Changes v Geelong

Ideally, I think having Roughy as the full time ruck in the future is the ideal scenario. My point is that I'm not sure Roughy is quite as athletic as many think he is (he's hardly the QE2 but you get my drift).

Right now I think Minson is still comfortably our best ruckman and I just don't see the sense in not playing him.

If Roughy comes in for another role as a chop out and or to play at either end then that's fine but right now I think it would be a terrible call to drop Minson for Roughy. Ultimately we want Roughy to graduate to that first ruck role but for the moment for a side that looks like a genuine finals contender it wouldn't make much sense to drop a big catalyst in your side and still your number 1 big man for a guy clearly battling some niggles and who the jury is still out on in regards to his ruck work.

I agree with what your saying, I just think you've pulled the trigger 1-2 years too soon.

Minson is our best ruckman, I won't argue with that but he's the least suitable ruck on our list as the other 3 have greater flexibility and can play multiple positions. The issue for me is that we have Tom Boyd a 201cm 19 year old kid who isn't fast and doesn't have a great tank (currently). He isn't having the impact we know he will have in 3 - 5 years time and I'm pretty keen on playing him as the 2nd ruck to not only improve his fitness but it allows us to pick a geniune forward like Redpath/or an upgrade on Redpath (who 9/10 times is going to have more impact as a forward than Campbell/Cordy/Roughead). There is no player in the league that is 200cm or over who can play as a geniune CHF and plays significant ruck minutes and thats what we will need to keep Boydy out of the ruck. Daniher might but they don't fall off trees.

So either we drop Minson and play Roughy as the main ruck or we push Roughead back into defence (which I'm not keen on). The sooner we move Roughead into the main ruck role the better IMO. Its probably 1 year too soon but its the combination that will take us forward. Then we can decide whether Redpath is the long term solution or do we find an upgrade at CHF.

Looking forward to this. Love playing at Simmonds.

Do not love the annual forking over of approximately $1,000,000 for a seat.

Going to the game. Confidence is high based on the Norf game. Their supporters certainly rise to the bait down there. Just got to keep the line tight enough to enjoy the fight but not so tight one of them jumps out of the water to try to belt your head in. Ahh well; no one said fishing was supposed to be easy :)

At the end of the day, who have we got to replace Boyd? Nobody can really play that role except Cordy. Which begs the question. Would you rather get another game of development into Toyd, or would you give a game to Cordy?

Answers pretty simple in my view. He's not costing us games. Keep the big fella in and back him to turn it around

Crameri still a week away
Had a shocking first half then finally moved back into the forward line and played great

Roughead could probably go up there and bring the ball to ground, might even hold on to an uncontested mark or two.

If Roughys in the team, he plays ruck and equal parts forward and back for me. Not an 80/20 forward/relief ruck.

We miss Crameris big body and hard running. He's just not a midfielder though, has never really had the skillset of a mid. Can see what Bevs doing by trying to make him develop those skills in the 2s but he has and always will play his best footy at half forward, and he does a huge amount of work which opens the game up for Boyd, Red and Stringer. Not sure how we fit Boyd, Stringer, Red, Crameri, Minno, Rough. It just doesnt work.

Is Hamilton getting close to a run? Travelling with the team like Daniel did before his debut. Could be a perfect fit for the half forward role that SHOULD be hunter's.

Some ideas on key match ups?

Who goes to Hawkins? Also, what's our best ruck combo to run with Blicavs?

Also agree with Fronk. We have to keep playing Toyd. He needs games and as many opportunities we can afford to give him. No point him sitting in the Reserves when he's already doing a lot of what he's being asked of...provide a contest and be a target. The rest will come...he's good enough

None off the player have experience win at Geelong nor have beaten this since late in 2009 at our home ground at Etihad stadium .

I'm also of the play Tom Boyd in the seniors camp. Tom has some things he needs to improve upon in his contested marking and presenting to the ball, but beating up on smaller and lesser quality defenders in the VFL will not teach him these things - he needs to break some habits learned from his junior days when he could rely almost exclusively on size and reach to beat his opponents.

In addition, regardless of whether Tom is hitting the scoreboard or racking up possessions, he still brings significant positives to our game and structure and also takes the number 1 or 2 defender away. Provided he keeps halving contests in the forward line I say keep Tom in the seniors and when he needs a rest, send him surfing, not playing in the VFL against spuds hell bent on making a name for themselves. Bad shit happens in those situations.

Not sure why but I'm pretty confident heading into this game. If selwood is rubbed out its our game to lose. Only Hawkins and Taylor and their dominance troubles me. Our midfield, small defenders and Stringer should play well here.

Hawkins is a massive issue. Roberts probably gets the job, but he looked completely farked at the end of the Cairns game, so who knows whether he comes up. He also seemed to limp quite a bit during the game. And even if he is fully fit, he's going to get mauled by the Tomahawk.

We're going to need a shiteload of wood/hamling/morris 3rd man up action to keep him from blowing us away.

Our zone defence leaves me much more confident that the man on man stuff, we just don't get smashed by opposition KPF's are regularly as we use to. All Hawkins will see is the back of Woodys head as he floats in and takes another intercept mark.

This is why Hamling has to play if fit. He is great assisting Wood with the extra in marking contests and can help us combat Hawkins. Even if it comes at the expense of Morris, Hamling plays in my view. Morris is not strong in the air, nor as third up. Our zone defense has been very good this year and Hamling plays for this to continue to work at its best.

Out: Stevens, Prudden.
In: Hamling, Roughead.

Really want Dale in the team, but think Hunter should get a full game in the ones to prove himself.
