We can not go resting anyone just yet.

we must play the best team we can that is suited to the team we are playing.

Kerridge, MacKay, laird and Rutten must come back in.

Henderson must gain some fitness and form (his game against CDFC wasn't great and only played a half against NAFC), so I can not see him coming back this week.

Out: not really sure - maybe Porplizia, (MacKay), Luke Thompson (Rutten), Lyons (Kerridge) and laird could be squeezed out this week and play in the state league side as I doubt we will make 4 changed after a great win.

Luke Thompson could replace Rutten for the Hawthorn game (Gunston) with Henderson (Martin) and laird (Reilly maybe) coming in as well.

I wouldn't want to play a bad game right now or your place could be in so e serious jeopardy.

Why would you drop Thompson for Rutten and then swap back a week later?

Dropping Thompson after that game would be a kick in the guts.

Because he isn't big enough for Patten or Cameron.

Talia will take Cameron and Rutten will take patten
Talia will take Roughead and Thompson on Gunston for the hawks game.

I am of the opinion we must get to our best 22 on the park ASAP.

Going by our inconsistent season, I am of the opinion we don't hand out golden tickets. We should be rewarding the guys who get the job done the week before. If it was a star player that missed the game like Dangerfield or Sloane, sure bring them back in but none of those guys above are automatic walk up starts IMO. Maybe bring back Kerridge or Mackay this week for Porps but I don't see the need for making 4 changes to a winning side that doesn't include Henderson.

Possession isn't 9/10th of the law in this case.

Kerridge, laird and MacKay don't deserve to play state league. Talk about a kick in the guts.

Laird was squeezed out and was very unlucky but 1 good game doesn't mean they forget the crap from the past few rounds.

Patton, Cameron and Boyd are all big mobile units. I would have Thompson on Cameron, Talia on Patton and I would have Henderson on Boyd. Thompson is way taller, faster and more mobile than Rutten and is the same height as Cameron who plays more of a mobile forward than just a lead up power forward. Talia is almost the same height as Patton and would easily blanket him while Hendo has a massive leap and could account for the inexperienced Boyd. I would use Otten as the spare man.

I am talking about guys like Thompson and Lyons ultimately getting dropped here when they don't deserve it. Kerridge, Laird and Mackay don't deserve to be automatic walk up starts in the side either. Kerridge maybe but Laird and Mackay have hardly contributed to an extent that forces them into our absolute best 22.

Oh really?

That's news to me.

It makes sense to me. Our best 22 for one opposition team is not necessarily going to be the best 22 for another. With a few key players back from injury I wonder if we have the depth and player buy in to actually pick our 22 according to our opponent?

Select the absolute best 22 then and you will see how difficult it is. Henderson is the last piece of the puzzle to come back from injury. This means some very unlucky players will be sitting in the twos for the remainder of the season barring injury and form. Whose it going to be?

But right now - Ricky Henderson is not best 22 as his form doesn't warrant it.

It may only take one or two more games to demonstrate he is back to his best firm but he has to play a few more games in the state league but right now - he isn't best 22.

Brad hardly demonstrated that either.

Brad hardly demonstrated that either.

Brad Crouch played 2 state league games and played 2 very good games to show his good form and Tom lynch has an excellent state league game as well.

Ricky Henderson has played 1 & 1/2 games and his 1 whole game against CDFC wasn't much to write home about.

We will have to see which way the selection committee swings. The media coming out of West Lakes strongly hints Hendo is on the brink of a return. Considering they bulked at selecting him for the showdown could very well suggest he is destined for another week in the rezzies!

Mackay in for Reilly is the likely change.

I was lucky enough to get into the rooms after the game and Danger couldn't walk up the stairs he had to drag himself but if he says he will get up I believe him.

Porps to sub and Lyons to get a full game he played very well last time we met GWS in Sydney. Can't afford to take them lightly short break and they are much improved.

Why would you drop Thompson for Rutten and then swap back a week later?
Agreed. Would make no sense. That would be like picking Lyons for one game, dropping him for Matt Crouch then picking Lyons ahead of Crouch again the week after even though the reserves didn't play.

Don't like the idea of chopping and changing our backline. The good teams have a stable and consistent defence that is the cornerstone of their line up. Needs to be verstaile enough to cope with slightly bigger, smaller, quicker... line ups.

I like Luke Thompson and would like to see him succeed. But if he needs to be protected from players like Patton/Boyd then he can't play for us.

He stays in for mine.

That's a really immature attitude. The best teams are ruthless at selection - no matter how good the team was last week, if it can be improved, then we need to do it.

I'd rest Paddy.

I'd drop Reilly for Hendo.
I'd drop Otten for Truck (structure - and I'd like LT to get a decent run).
I'd drop Porps for M Crouch.
I'd drop Pods for Mackay or Grigg.
Show me an example where a team has beaten the top side and then has swung the axe. 4 changes? Cripes we dropped 4 after losing to Melbourne, and everyone knew that was a big statement designed to shake up the team.

But after a massive win? Geez, how'd you like to play for a club where you are part of a team that beats the top side in the comp and then cuts 4 of those players! Loyalty and reward? Pfft. Who needs that!

Two factors to consider here.. Who do we have to come back in? Who do we have to match up in GWS' team?

Henderson - has only played a half of football since returning from a long break, will need at least another week in the SANFL before he has the match fitness to play at AFL level. Not this week.
Kerridge & Laird - Both were late omissions from yesterday's team and comments here indicate that neither are likely to be ready for next week.
Cameron - Hasn't played in a month and could probably do with a run in the SANFL to get himself back up to speed, before returning to the big league.
Mackay - Should (hopefully) be over his concussion and should come straight back into the side.
Rutten - Depends whether you choose to believe he was omitted, or "rested" against Port. Either way, he's available for selection. Depends on whether or not the selectors trust Thompson & Otten against the GWS tall forwards.
Hartigan - Has missed the last 5 games since falling out of favour with the selectors and didn't get any help with the SANFL bye last weekend. I can't see Otten being dropped and it's difficult to see him jumping ahead of Truck, which means he probably won't play against GWS.
M Crouch & M Grigg - Continue to ply their trade in the SANFL. Neither got to make a case for promotion this week, courtesy of the bye, so they'll both probably be back in the SANFL again next week.

In short, Mackay is the only certainty to return, with Rutten being the most likely of the others.

So, who comes out?

The popular answer here on BF is obviously Reilly. He had a shocker yesterday, repeatedly finding Port Adelaide players with his kicks. However, his previous two games were very good and that may be enough to save him (for one more week at least). Porplyzia was the player subbed out, despite having played well in the first half. He was also one of the last players selected, coming into the team when Laird & Kerridge dropped out. He's also clearly in his last season, so the motivation for selecting him against GWS won't be high.

The selectors will also mull over what to do with their tall defenders. GWS have three high quality tall forwards, who will all need to be guarded. Talia will take one of them - that's a no brainer. Otten will probably get another. That leaves Luke Thompson, who did nothing wrong against Port and deserves another game. This one could go either way, depending on whether Truck was really "rested" or omitted.

My guess..
IN: Mackay, possibly Rutten
OUT: Porplyzia, possibly L Thompson
