I'm not sure about calls for Palmer to get a gig, from what I have seen of him at the Maggies he gets involved for 5 mins here and there, and then disappears for long periods.

I doubt he would help with the goal kicking accuracy either, plus I suspect he is still behind Arch in the pecking order, and he is unlikely to be at the club next season.

We do have multiple talls (Dixon Trengove Ryder Westhoff Clurey - Hombsch Jonas. What part of the ground concerns you?

The forward line.

Westhoff is essentially a tall midfielder who floats back when needed.

That leaves us with Dixon and Trengove up forward. Trengove isn't a forward, whist i was optimistic he would work out, it hasn't. I think everyone would like a second key forward to help Dixon and improve our structure.

I wouldn't mind if Trengove stayed up forward as a third tall/resting ruckman, a role that he may have a lot more luck in not being a natural forward.

Yeah I think we have the right number of talls personally it's just they are the wrong players. Trengove and westhoff don't kick enough goals. That said Richmond are going alright with one tall forward in their whole squad!

Perhaps it really comes down to quality of delivery and quality of the player regardless of their height.

More so Richmond have a good group of small forwards. We have R.Gray.

Other then that its 2nd rate mids S.Gray (previously Young and AhChee)

Impey - who is in and out of games and not a genuine dangerous small forward.

Neade (whilst dropped this week) is shit.

Boak who has been played across half forward is an inside mid not a Half forward.

White, who isn't a dangerous small either, more so i high half forward and link man who plays his best on big grounds where he has space to run.

1. Does Ately play purely inside? I think he is a little inside-out and can kick a goal. It will be interesting how we position players and how much game time the first year player can handle (guess that depends on position too).

2. Possibly.

3. Didn't he, in response to a question, say Eddy could possibly solve a problem that we have, not that he would?

4. Token.

5. Given we always harp on about taking no risk, have to assume it wasn't the sort of injury that if he redid it, it would cause more than a week off, so the risk was minimal in playing him.

6. I don't believe any of those players are under done. Can you elaborate?

7. Really have to see how and where they all actually line up and play this weekend before knowing the answer to this. Maybe Atley releases Wingard to take neade's spot. Maybe Atley takes Neade's spot and they want to see if he can do a better job.

I guess we have to wait and see where we play Atley. At this stage I would say he is an inside mid but may develop an outside game later on.

You are correct, Nicks said it's a round peg hole and Eddy is a round peg (paraphrasing), just found it odd to say that as the forward line coach and then not even include him in the emergencies.

With Broadbent I was more meaning he was fairly average last week and looked to struggle with his running, maybe he should not have been rushed back last week but you are right, ankle sprains tend not to be the type of injury that you can significantly worsen by playing on.

I would say Pittard is out of form, Broadbent and Hombsch are coming straight back in after injury without playing SANFL and neither were in great form prior to injury and Hartlett is touch and go with his corky.

Defensive talls are solid. Trengove is struggling and Dixon is often left one vs two. I think we could run with Eddy or Howard without losing anything.

Yes, I was keen about Palmer, but his awareness and creativity do seem lacking. Has the will but not the weapons maybe.

Pittard definitely out of form (just feels like he is leaving the club and it is affecting him).

I think the other three if recovered from their short injury lay offs would still have the fitness base and experience to warrant coming straight back in. Whilst they may not appear to be in great form, they are almost half of a back line that has done its job this season. But yes I see your point that they aren't in a nice consistent playing groove.

Port forwardline in order of how deep they actually play.

  1. Impey
  2. Trengove
  3. Robbie Gray
  4. 50m paint
  5. Ryder
  6. Dixon
Dixon hasn't been a proper deep forward since the Hawthorn game. He's moving in to Westhoff territory.

That's because Dixon normally has 2-3 hanging off him and we are obviously trying to drag him out of the deep end to open it up a bit more but we've got nothing else up there.

Nah, he was pretty reasonable early in the year playing proper FF with some CHF thrown in. Lately it feels more like he's playing that decoy KPF role like Tredrea 07-08.
