Mate I remember teams in the early 80s where our spine included Jim McAllister, Mark Komp, Terry De Koning, Ross Christensen, Allister Ford and Bill Berry. No-one who remembers that era can remotely think this team is worse.

Bill Berry wasn't that bad, I'd replace him in that group with the Taylor brothers, Andrew and John, and throw in Roger Cordy and Mark Noble as reserves

Does anyone know if Schache is still on the sides lines due to injury or just didn’t get picked ?

Schache has been injured, and I think that is still the primary reason that he isn't in the side.

However, he is clearly on the outer in terms of selection behind Bruce and Naughton.

Hello, Just wondering about Schache. Reckon he'll come good or is he just not really up to it?

The jury is still deliberating, but the negative signs from some important jury members are beginning to look ominous.

He has genuine ability so could still make it, but is starting to run out of opportunities.
I think his biggest problem has been a lack of desire/desperation and/or recognition that he needs to do more in games than provide the occasional goal.
He needs to become a 4 quarter player that opponents are scared of kicking 3+ against them unless they cover him well.
Injury absences aside, his performance curve was on an upward trajectory last season, but it was still on a fairly shallow gradient.
He was showing more desperation, and composure in contested situations but still struggled to get involved enough throughout games.

Unfortunately for Schache our coaching panel is very fickle and they appear to have run short on patience with him.

Feel Schache has been treated poorly 1 good game and 1 terrible game in the rain and on all aus chb recieving poor delivery and minimal support from team mates. A lot more patience has been shown to other players.

I think this is part of the problem. Some players get multiple, long opportunities to show something and others get dropped after one bad performance when there are mitigating circumstance.

Just compare Gardner to Trengove- no matter what you think about either how has one been given a chance and the other hasn’t this year? And if it’s about giving younger players a chance where is Lewis Yiung? And why did Suckling get a bunch of games?

I’m sure it happens at most clubs but there are obvious favourites here, which I’d hope is due to something good we can’t see (attitude, professionalism etc) because many of the selection decisions sure as hell don’t make sense on exposed afl form. If it isn’t then we may have one of the best actual coaches in the comp but one of the worst selection panels.

I think if Adelaide prepare well and plan to bring a high level of pressure (in the right areas), and the dogs are mentally off, could be their first win. Dogs could equally find some resolve and if not pressured, some much needed finesse and connection resulting in a good win. Obviously hope like crazy it’s the latter!

We’ve had serious issues with letting sides that are down and out into games in recent years. It’s a serious danger game. They’ve been more competitive in recent weeks Adelaide and I wish they’d bobbed up and won one. They’ll pinch one eventually.

I think it’s likely that we have some non-negotiables and sadly some of Schaches bad traits probably fall into this category. We know he has the skill.

Bevo is willing to tolerate bare form but he has certain expectations that are inflexible, which is why I think some players like McLean, Schache, Young and Trengove seem to be marked so harshly.

In Schache’s case, I reckon Bevo would accept not kicking goals or taking marks if he laid the odd tackle and crashed some packs. As awful as Bruce has been at times, he at least forces a contest.

I like him but if he can’t change his ways he won’t have a long career.
