should be dropped but I don't think they have the guts. Gysberts looks bloody tired. We had far too many forwards last week, hopefully Scully is right to go. If not Bartram could come in.

Unlikely to get Cook playing, but hey, we can dream. I think it's time.

What I would like to see:

FB: Jamie Bennell Colin Garland James Strauss
HB: Joel MacDonald James Frawley Jared Rivers
C: Nathan Jones Jordie McKenzie Colin Sylvia
HF: Matthew Bate Jack Watts Luke Tapscott
FF: Aaron Davey Lynden Dunn Jeremy Howe
Foll: Mark Jamar Brent Moloney Jack Trengove
Int: Stefan Martin Ricky Petterd Sam Blease
Sub: Daniel Nicholson

Out: Brad Green, Liam Jurrah(made an example of), Addam Maric(omit), Jordie Gyberts (tired)
In: Sam Blease, Aaron Davey, Joel MacDonald, Jamie Bennell
Not In: Cook (Dunn and Bate in last chance saloon, need a fair go) Tom McDonald (needed a small, quick back to tag, otherwise would have been in) Rohan Bail, Tom Scully, Neville Jetta, Michael Evans (all injured)

OR alternatively:

Out - Everyone

In - nickgrant69, Biff, Marns, Crimson Azure, RandB, Gazza 11, Sylvia Saint, Syl, Big Sexc, Demon Revival, Deemy, Syrus, Dez, omit, ThePuppetMaster, WattsGoodForYou, High Flying Flag, whelan=legend, Andy Mac, The Dr, melbournemartin, Supermercado.

Coach: Deemanding

Apologies to those who missed out...

Pfft. Culture of apologizing to players.

What about because he has been great defensively in the majority of his games?

Out: Get a dartboard, number the players 1-20 (with McKenzie and Watts left off), blindfold Todd, give him 6 darts, and whoever they land on is playing for Casey this week.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Sylvia play anyway, given he has been named as an emergency. Disappointed not to see Evans, we need someone who will run hard and go into the guts.

That's bullshit...targets Sylvia who wasnt the worst and laid 9 tackles.

Monoley went statless, what about Green?

Evans has stress fractures in his back Gazza, which is unfortunate.

We are way to tall defensively.

I would expect Nicholson to come in. Bate playing doesn't please me, Dunn I can accept.

It's a statement from the selection panel though. I like the Jurrah omission more as I think you're right about Sylvia - Scully probably won't get up in time and he'll come back in.

Davey was a no brainer, Bartram and MacDonald bring stability and hardness to the back six, Gawn brings icon status and Scully brings a late change.

The Jurrah one has been overdue IMO. His first two seasons were awesome but he's been found out by the opposition and hasn't been able to add more tricks to his bag yet to overcome it. Will bounce back better for it.

Very happy with the changes though.

Moloney had the flu.

Green should be dropped, cut from the list, whatever.

Sylvia gave us nothing when we needed it and his defensive running is hopeless.

You're probably just pissed because he's in your dream team.

Sylvia actually lifted in the second half. Moloney and Green being in the team ahead of him is just embarressing. Actually, i can't remember the last time Green played a good game... says something.
