Hahahaha yeah I don't know what prompted me to support the Kangas, nobody in my family does. Dad is actually a recent convert having supported Fitzroy back in the day, and only recently been able to really move on; it hit him pretty hard. I proudly consider the Doggies my second club though (I know it won't mean much to you guys), and am happy to be an extra number for attendance. Us small clubs have to stick together.

Your dad and your grandpa told me that they have cut you out of their wills.

Goldstein is a problem but less than NN IMO. He's better just not as irresistible.

I reckon roughy and Boyd in, plus Boyd and picken.

Out goes roarke, grant, Campbell and Jong.

Out: Smith, Pearce, Hamling
In: MBoyd, Picken, Roughead

If Campbell is injured, bring Minson in.

If Morris is injured, keep Hamling.

If Grant is injured, bring in Honeychurch or Hrovat or best performed midfielder/wing in the ressies over the past month.

I'm scared without Dale Morris. I have visions of Petrie going on a rampage.
Out (Campbell grant Morris inj) smith Pearce redpath
In Minson Boyd Picken Boyd Roughead Hrovat
Lots of changes but we need best 22 now

It's pretty much a fact that Boyd is a better mark and doesn't give away free kicks, so yeah I'm standing by that post.
Redpath is massively overrated on this board, he's a big country footballer playing in the big leagues and making a good fist of it. Boyd is the best key forward prospect to walk into the Whitten Oval since Chris Grant, they aren't even comparable.
I'm all for keeping Red in the side but not at the expense of an in form Boyd (not there yet) and a mobile structure (they both can't play in the same side). But let's be honest he's back up at best and a liability at worst.

I think you're getting fact confused with personal opinion IM.... I don't argue that that Toyd is the future and will be a super star and should be playing but the real facts are Redpath is averaging more marks per game than Tom this year, with the same average contested marks? (1.3 per game) He also is averaging more goals per game and score assists.... You are factual in one point however Jack has given away more free kicks than Tom (14 vs 8)... And just because other people see the good in what Jack brings to the team doesn't make him over rated.... I don't think there is person on this board who would say Redpath will be better than Toyd, not even Jacks mum :-)

On the VFL radio stream I heard the commentators say Boyd gave away a questionable free kick against Steinberg on Friday night and was visably angry and frustrated so he shoved Steinberg back to the ground as he was getting up. LOVED hearing that, needs a bit more mongrel.
Sure did...happened right in front of me....my guess it was built up frustration as there was always an essendon player hanging off him (generally steinberg) and no free kicks given....though from my view the umpires were in perfect sight.....you are correct in thinking great to see some aggression from the big fella with the flip side being he will have to get used to the attention....

I suspect Stringer is going to kick a bag against their suspect backline. We need to refresh our midfield. Who should come in and who gets a rest?

I think Jong goes out, ever since he injured his hand he doesnt seem to have the same confidence.

Campbell replaced by Minson

Morris replaced by Roughead ( down back and in the ruck)

Jong replaced by Picken

Smith or Pearce replaced by M. Boyd

Grant replaced by Boyd

I think they will try one last time to see if Boyd and Redpath work together. If they both do play and Roughead stays in, i see Minson Boyd and Redpath rotating in the ruck and Roughead staying down back.

Outs: Grant, Morris (inj), Campbell (inj), Pearce, Hamling, any player carrying a niggle from the weekend.

Ins: Moyd, Picken, Boyd, Webb, Roughead.

Smith won't get dropped Bev will probably make him sub, if he wants best 22.

This is the game we have to get ourselves prepared for finals football. Beveridge and the MC have done an outstanding job with rewarding players with good VFL form, getting games into the young kids, and trialling players in different positions in order to identify our best squad. However, right now is the time to pull the trigger and say I think this is our best side and this will be our line-up for week 1 of the finals. I will throw up my thoughts on what I think the best side is, but I am more than happy for the MC to pick their best squad, as long as it is just that. If we need to rest guys or Bev really feels he needs to see a bloke before making a call on his future, they can tinker a little with our side to play Brisbane, who will hopefully be looking towards Mad Monday celebrations. I still think we go in with minimal outs from our best 22 to ensure continuity going into finals and to make sure that we get a healthy win for both confidence and percentage.

It is extraordinarily harsh but we can't go into finals with Pearce and R. Smith in the side. The other glaring obvious for me is Roberts has been the best KPD when playing and needs to return to the line-up despite mediocre VFL form (from memory he didn't have great form when he first came back anyway). If Roughead is in our best 22 he needs to return this week also. The biggest conundrum the match committee has for me is I believe only 2 of Roughy, Campbell, Tom Boyd and Redpath can play for team balance (unless Roughy is playing KPD). I really don't know which 2 are the best options.

This weeks/week 1 finals squad:
FB: Murphy, Roberts, Morris
HB: Wood, Talia*, M. Boyd
C: JJ, Wallis, Macrae
HF: Dahlhaus, Stringer, Dickson
FF: Crameri, Redpath*, Hunter
Fol: Roughead*, Bontempelli, Picken

Int: Biggs, Grant, Honeychurch
Sub: Hrovat

*Talia could be exchanged for Hamling. Not a big fan of Talia but at least he has body strength. Hamling for me is more a backup/replacement for Morris.
*Redpath could be exchanged for T. Boyd.
*Roughead could be exchanged for Campbell.

Great post. I'm exactly the same. Gives some good perspective on how reactionary we all are.

Biggs has been one of our best 5 players over the last 3 weeks IMO. Yet after a poor game in a backline that was under siege from an under performing midfield, against the 2nd placed team, in perth, with a bunch of kids playing next to him, he's on the chopping block.

Yeah agreed, there's no way Biggs should go out based on his form over the last few weeks.

He made two really bad mistakes on the weekend that led directly to goal which I think has stuck in people's mind regarding his game. Overall wasn't that bad in the context of things.

I've been calling for Red and T.Boyd to play together for a few weeks, but I really think it can work this week if Roughy replaces Campbell in the ruck. Roughy is mobile enough to play in defence too if we need him, or around the ground so it's not like we have 3 big / slow dinosaurs who lack mobility out there. Start with Red and T. Boyd up fwd, Roughy in the ruck, if things down back get bad like on Sunday then Rough can go back on Brown or Petrie and Boyd / Red go into the ruck. Hopefully no injuries so if you need the run, look to sub off Red or T. Boyd.

In that scenario and with bench time etc they would really only probably play 20/30% of the game together up fwd.

I think we can beat North. My main concern is about their fwd line and whether we have the right defenders to cover Petrie, Thomas, Brown and Waite.

I think Biggs to Thomas, Hamling to Petrie and maybe Roberts to Waite. But then we need to cover Brown and Goldstein who pinch hits forward. Neither Roughie or Boyd can go with either of them. Thoughts?

Murphy hand passed back into the corridor on the WCE 50 and it resulted in a goal. One or two mistakes with the way we play shouldn't be enough to hang a guy. We take the game on and stream forward. If our disposal is just a tiny bit off...we get burned.

Looking back at the replay, WCE threaded through our forward press beautifully. If their disposal had been a tiny bit off, the result would have been quite different. Good with the bad boys...

Roughie can go with brown and Goldstein for sure.

Petrie looks old, Brown is in form but he lacks experience, Morris would be good on him if he gets up. Thomas Hamling and Waite should have Roberts if he returns.

Sorry to intrude, but if the players/coaches take the bolded mindset in to the game they're going to get a big shock. Of all the forwards, Drew is the one you should be putting the most work in to.

Grant (inj),
Morris (inj),
Campbell (inj),
Pearce
Jong
Smith

Ins:
Moyd,
Picken,
Minson,
Webb/Hvorat,
Roughead,
Roberts

The forward line again functioned well on the weekend with Redpath in the team as it has the last 5 weeks, I don't want to see Redpath and Boyd together but if Boyd can't provide a mobile target I'm not sure how the team will perform any better.
