Apologies for any inconvenience. We will try to find a replacement.
Yes, but I'd imagine that Roarke will become part of the back 6 rotation as opposed to having to use Treloar or Williams as they add more value up the ground - especially if Duryea or similar was injured and had to be replaced. Could also play wing if required. It may be that Williams has effectively taken West's spot.Isn't that what the Duryea inclusion was for?
We have named 7 genuine defenders not including Treloar or Williams. There is zero chance we’re using Roarke as part of our defensive 7.Yes, but I'd imagine that Roarke will become part of the back 6 rotation as opposed to having to use Treloar or Williams as they add more value up the ground - especially if Duryea or similar was injured and had to be replaced. you will not win a premiership with fringe players like Roarke and Cordy.

No way. He is a Sharks fan. He does not even follow AFL. But then this would explain the unexplainable random selections. Before we condemn the whole Match Committee for the dropping of West and other ( to us) strange decisions made throughout the year, maybe we should look deeper at the actions of the man with the most power. What if one person has secretly appointed himself to numerous positions on the MC ( deputy MC leader, first alternate MC delegate, MC person responsible for non-Ruckmen in a ruckman role, etc) and so always wins the vote? It has happened in other institutions.
Totally agree. If West decides to move to another club:I just read West has been dropped. I am just gobsmacked by our selection. I know we are not the ‘experts’. But many of us have been involved in footy for 30,40,50 even 60+ years. In what universe is VDM ahead of West? Selection these last few years has been appalling, but this one more than any makes me angry. Bevo is destroying this kid, and playing favourites again. Selection integrity is non existent.
Whilst I agree with your sentiment. Bruce wasn’t dropped, he was managed. His inclusion is based on us needing another talk for ruck support and forward support, and whilst I don’t think it should be his position, the other choices are Josh Schache who appears to be gone, Stefan Martin who is very very old, Sweet in the ruck and English forward/ruck (which is probably my preference - though I don’t think the overall net benefit would differ too much from what we have). Can't understand the Bruce or R Smith selections at all. Not sure how Bruce miraculously regained form when the VFL team had a bye last week. R Smith has been solid at VFL level without ever looking likely to make much impact at senior level. Both would want to play a meaningful role against the Hawks or the angst directed at our MC will continue to grow.
I'd be more "understanding" of the West decision if it was a like for like replacement who was kicking goals at VFL level. Instead we bring in Rourke who probably gets his usual 12-16 disposals at VFL level and maybe snares a goal.
This type of selection pisses the entire supporter base off. Another occasion where we have to spin the magnets and position a player in a unnatural/different position without any real basis to do so.
West’s kicked 2 goals in the last 5 weeks, and besides a couple of nice assists in that time, hasn’t done a lot. His last two weeks have been particularly poor. For a small fwd, it’s a pretty poor return.
They’ve obviously decided to go taller up fwd, so a small’s missed out. VDM’s been poor for 1 week, West for multiple. It’s not really a controversial selection choice.
I could understand that if it were mid-season. It’s a must-win game and he is easily best 22. This isn’t Bevo looking after West, it’s Bevo being Bevo. Some of the comments about West leaving the club are just ridiculous. He's been given 14 consecutive games and his form had clearly tapered off.
The club look at a lot more data than we do regarding ground covered, second efforts etc, maybe he's just a young player who needs a spell
Its more "who we replaced him with" not "why was he dropped"
I think if Garcia had been recalled or we had a small forward banging down the door at VFL level then most of us would understand the rationale.
Rourke Smith as the replacement though makes no sense. Then it goes back to the argument I made. There a pretty good chance that Rourke will play on the wing and then we are pushing someone forward to replace West but hasn't played forward much.
Not to mention we just dropped McNeil who also can play a similar role.
The more important the match, the more appropriate it would be to spell somebody who's showing signs they've reached the end of their campaign.I could understand that if it were mid-season. It’s a must-win game and he is easily best 22. This isn’t Bevo looking after West, it’s Bevo being Bevo.
Good god, I hope there are some changes in our footy department at the end of the year.
Stats only tell half the story. He hit a couple of GWS players bloody hard last week, shrugged numerous tackles and his hands were excellent. He is a very good footballer. Players like Roarke Smith are a dime a dozen.West’s kicked 2 goals in the last 5 weeks, and besides a couple of nice assists in that time, hasn’t done a lot. We aren’t going taller though. We’ve dropped two small fwds. I think that’s enough to tell us the strategy is to go taller.
Nothing to do with like for like selections.
We aren’t going taller though.
Bruce replaces Martin
Duryea in for Mcneil
Rourke in for West.
The tall structure remains the same. It’s the players and their positions that have completely changed.
Not if the replacement has a particular role to play which is different from the one West had and which may not be required this week, or is being covered by someone else. As has been pointed out, the coaches have a lot more data than we do and see the game panning out in ways we wouldn’t think of.Its more "who we replaced him with" not "why was he dropped"

I hope that is not aimed at me for having an opinion.
