WHY was Lyons leapfrogged in the queue by Porplyzia against the Power?
To make it easier to drop him for lack of game time...

Yeah, strange treatment.

I don't know and don't care, both aren't in our best 22. Maybe they thought Porps would be better in the wet? I'm not sure what that has to do with this weeks game.

My issue is this. I feel if Jarryd Lyons is given a full game to prove himself in our midfield that he wont be dropped again as I believe he's best 21 material. Because he's not being afforded that opportunity he's constantly being dumped out of the side. Last week was a prime opportunity to do so and we chose to bump an emergency over playing him.

It shits me. That's all.

Last training prior to the selection meeting this week:

Sanderson: "So Radar, how've you pulled up after the weekend? Bit sore?"
Reilly: "No actually Sando I feel gre.."
Sanderson: "That's a shame, I could have really used you this week but if you're carrying a knock I'd rather not risk you."
Reilly: "Sando, honestly I'm 100% fit, I feel fi.."
Sanderson: "Shhhh no need for the heroics Radar, you're injured, I understand. What you need is to just see the physios and give your body time to recover."

I'm not sure they've gotten selections right to be honest. Yes they needed a bigger body against some of their bigger young tall forwards but we should be backing in Hartigan. Also would of picked Luke Thompson ahead of Otten just based on the showdown. Would have kept Porplyzia in for Laird and rearranged. Got it right dropping Reilly. Mackay for Lyons is harsh but fair given their standing as respective players.
Would've gone: Mackay, Henderson, Hartigan in, and Reilly, Otten, Lyons out. Missed a beat.

Who does he bump out of that current team? Martin maybe, but that would be it.

Mackay is also having a terrific year and is an automatic best 22 member. I don't get why Otto cops so much heat on here, just does his job with a minimum of fuss. He's one of those players I don't even worry about. Hartigan was never going to come in off a bye, and Truck is the big body to take Patton.

I'm glad for Truck, Hendo and Mackay in. Brings some speed (and defensive pressure), some skill, some defensive size, some experience and the latter brings settle (calmness in a tight spot). That last part can't be understated, this game isnt as easy to win as some think, it isnt suprising to me that we've had trouble travelling with an inexperienced side. Its an issue we haven't had for a while (recent seasons - def a prob this season). Good to get in some guys who are used to doing the travelling routine. Hendo can be forgiven for being nervous perhaps, but the other two should definitely help the side. Having Lynch and Crouchy in as well will help this. Can't wait, first real good travelling side we've had for a while. Also should be one of our best pressuring sides we've had for a while, we've really lifted that a notch in two out of the last 3 games, so really hope we do it well on the weekend and get ourselves 5% more.

I have supported playing Truck until the start of this season. You haven't answered my question.

Name the games that Truck has been a key factor in the Crows winning? Arguably his best game was against St Kilda (the bottom team). He was stitched up by the Suns Charlie Dixon and looked very average against Freo. I don't believe we would have won against Poort if Truck had played, Luke Thompson's pace was critical in saving a couple of goals.

The very best we can hope for is to win 6 of our last 8 games and we will finish 7th or 8th. This year 12 wins is unlikely to be enough. Even if we sneak into the eight, this year is all about preparing for 2015. Playing a final (or two :)) would be great for our younger players, including our key position backmen, but waiting until next year to sort out our best defence is both soft selection and makes no sense. We are not talking about Scott Thompson who continues to be one of our best players. We are talking about a player who is barely in our best 22.

The Adelaide Football Club - We love to be ordinary.
Your last sentence is ironic given you don't want us to play our best 22.

Afc will not tank for you or anyone when finals are in grasp.

Best 22 or 21 is debatable. But you'd notice I did select him as an in. Rutten is retiring at the end of the year and we need to pump games into Hartigan or we will be in trouble next year in a year where we should be pushing for a decent spot in the eight. It being the bye doesnt mean much to me, he's fit to play. For anyone at the game on Sunday they would have seen Otten struggle and Luke Thompson play very well. It's really that simple. We need to pick players on form.

our strongest team this year and gives a real indication on where some players are in terms of our best 22

Replace Martin with Cameron and we are getting pretty close to our very best side
Kerridge would replace Martin.

Is Cameron in our best 22? Would need to displace someone like Wright unless a tall forward is dropped.

we need to pump games into Hartigan

Why exactly are we pumping games into a player when we haven't decided yet if it's going to be him or someone else replacing Rutten going forward?

Hartigan hasn't made it, and hasn't yet displayed he has the capacity to make it at AFL level.

My ideal team would have Cameron in for Pods. Otten and Hendo give us enough tall flexibility.

How did the usual dominating Hoff go on Otten?

L Thompson plays 1 handy game & suddenly he is best 22...

Rutten is still in our best 22 if a suitable match up - you don't pump games into younger players for the sake of it when in finals hunt.

Young man in his first season with a groin injury - that's wrap him up in cotton wool for next year territory.

Happy to see him take a couple of more weeks, then some SANFL to lead him into a good pre season

Really feel for Lyons, badly treated last week.

I don't like the collective 3 slow defensive talls. Would definitely get rid of one of Rutten/Otten for one of Hartigan/LT.

Apart from that all that's missing from our best line up are Cameron and Kerridge, possibly for Martin and Laird.

Sando has said that Charlie is already very important to our structure

Regardless it's good to start to see quality pressure for spots
