He's a good kick sure but not an attacking one.

If he's a good kick then he can attack with it.
Not everyone has a cannon for a kick but everyone can move the ball on quickly if they have the intent.
Keath has plenty of length in his kicks and can find a target but he needs to break the shackles and not be scared to make a mistake.

So... what do you then do if you drop jj.. and Himmelberg barely gets a touch but jj kicks 8 in the seconds? (Although I don’t think our sanfl side play this weekend do they?)

If Jenkins went back after being dropped and kicked 8, then it says to me that he is admitting he was not putting in the effort required and was coasting at AFL level. The other factor is that he is 30 and is at the tail end of his time and as we don't look like challenging this year, it seems better to try the youngsters

Our club wasting a season of our best young key forward prospect by trying to turn him into a key defender in the ****ing twos none the less ranks up there with one of the all time stupidest things we've done. And that's really saying something.

Remember when we had that debate pre-season about whether he should be a defender in the AFL for his development at the higher level, or a forward in the SANFL to practice his craft? We somehow managed the worst of ****ing both words.

Unless neither JJ or Himmelberg play & we go in with a smaller line up.

Hartigan has to go at a minimum. He's been horrendous this year. Two clangers from four disposals last week from 93% TOG.

It’s absolutely ridiculous to have this mix of players in a backline in 2019. 3 genuine talls, 2 of whom have zero skill or creativity by foot, and the other tall (Keath) who is understandably still finding his way in terms of decision making early in his career.

Then the “medium” among the group (Kelly) just has absolutely no football ability whatsoever other than being able to run and spoil. Seriously, it’s like his skills continue to devolve week by week. It’s like watching Shaq shoot free throws.

Gee, wonder why the ball movement out of defense is so stagnant when 67% of our defense is made up of these guys. Hmmmmmmm

Losing Brown prior to the start of the season was very costly. Losing Doedee in Rd 1, even moreso. Top that off with the awful form of Talia and Laird (and lets be honest, Smith has been pretty shit too), the continual ineptitude by foot of Hartigan and Kelly, the delisting of Cheney and the mishandling of Fogarty, and this is what we end up with. Losing Seedsman certainly hasn’t helped us with ball movement either.

It’s an absolute shitshow back there, and it won’t change any time soon.

They’re probably patting each other on the back because we haven’t been allowing 100 points, not realising that the lack of drive out of defense is the chief reason why we aren’t creating scoring opportunities, and the lack of scoring opportunities erodes the confidence of the team in general, and the erosion of confidence results in players taking the “safe” option, and taking the safe option results in a lack of scoring opportunities because it’s easy to defend...

Dropping Kelly and Hartigan for Sholl and one of Fogarty / Otten is clearly a better option than what we’re trotting out there right now. Maybe we take a hit defensively, but the ball movement would lift, and with it, so would the confidence of the team.

Because that would involve doing something different and we are so scared of trying new things, our coaches are so conservative it’s holding us back.

I’d be getting Sholl and Gibbs back there.
