Why isnt tom boyd getting called up his been good at the vfl

Was ok in the ruck and I mean ok. Minno kicked 3, Toyd kicked zero. Even the 5 the week before weren't game changing. I'm in his court. Dalrymple has the runs for me to be. I'm yet to see him take a game by the neck - well and truly so I think calls for his elevation remain premature. If he gets elevated on form I'll back him in but on that basis even the most biased would have to elevate Minno in front of him this week. Redpath also played better in the 1s than Boyd in the 2s albeit both had only average games. I don't see it as emotional, I don't see as a contract choice, I can't see the differnce in structure so it just comes back to form for me. And Toyd just isn't there currently.

Could we bring Roughead in to run with Ben Brown while he's up forward then follow him into the ruck?

Minson in to run with Goldstein.

Boyd to play just up forward, Redpath out.

In: Boyd, Boyd, Hrovat, Picken, Roughead, Roberts, Minson.

Out: Campbell (inj), Grant (broken nose), Pearce, Smith, Hambling, Daniel, Biggs.

Funny. I wasn't able to watch the game so it's almost like it never happened. Which in turn makes a lot of the comments on here sound completely ridiculous.

If either Boyd or Picken are unable to come back this week, I really feel we need to bring Goodes in as a strong body who can play inside to compete with the big inside mids that Norf have at their disposal. And wouldn't it be a fairytale if he could get one last chance at AFL footy and really run with it and drive us into September! jong simply wasn't up too it last week. He's had his chance. Now it's time for Goodes to get another crack. He can kick goals and also play in defense. He deserves one more chance.

I hear what you are saying, but Goodes is yesterday's man. He isn't the future of the club or the direction we need to go. Any game that Goodes plays now is 1 less game we get into the kids.

Bev has played nearly the entire list, purely to see what he has at his disposal. As I keep saying, this is still a development year and our current position is an unexpected bonus.

I was surprised at the Pearce selection, but I think it may have been made because he is a WA boy and it might be his last chance. Bev strikes me as that kinda guy, let the kid play one last game in front of his family and friends, even if it was as sub.

I also think that there was more at play on the weekend in terms of staying "fresh" for the last two rounds and the travel. The blowout at the end wasn't to the script but we live and learn

Pearce was drafted in 2011 from Oakleigh Chargers. Not sure where the WA link comes from.

Believe me, ignorance is bliss :(

Great post. I'm exactly the same. Gives some good perspective on how reactionary we all are.

Biggs has been one of our best 5 players over the last 3 weeks IMO. Yet after a poor game in a backline that was under siege from an under performing midfield, against the 2nd placed team, in perth, with a bunch of kids playing next to him, he's on the chopping block.

I might be getting confused. I was sure he was a WA boy.....maybe it was Schoefield???

Schofield was from WA. I like what Beveridge is doing though, he's having a good look at all players on our list & is building depth at the same time.
Sadly, I doubt we will see Pearce again at senior level.

Doggies would really be throwing North a bone if they didn't pick Minson this week. Even if he's out of form he'd be able to create a more even contest against Goldstein than anyone else on your list.
Goldy would eat Boyd alive.

When have we ever gone into a game with Boyd as our primary ruckman?

Goodes is a big chance in the next few weeks.

You can say what you like about Redpath but from what I've seen of him prior to the West Coast game - at Docklands he creates chances. Providing he converts those chances he should be good for 3-4 goals a game and gets involved in a couple more for others.

He's never going to be the 'answer' but he's done his bit. Unless we convert Roberts, Talia or Roughead he's jostling with Boyd for one place and he's earned his spot. Can't see him and Boyd playing in the same team though unless they rotate through the ruck and full forward.

Boyd will come good but as we've seen in games where he's bought the red vest, he can go completely absent when he's beaten. And from reports it happened in the VFL last week.

Changes for me - Grant may need a spell, broken nose or not. Talia's already fragile confidence may not be high. So Roberts deserves his spot back.

I say this every bloody week but Lukas Webb should be playing in the senior team, whatever his form is in the VFL, because whenever he was in the 1s he was great and shouldn't have been dropped. He is someone who should be crafting his skills at the highest level.

Hi guys, really looking forward to this one. My Dad and Grandpa are Doggies supporters and I've been to quite a few of your games this year. Two areas of interest for me with selection for you guys, backline and ruck. We go with three genuinely big and strong forwards so Fletch must be an in, but even then him and Hamling are on the lighter side so Wood will definitely need to play loose. I dare say that'll happen too due to us playing Hansen as a loose ourselves. And Goldy has obviously been in good form, so Campbell can't go it alone.

On the flipside I'm really concerned with the way you guys move the ball. We tend to get a bit lost at sea when opposition rebounds, so Murphy and Johannisen could really carve us up.

Anyway it should be a cracking game and hopefully we get a decent sized crowd there. Good luck

Come back from the dark side Anakin. The force is with us.

Hahahaha yeah I don't know what prompted me to support the Kangas, nobody in my family does. Dad is actually a recent convert having supported Fitzroy back in the day, and only recently been able to really move on; it hit him pretty hard. I proudly consider the Doggies my second club though (I know it won't mean much to you guys), and am happy to be an extra number for attendance. Us small clubs have to stick together.
