Changes vs Essendon

Yep they'll have ryder, hurley, fletcher, stanton come in for them.
Hurley played today, Stanton is doubtful for next week.

Goldy will have his work cut out against Bellchambers and Ryder (if he plays).
I recall in round one they had Goldy play deep defence on Ryder when he went forward, which did not work out well for us.

They might be very tall in their fwd line.
They might have gumby, Hurley,Ryder and carmeri in there.

The match ups for our current side might be
Ryder - Grima
Gumby - spud
Hurley - Thompson
Carmeri- McMahon/wright

Might need another tall but that will impact our run out of defence.
Would rather we play to our strengths and go head to head with our game plan hopefully coming out on top.

I highly doubt both Ryder and Gumby would be in the forward line at the same time.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Garlett dropped. He has played better games than that one and been dropped.

I hear ye ya. 'The Holden' not only led the tackle count for us on the weekend, but also contested possessions, and importantly, the clearances, so would be pretty damn unlucky to get dropped. But, yeah, I hear ye ya.

Wouldn't be against JMac spending some time back in the 2's, but I have a feeling that donning the red vest on Saturday will be the closest thing we'll see to him getting a rocket right at this point in time.

Adams comes straight back in

Out has to be one of Mullet or Flash as neither (IMO) are capable of playing 4 good quarters against a side like Essendon. So it comes down to who you want us sub/who will help our structure more in the last quarter - a fresh forward pocket / midfielder or a fresh HBF/midfielder. IMO th extra run will be most important in the middle so I'd play Flash despite Mullet's good effort on Saturday

No where near playing well.

This bolded point I can't agree with. Hansen is better than Pedersen. He is a top 3 pick for a reason and not a rookie. The only knock people have on him is that he looks laconic. But if we talk skills, marking and endurance, I would take Hansen every day of the week. Hansen is one of our best marks at the club.
I didn't realise that being named in the bests was criteria for selection.
He was played mostly in the centre, so he was never going to score either.

However, he played well. Took good marks in slippery conditions and had long penetrating kicks. The only blight was at ground level where his handpasses were at the feet.

That said, I would bring him in for Taz, not Hansen.

Oh, and speight didn't play as well as reported

Not sure that Hansen is a favourite of Scott, he kept him out of the team longer than expected earlier this year.
Scott made it pretty clear in his presser yesterday that he was happy with how the 3 talls were walking together as a unit so I don't see that being tinkered with unless they have a significant drop in form or get injured.

Another thing is we need these two to take this experience theyre gaining now into training the next wave of forwards later......the blacks, currans the whoevers when Drewy hangs em up. Its way easier if we have these two as a main focal points with the newbies coming in and being the 3rd tall.

Like Mullett, such a good type of player. The mark against Addison showed great judgement and positioning against a player who troubled 3 of our defensive players at times. Flash is solid, but not sure how much his pace is worth against a potential hole filler like Mullett.

Something about Mullett makes me think he has the same qualities that Patch has (underated toughness)........and dont forget that Mullett has some toe as well.....remember the chase down of Buddy?!!!

Why?

Its a bit hard to play a full game when he is made sub every time he gets his chance! If he was dropped after that impressive display (with other similar type players out of form) it would be very unfair surely.

No way I'd play Mcmahon on Crameri. 6'1" 95kg player with elite speed. You'd have to think Spud would physically match up better. I think we just play our back 6 as we have been. Thompson takes the deepest forward, grima the next and Spud the third tall. Atley plays on the quickest bloke, Wright picks up the creative type and Mcmahon picks up hopefully the 6th best forward to allow him to create.
We're likely to have the 4 talls in the forward line (Crameri, Ryder, Hurley and Ryder) similar to what West Coast had earlier in the year. I'm assuming Ryder will be taken by Thompson, Firrito on Hurley, Grima on Gumbleton and then who does that leave on Crameri? McMahon? Or Wright?

And yes, we still will be mobile, because of the speed of Ryder, Crameri and (when 100%) Hurley

A good side always has unlucky blokes at the selection table.

True, but we haven't played like a good side for the last couple of weeks - arguably three if Richmond is included.

Mullett should stay - him (kicking) and Atley (speed) off the HBF looks the goods to me.

Because as good as he was, he was probably made sub because the coaching staff didn't believe he was up to 4 quarters at AFL level. Also currently JMac, Wright, Firrito, McMahon, Atley are all ahead of him if we are talking 4 quarters at BP/HBF. People said Flash "deserved a full game" after the last couple of efforts as Sub and look how that turned out.

Maybe, but we all knew Flash can't play a full game so that was a surprising move by Scott (seems to be the only one that hasn't picked it up yet).

Purely because of that I think its harsh to say Mullet can't play 4 quarters based on what we've seen- surely he can get a full game to prove one way or the other!

No doubt they have the mobility. The question mark will be over the leading patterns. I doubt those 4 would've ever trained with that setup, let alone played a match with it.

I'm sure they have, as Hird has been saying since he started that Gumby was best 22. As a general rule; Crameri leads up onto the flank then doubles back, Ryder likes up the middle, Hurley does something similar to Crameri on the opposite flank and Gumby goes where ever he wants to. But they all have different patterns, and Gumby is basically Monfries with an extra 5 inches

I doubt those 4 would've been fit to train together at any stage of 2012. By the way, Hird said Monfries is playing as well.

I'm assuming Monfries will be playing Winderlich's role. If we get it right, you'll have Mullett/Atley/Wright on either Monfries or Crameri.

Mullet definitely looks like he has a future. The problem for him at the moment, when comparing to Campbell, is his position. The ideal sub role is a runner who can provide pace and link up play during the later stages of games. Campbell does this to perfection. Not sure we need a back flanker coming in as a sub in a big game. Mullet may be able to push into midfield also, but he needs to prove that first. Campbell is our safest sub option at the moment.

Wright wouldn't be a terrible matchup. He's pretty tall and good overhead, just doesn't have the pace to go with Crameri. If we're really in trouble, we have a couple of very capable CHB's in Hansen and Tarrant who could be moved.

I like Cruize, but if Adams comes back in it's a straight decision between the two of them unless we want another clearance player, which I don't think we will against the Dons given Adams pushes up to contests in the middle anyway.

Would have no issue with Mullett replacing Macmillan though, even if it's just a kick up the backside.
