lynch won't play? i laughed:thumbsu:

Petrenko is a terrible footballer, no where near our best 22, all he can do is tackle. Against any average opposition he is terrible at AFL level. I still haven't forgiven him for the 2012 Prelim, where he had 4 touches....4 TOUCHES, 14 dream team points. Disgrace

it's not what I want to happen, but what I think will happen. sando made just one forced change for the saints, I think he will back the group to get it done again

Blame the coaching staff that played him majorly unfit.

He should never have been picked.

he may not be 'afl quality', but I'm confident that if he was given 3 full games in a row he would be a damn sight better than what he displayed in the 15 or so minutes he had in which to perform on sunday.
In retrospect you're probably right.. but only because the baseline he set on Sunday was so low that it would be almost impossible for him not to show even a marginal improvement. "Damn sight better" is probably a bit over the top. "Better, but still nowhere near AFL standard" is a distinct possibility.

Alex, need to pay credit where credit is due Pets was good last week and the combination of Pets and Betts was even better and high value on the team

Happy for Pets to stay in at the moment as we need to move to a performance based selection policy and his performance last week warrants selection this week

I am also happy for players not to get dropped after one poor game as everyone has a dog gay from time to time however 2-3 bad games in a row or a bad game every 2nd week is an issue

Look Matty J has in the past been my whipping boy but credit where credit is due he is playing reasonably well but more importantly starting to have an influence on the game and deserves to be in the 22

To me "best 22 on paper" should be banned, we select the best 22 on form and on form Pets is in our best 22 for next week

Right now, we should not be looking week to week as we are not a top 4 side. We should be looking forward and creating this vision of what out next premiership side would look like.

If Brent Reilly comes out, who replaced him as that zoning free defender? If Henderson was free, yes - Reilly could then become an out but I don't think we have anyone who can play that role right now. Therefore, right now (key part) Brent Reilly stays.

Mitchell Grigg should play close to 250 games for the club and has done nothing wrong this season to be dropped. Since he was an 11th hour out, I'd suggest he was very close to playing Sunday (the club doesn't play stupid mind games right!!!) and comes back in this week.

Kerridge plays an important role - stays in.

Therefore, looking at the future and structure - lynch comes in for Petrenko and Grigg comes back for Martin.

We can not keep giving games to crap players based on good games against very bad teams. It only enhanced this reputation we are a flag track bully.

So if say, Pets kicked 4 and had his 20 touches he still gets dropped ?? No he doesn't. He had a really good game, you dont drop a guy after hes played probably one of his best 2-3 games of AFL footy, what message does that send ??

Bolded bits don't match. If you want to drop Pets (I agree, I don't really want him in there either) then you should also want Reilly dropped for say CEY.

If we have better players to bring back in then it's irelevant how good a player was the week before. Right at the moment we still have some injuries so Pets will be fine, but dropping good players (in good form or not) for better players is part of being a great team.

No way in hell Pets gets dropped.......for now. Knowing Pets, he will most likely play himself out of the side soon enough, unless Eddie has made a huge impact on his ability and confidence.

Martin for Lynch my only change. But who then goes to sub, Matt Crouch?

I want Grigg back in the side as bad as anyone else, but who goes out?
- Reilly is a possibility obviously but I cant see Sando making the change as much as it's the obvious choice.
- Im going to be hated for saying it, but Matt Crouch? I think our side would benefit more from having Grigg in our side than a Junior.

Junior's time will come next year when Thommo most likely calls time. Someone is also going to have to make way from Bradley remember....

Gut feel is that Crouch is a more likely selection than Grigg (even if fit), based on recent form. I also wouldn't be overly surprised to see Laird or Brown make way. That said, I think Reilly is the most likely candidate for a week or two in the SANFL (maybe even longer).

If Laird, Brown or Grigg dont make the team then the selectors are just as stupid as we all (except Vader) think they are.

Could someone please tell me how much did we beat GWS last time? It was under 10 points in the trial game?

Also in that game did Otten and Douglas both go down before HT? thanks.

Lynch went down at the start of the 2nd. Douglas also in the 2nd. Otten in the 3rd IIRC?

When we played them last season we pumped them by 100+ points. Cant remember the trail game margin

You can't have your cake & eat it too. If Crouch stays when Grigg returns (and I think he will) then someone else will have to miss out. My preference would be to drop Reilly, but Laird or Brown would not overly surprise me. That's just my reading of the tea leaves.

Thanks mate much appreciated. I am almost definite it was under 10 points, the margin was irrelevant as were counting the cost of the horrific injuries to our team, we lost 3 players for our R1 clash. I dont care what anyone says, but those 3 players IMO made the difference to winning or losing in R1. Up to that game, we had good momentum and were traveling well too in the preseason.

But he didn't, so your argument is irrelevant.

So, CEY would play the same role?

No, but as soon as Henderson is back - Reilly would be in some serious trouble.

Grigg can play as that high half forward role who offered plenty of pressure acts but better than that, he can win his own ball and be a constructive influence on the forward line.

Petrenko doesn't have those offensive ball winning skills.

But he didn't, so your argument is irrelevant.
Hardly irrelevant. In almost every statistical category he had a better day than Eddie Betts, now im not suggesting he was better than him but there is no way he will be dropped nor should he be. It would be like dropping Crouch for Grigg, it just wont happen.

IMO it would be worth giving Lynch another week in the SANFL. His pre season was considerably interupted and as we saw with Brad Crouch you can really struggle off the back of that. But having said that, drop Martin and Reilly who actually played poorly and bring in Lynch and Grigg and have Pets as sub to come on for Lynch when he runs out of gas. Thats if we want to use the sub as it should be rather than a last in first out tactic

Get on board the Petrenko train. All I read after the first two weeks is that we are the worst tackling team, soft and need to toughen up.

Petrenko has played only 2 of 4 games and is our 4th leading tackler with 15. He is the #1 at our club in average tackles per game. His forward line pressure has been great in both games.

Now i understand he doesn't kick enough goals for some, nor does he get enough of the football but he does address a major glaring weakness in our squad - toughness & tackling. Now we obviously can't carry a team of petrenko's, however considering our teams balance - he needs to stay in for a few more weeks.

17 to 22 possessions is the new 10 to 12 possession game. We (every team) just uses the ball way too much and simply looking at stats over values the players importance.

However, we have been doing this for players on and off for the past 12 years.

We would have players perform badly against good side, we would beat up on a few crap side and the seduce supporters into believe they are good enough to perform against the top teams. They can not.

Petrenko can not. He is the new Shirley, doughty, Massie, Matthew Bode, Ian Perrie, Biglands. He looks very good against crap players but goes to jelly when the pressure is on.

Tine to cut him loose and move forward.

This is a good point but doesn't excuse keeping Petrenko in the side.

He should be given the pink slip with Porps.

36 goals from turnovers.

Doesn't matter how many good tacklers we have, keep turning the ball over and we won't win any game.

Unskilled player need not apply for game day selection.

Petrenko is the new Doughty? And you want to drop him?

Wait wait wait - Are we talking about the same Doughty?

231 game Doughty. The same Doughty who finished top 10 in our clubs Best & Fairest 5 times (4 of which were years we made the finals). The same Doughty who finished in our top 5 in the clubs best and fairest 3 times...

If Brent Reilly comes out, who replaced him as that zoning free defender? If Henderson was free, yes - Reilly could then become an out but I don't think we have anyone who can play that role right now.

Brodie Smith is already playing that role part of the time, and moving Reilly out of the side means that Jaensch can play it the remainder of the time.

Both have elite kicks and pace. Reilly can't defend in a phone box, is slow, and makes poor decisions.

He's getting dropped unless Rutten is rested.

The same Robert Shirley who repeatedly made Chris Judd his bitch (there would be literally nobody with a better record against Judd in his prime) and the same Robert Shirley who Gary Ablett once named on the Footy Show as the first player in his list of 'the best taggers in the game'?

Cool story.
