Some good news on the injury front. Moyd & Picken avail. Morris Talia Grant all should be available for selection. On our website now.
He actually sounded least convincing about Talia, even though he played out the game. Hoping Morris plays....holds the show together in that D50

Morris being fit would be huge, I'm still skeptical though, 32 year old, Achilles aggravation, 6 day break.... Hopefully they were just overly cautious subbing him, at least it's not serious though. I have a feeling they may bring Roughy in to play down back in place of Talia anyway. Would prefer him in the ruck but interested to see what Bev and the MC do.

Grant is a tough one. From memory, he has never shown that he can play injured. Therefore if he plays, he will do nothing, be nervous and go into the finals in poor form or dropped. If we give him 2 weeks off to get better, he will miss 2 weeks of football, the nose will still be sore and he will go into an elimination final under a cloud. What do you do?

I'm hoping Tom Boyd comes in this week or next.We are banking on him being a key part of our future so I'd like to see him playing finals whether he is in the best 22 now or not.I don't care what form he is in leading into the finals,he plays to get some September experience.

I couldn't disagree with you more.

We should play the best 22. What sort of message does it send if you say to a bloke "sorry you've played well but we are gifting a finals game to someone less proven to give them experience". That sets the wrong sort of standard at the club. It drops the head of the better performed player, and it tells the less performed player that he doesn't need to perform to a certain level to get selected. That's not what I call an environment built on excellence (which is what we need to be).

You don't agree that Boyd deserves a game for the Bulldogs ? From what I've he's been playing well and deserves another crack

I still say Boyd has to play.He needs to get finals experience while it's there,he needs to feel the joy with the boys when we win or the sorrow with them if we lose. And besides, apart from last week he has been playing pretty well.

Boyd has, by all reports - perhaps bar the latest game - been excellent in the VFL. The only reason he isn't in the team already is team balance - Redpath and Tom clearly don't have great chemistry when they're in the same forward line. I quite like Jack, he's aggressive, he's a good kick, he will always try his hardest, and he can lay a hell of a tackle. However, he had a poor game on the weekend. He was okay in the ruck against a dominant NN - apart from the free kick - but he just didn't hold his marks, he blazed away at one point instead of passing, he failed to halve contests and bring the ball to ground, and he was consistently beaten in the air by a far smaller opponent. I'm not writing a line through Redpath, but Toyd's done his time and has earned his spot back in the side. Not because it's better for the future, but because it's better for now

Shit call. I don't think Tom has had a free against this year. He's also 200cms and draws defenders and has taken more contested marks against better opposition than Redpath who barely took one against the most undersized defence in the league. Seriously he lost several contests with noted key position defender Elliott Yeo.

Yeah let's drop him because he's had one more free against per game and didn't dominate in a 77 point loss.

We'll just ignore that Boyd averages less goals, marks, contested marks, disposals, hitouts and tackles. And that the team has averaged 119PPG since Boyd was dropped after Rd 16. Because FREE KICKS and HYPOTHETICAL SUCCESS. o_O

Your hysterical crap is the shit call.

I hope you're right, but is that just based on optimism, or do you have a good theory behind the belief?

They can swap in the "stay at home" and "lead up" roles and both can rotate through the ruck. Redpath has shown more ability to apply defensive pressure in his recent stint. Redpath has a chance to cement a spot at CHF next year if he has a good pre-season.

You would think after years of undersized forward lines our supporters would appreciate more than most the opportunity of having two key-position forwards. By being blessed with Stringer & Crameri, who can play tall without forgoing speed, we can easily accommodate two KP forwards in the team. They're not mutually exclusive.

If Redpath can hold some more marks and get up and down the ground well then I agree he has a shot at the CHF spot. At the moment, I think he can play the lead up role but not the stay at home role - fortunately, Boyd is at this point probably the opposite. If the two can both grab the ball better than they have this year, and don't take too much away from our forward pressure, I'd love to see them both work well in the same F50. Fingers crossed - at the moment, I don't think it would work though

Your jimmies are far too rustled. Talk about an overreaction, you sound far more hysterical than I ever did. Relax dude.

Might also want to have a look at the teams we've played since that increase in scoring. Nah couldn't be that we've played Melbourne, Collingwood, Port, and Essendon in that time.

He also averages the same amount of contested marks and gives away more frees against these easy kill teams. This is compared to a 19 year old who hasn't seen the inside of a gym. If you see this as doing his job then I can't help you.

Further have a look at my changes earlier in the thread and realise I never called for him to be dropped in the first place just that he isn't doing his job very well.
Now go have a lie down before you burst an aneurysm.

That's a separate question. My point was that we should not gift games - in particular finals - to players who do not deserve it. The post I responded to suggested we should play him irrespective of form. We shouldn't adopt that approach with ANY player, including Boyd.

As to your question, I think Boyd is very close to being selected on merit. He reportably has played well over the last month, so obviously he is in the mix.

See my post above. My comment wasn't Boyd specific, but just that we shouldn't be gifting games at this stage of the season or even generally.

I think you are being a bit unfair on Redpath. You seem to compare Boyd's form over a period of time compared to Redpath's of just last week in a match where we got beaten badly. Redpath has had a decent month or so. I think you could make arguments for and against bringing Boyd in. It's certainly debatable.

He has played well in the past month and will therefore be in the mix. His form wasn't my point. I just disagree with your philosophy of selecting players irrespective of form. It can be counter productive for development and not generate the right sort of culture at the club. Perhaps keeping players in the twos and demanding strong consistent form can be better development than just gifting games to unprepared players (this is not Boyd specific, just a general comment).

Sorry to intrude, but if the players/coaches take the bolded mindset in to the game they're going to get a big shock. Of all the forwards, Drew is the one you should be putting the most work in to.

Sorry I don't watch North much, but saw the game against Freo where he struggled to get his hands on the ball. It appeared from that game that brown was more dominant.
