Well they're going to have to .
This is the most physically demanding professional sport, and young players hit the wall.
That's different from packing up and deciding now not to aim for the highest finish possible. The players want it even if they are going to hit the wall.

Agree with this, push the players to their limits and let the achieve the best possible result they can.

Bevo has all season rewarded those players who play well and to his structures, he hasn't cared whether they are young or not dale, Webb, McLean, Daniel didn't get games cause they are young they got games cause they were performing and even though it's unpopular with us Cordy and Goodes etc. got games for performing as well.

If we pack up shop for this season and just play kids for the sake of development no matter their performances then we begin down the Melbourne path, reward who is performing and push the limits of what's achievable and we will be a better team in the long run.

Are we "packing it in for the season"?? Absolutely not. We've played the kids all year. That's nothing new for beveridge.

But I can definitely see us staggering a bit under the injury toll. Stevens is a massive out, we seriously miss Roberts and hamling, and if Wallis is no good, things are very very thin in there. I'd like to see hrovat given a clean run in the midfield over the next month.

Getting a final (or two) into Boyd, Bont, Macrae, Stringer, JJ, Roberts, Handling etc will be more valuable in the long run than a game or two into the likes of Prudden or Dale or Hamilton now. Not to mention the exposure and reward for our old guys. It'll be hard with our injuries but we need to keep pressing for finals.

I think this is Hrovat's big chance. Being the type of guy he is i think he takes it with both hands - i still have faith in him

Nothing truer than the comments of the season being a marathon...not a sprint.

I think the Dogs sprinted out of the blocks with renewed energy after a crappy off season and we got some good wins on the board early. But, it is a long season and young bodies tire.

Dimma said that July was when the big boys came out to play...reckon he's a month early because our last six to eight games could look like those marathon runners that are dead on their feet and is only muscle memory and a huge ticker getting them to the line. Still...none of us would suggest our season has been wasted...we've achieved more than I personally thought we would.

We're developing at a huge rate and as much as I hope we end up in the 8 and play finals this year, our 2015 highlights reel will still be massive if we don't.

Looking forward to contributing to the "What Went Right" thread at the end of the season.

Greg Denham just said we are licking our chops about playing an undermanned Collingwood and should win. So thats just about the nail in our coffin...:(

Would love to see Hrovat given the opportunity to prove the doubters like me wrong. But if he doesn't get given an opportunity in a depleted midfield - when will he??

With all the injuries I think we just have to back in guys like Jong, Hrovat and Hunter to find some form with extended minutes in the guts. Quietly confident one or two will step up,
backing Hunter this week if he gets given the responsibility.

Just need to rotate heavily and share the load this week I think. I love TC and he definitely deserves another game but IMO you cant go in with Rough, TC, Boyd and Red, especially in a shoot out with the pies under the roof. That way Boyd does the 2nd ruck work and were not top heavy.

Packing up for the year is a ridiculous statement. We are currently sitting 6th and only 2 games out of the 4 and have only 1 team to play that is currently higher than us on the ladder. Is Bevo saying "Alright boys lets just coast from now on, Koby is done, Wally is sore, there is no point trying anymore, so no more injuries and lets just see out the year and prepare for 2016"

Not a chance!

Totally this. We probably will miss finals but not due to effort. Injuries and a young team are taking their toll. Still, at the start of the year, I would have given away someone else's first born to be where we are now.

We will make finals, got good money on it at 5 to 1!!! It starts this sunday. We are just as good if not better than the Pies. Then all we need is another 3 wins, we can and will do it.

No more negativity. Injuries are a part of footy and they create opportunities. Jong come on down and bring that early season form with you!

Hrovat was truly dreadful in the VFL and is just returning from an injury. I'd like to see what he can do as well but I don't think he's quite ready. Next week perhaps. We're already likely to take one guy who hasn't quite got his touch back into the game (Jong); I'm not fond of taking another.

Monty did say they'd like to start calming the team down despite Roarke Smith being a chance to play this week. I read this as we're going to make a serious play for finals from here on in. Getting/keeping our best defenders fit will be a big part of it (Roberts, Hamling, Roughead and even aging Morris) Having said that, lose this weekend and it becomes increasingly difficult to stay in contention with our run home. Such a blessed fixture for us this year and we've be fantastic in making the most of it.

Roarke Smith a chance to be elevated and also debut according to Stevo.

Montgomery brought that up last night on radio that Roarke was a chance. They need to decide today if they're going to get the paperwork in and if it's financially worth it upgrading a rookie for just 1 or 2 games. Pretty sure it almost doubles his salary overnight.

Seven games to go, injuries playing an important time at the moment, good luck for us that the Pies are also somewhat affected, we'll get some of our injured players back over the next couple of weeks and give the finals a fair crack, in some ways forcing some players to get a well earned rest, things are going and turning out alright. Have faith the glass is more than half full.

Heard a rumour or two about this week against the Black and (jesse) White. According to my sources, the Western Bulldogs defence has been demoted to the VFL as Collingwood do not have a forward line (Jesse White's best position is the red vest). Therefore the doggiesh wont be able to attack from defence, meaning Collingwoood legend Jonathan Marsh is certain to kick a bakers dozen. Also would be appreciated if you gave Nick "The Trick" Maxwell a like on facebook.

Thoughts, queries, concerns????

Cheers,
Beauie.

So what would that cost us pro rata for the rest of the year ... $30k?

I know that might be the difference between us trading at a profit or a loss for the year but it's concerning that the best football operations decision, the chance to see whether he's any good at AFL level and the opportunity to give the youngster invaluable experience could all hinge on whether that amount is affordable.

At Hawthorn, Collingwood or West Coast they wouldn't bat an eyelid doing it.

I remember having my first beer

 with our other outs this would really hurt
A lot of time between now and then, they will give him every chance to play (especially as it's just a bruise isn't it?). I reckon he'll either play or be a late, late out.

I'm concerned about the state of primary school education in this country. Now put away your iPad before teacher sees you.

TO be honest, I hope the club don't take the money thing into consideration. If it is worth doing for the team or for the player, it is worth paying for. If it does happen I imagine they will place Smith where Prudden has been playing, would that be correct? black pup what role could you see Smith playing in the ones?
