Porplyzia was shit mate
At what stage did I say he was good?

There are certain players that are whipping boys on this forum, and then there are others like LJ who has never been and will never be AFL quality who barely get a mention.

In no way am I saying that Porps game was acceptable, but there were many others who played a full game that were absolute shit also.

I didn't think Shaw was actually that bad, he could only do so much with the quick turnovers from our mids gifting easy forward entries for Port. I want Otten back though, and quick.

LJ has also been a whipping boy on here, everyone was extremely surprised that he was preferred over JJ round 1.

After calming down I think I can make a rationale assessment.

Pods is offering nothing at the present time, but from all reports Jenkins did nothing in the SANFL. Pods one more shot against Sydney unless Tex makes a miraculous return.

Breaks my heart to say it but Porplyzia should have a long stint in the SANFL. I think he's done.

McKernan was useless but we have nobody else in form to replace him. Maybe Osborn gets a shot but I doubt it, he seems to be developing nicely in the reserves.

Laird and Lyons and M.Crouch HAVE to come in. Would also like to see Charlie Cameron and CEY debut, but whilst we need to swing the axe I think bringing all 5 in would be too much.

To be honest I struggle to get invested in these selections.

I don't think Sando or the coaching panel have any idea which players we want to invest in and which we see as backups.

Which is why Martin is in our round 1 starting 18 then a week later they change their mind and he's back to depth player.

It's the same reason why Richard Tambling still got games late last year when it was clear to all and sundry that he was destined for the chop.

It's why Matthew Jaensch is a depth player all through 2013 and then Sando has a lightbulb moment and decides to make him the main channel of our ball movement.

Lyons will probably be brought back, played out of position and then dropped a week or two later.
Porplyzia will be dropped, dominate the SANFL, come back in the following week, suck, get the green vest the next week, back to SANFL.
Matt Crouch will get a green vest then get squeezed out after struggling to pick up the pace against Sydney in the last quarter.
Random games, mostly involving a vest, will be invested into CEY, Knight, Siggins, Spina, Cameron, Battersby, mCrouch, Shaw, Martin, Lyons and at the end of the season we'll have come no closer to knowing which we want to keep, which we consider depth, which we want to trade/delist.

And every week we'll be spoonfed some random crap about 'stiff' and 'unlucky' from Droopy Dog Harper.

You sir, should post more

Outstanding

i can see whats going to happen. we're going to give porps a few more games to work his way into the game/game plan, then we'll drop him for a week, give a kid a go who clearly out performs 1/3 of the team, then porps will replace him the week after and the club will state that his 14 touches in the snaffle was just what he needed and the young kid needs to go back to the snaffle to work on his ability to work both ways, his defensive pressure blah blah blah. :)

Ive had a night to think about it, and im still none the wiser really. McKernan gets another crack, had a few credits in the bank after Geelong but needs to find consistency. Jaensch too but he cannot play down back, he must move up field.

Out-
Pods- The ingredients are there, hes chasing, presenting and working his back side off but is horribly out of touch. Go back and see whether that's permanent.
Porps- It saddens me to see him run around now and think what it could've been. Its time Porpy.
Crouch- And dont bring him back until hes had a good month of reserves footy to gets miles in his legs
LJ- I was not seduced by last week, he just does not work anywhere near hard enough.

In-
Crouch- Lets see what he can do, if not now then WTF are we doing.
JJ- work your arse off young man, crash packs and provide effort.
Cameron- not ready but give him a taste of it. Just tackle and chase, you dont need experience to do that.
Laird- skill and composure please

Could also make a case for CEY too but we probably wont play 2 rookies let alone 3

What's the go with dropping Jaensch? I thought he was in the better half of players today.

Edit: or yesterday, even.

Unbelievable how some can get so blinded by the past or just aren't able to put bias aside when judging performance.

Jaensch was again very good. Is defending really well, kicking supurbly and one of very few providing any drive.

Has been consistently good all preseason and in the 2 games so far. Probably been our best player in 2014 behind Wright. I think he is going to make it as an AFL player and I'm stoked. Love his skills.

In: Crouch, CEY, Laird, Hartigan, Jenkins, Lyons
Out: Crouch, Pods, Reilly, Shaw, Porps, Jaensch

CEY, Laird, Hartigan replace Shaw, Reilly and Jaensch in defence

Shaw's disposal is too poor
Reilly is too slow
Jaensch just isn't a defender

So you missed his errors leading to goals?

Out: McKernan, Shaw, Porps
In: JJ, Laird, anyone

No issue with smack getting dropped, but huge problem if pods remains in the side. He's close enough to mid 30's and is cooked. Cats delisted him for a reason. Smack has played little enough at this level, so there could be improvement left in him, whereas there's none left in pods. And smack assist in the ruck.

A much harder decision is calling time on truck and bringing in hartigan. Pods has done nothing for us other than accept an overly generous 2 year deal. Truck has been the heart and sole of the backline for yonks. Again, similar with thommo, who although doesn't deserve dropping on that game, if our season continues along this path will be looked at. These are generational changes that are very hard decisions to make, banishing pods to the 2's for the duration of his contract isn't. He, like vb, can continue to do their super work from behind the scenes.

So you missed his errors leading to goals?

Did you miss the rest of the team's? There was one blatantly bad kick which led to a goal, and if you want to micro-analyse any defender with a confirmation bias you could say every goal to their opposition was their fault.

Plus failing to pick up the ball in the 2nd leading to another and if I watched the replay I'm sure there would be others.

It has nothing to do with bias, the rest of our defenders are primarily natural defenders and besides in my changes I got rid of 4 of them.

On a side note Lyons retweeted someone saying he was unlucky to be dropped.

Crouch Out... Lyons In...

as for changes...Porps zero impact as sub needs to be dropped for fairness... Laird in...

M Crouch, CEY, Hartigan, Jenkins...Knocking on the door
with many spots now under the pump... individually, you cant have 3 bad ones in a row and expect to be picked.
Shaw heads that list...

as for the sub... McKernan... perform or it's back to the magoo's

For those who've watched the reserves run around, what's jack Osborn's pace and fitness like? I know he's got a good leap on him but is he able to apply any forward line pressure?

With our current talls getting nowhere near it, would it be it worth parking him in our forward 30? At 205cm and 107kg he isn't going to get out marked that often and provides a contest for betts to crumb
