Thought Lipinski was ok in relative terms but there you go.

Hopefully Cordy and McLean have copped their kick in the backside and put their best foot forward.

Good to have Libba back. Was a bit concerned when he wasn’t picked last Week given he was strictly for, but I’m sure he’d love to dish a bit out.
Not sure Lipinski was that good. I saw a couple of efforts that were pretty weak from him. I think Bevo and the MC expect a lot more from Lippa. Hence the reason he is out. Like the changes. We need another ruck to help English, but Bevo... well we all know.

Why is English not a one out ruckman? He’s the exact prototype who’s just yet to hit is physical peak. Huge tank, good hands, good skills. The AFL has been full of late developing ruckman. Including Jacobs. English is no different to them, except he may be better than most.
4 years in the system, and he doesn't just lose the hitouts, he loses them by a lot.
Has not yet reached his physical peak? He turns 23 this year; he should've made big strides by now physically, but he's still getting smashed. He's even getting smashed by players who are younger than him.

Yes, his around the ground game is strong, but we will always be conceding a disadvantage at stoppages while he is rucking, because he's so easy to push away.

I don't think there's been that much vitriol directed towards Gardner. I'm bemused and pissed off with Bev for picking him.
In defence of Gardner, if I remember correctly, Brian Lake was a bit of a spud in his early years. Coaches persevered with him and he turned out to be a top back. Who knows, Gardner may makes us eat our words.

Here’s an idea guys. English is a decent forward. Put him in the forward line with Bruce, Naughton full back, the backline looks so much better, so does the forward line. Then, play Trengove or Sweet in the ruck 75%. When English goes into the ruck, Trengove can go back or forward. So many options. If Bevo loves this versatility

Excuse me? Who?

If that happens I would be more then happy to be the first to put up hand up and eat my words

I think McLean was more of a swap for Gowers. I don't think he will play many midfield minutes at all.

Unlucky Patrick Lipinski you were double eight on the dartboard and it's hard to throw a double eight while blindfolded and
dressed as a woman, such are the many perils of Bulldog selection. Did he not play well Bevo ? The dart board never lies
son.

Just seen the selected teams – too short
GWS have 4 talls back and 3 forward
We have 2 talls back and 2 forward
Be prepared for the zone to be pulled apart and mismatches a plenty
No second ruck – Bevo is an idiot
I’m at meltdown already o_O

If only Bevo would realise that coaching an AFL team is as simple as selecting an equal or greater number of tall players than your opponent.

You’re a bit confusing here. Are you saying he hasn’t reached physical peak yet but should have or he has and he’s just not a good ruckman regardless?

We’d be absolutely foolish not to persevere with Tim. As i mentioned before, has all the attributes and will become a better stoppage ruckman along the way.

Had a look over the stats as Lipinski was far from our bottom 3 against the Saints, but I’m shocked Dale has kept his place after another poor game.

9 possessions from over 75% time on ground. Ok, so not getting the ball much so what is he doing without it? 1 tackle, 2 one-percenters & 3 pressure acts. 3!!!!!!

Who'd be best to put in the side in his place, given that McLean is already in for Gowers? I'd say West but he's still training with a strapped up knee.

I really question our line up for this game.

So, we are going in with a severely undersized backline for a game that will be played in perfect conditions.

If our backline is undersized, we will need our midfield to cut off supply to keep the talls in check. But so far this season, our midfield has really struggled to be defensive enough, and has not controlled the middle either. Also, to try and restrict the plastics, we should put on as much forward half pressure as possible, but we haven't named any really impactful pressure forwards, or forwards who really chase. We have 2 talls with 3 leading forwards, and toby mclean.

Finally, by naming a more mobile running backline, we are going to try and outscore the opposition by running harder and faster. But, this season we have struggled to score, and i would have thought it unlikely that we would kick 15 goals..

I believe that we are always in with a shot in every game, but looking at this team, I am finding it hard to get excited.

I’m more annoyed that Lipinski is out instead of Dale. Dale has never proven anything other than a flash in the pan few weeks where we were destroying everybody.

He has never shown he can even moderately impact a game unless everything is going our way. 3 goalless games in a row under 10 disposals and a whopping 2 tackles in 3 games.

Dale isn’t a footballer a$$

I’ve said it for years, he went ok when the team was going well but he isn’t getting a sniff against good teams when it matters.

One of the culprits as to why this list isn’t as good as some think it is. If he is starting 22 we aren’t winning squat

Ps now I’ve said this watch him kick a bag tomorrow 🤦🏼‍♂️

Kid can play - but he absolutely needs his defensive contribution at an elite level in the AFL. When he lets that drop, then he is useless.
When he works hard on defensive pressure, his long arms, goal sense and kicking elevate him to a pretty handy forward.

We have a bigger issue - the team looks entirely dispirited, can't sustain pressure for more than 5 minutes.

Agreed re Dale needing to lift defensively but the way we are structuring up I think it’s easier said than done. Not an easy task being a dogs forward right now. I think Lipinski was dropped to clear space for Libba and McLean. Take out Dale or Lloyd and you take out a goal kicker

Disagree

He is not up to it And if we were any good he wouldn’t be playing but I’m past caring this year so let him play 🤷🏼‍♂️

If you’re gonna drop a mid, make it Macrae, he is our new turnover king. Seriously these selections, Lloyd and Dale very lucky, JJ too!

Jack Macrae - 2020

4
turnovers in total for 2020 and one against the Saints (in comparison for 2020 Bonti has had 10, Smith 7, Dunkley 5).

Macrae is ranked 6th for disposal efficiency and 1st for midfielders.

Macrae is ranked 8th for kicking efficiency and 2nd for midfielders behind Lipinski (minimum five kicks)

Macrae is ranked 5th for handball efficiency and 2nd for midfielders behind Hunter (minimum five handballs)

He has kicked a goal while Bonti and Smith have both kicked 0 and had 0 score assists.

The problem isn't Macrae it's where he is playing. He spent 49% of the game on the wing against the Saints compared to an average of 2% in 2019.
