Simple way for this to be cleared up, the club comes out and outlines the process they took to find a new head of our fitness department.

Should be pretty easy question to answer shouldn't it?

It's time he came home. We failed to get him here as a player, hopefully we can succeed as a coach.

And how do you know he is any good at coaching? Why would we open our wallets for a player who is just retired and there has been no talk about him undergoing the coaching course etc?

You comparing an assistant coach who to the man in charge of our fitness program?

Poulos had a great record this year, Burton did not.

Roo was on the radio a couple of weeks back and said Burton has a big family and wanted to come home. Of course Roo didn't speak to him about the role, that's obvious not a possibility.

Where have I compared our fitness program? Again, you are seeing my name and picking your argument.

I was talking about the difference in our fans' when a former player returns.

Birdman was away 5 years, but returning is a "boys club". Mention of a name like Hart, and it's "don't want a boys club".

Kirk is away 5 years, but welcomed back into the fray. Sydney have 9/13 coaches as former players.

I find it interesting that when an ex player returns to Alberton it is hailed as coming back home to the family and talked up no end. We bring an ex player back and straight away "jobs for the boys"....... Maybe we need to rethink our marketing strategy?

Jimmy gets it.

I'm happy to discuss Burton's credentials, but don't automatically call it a "lads" appointment.

I think he said he was happy to do some consulting work with us. A disgruntled former employee doesn't offer that. Can't remember where I heard it but I've heard nothing that suggests bad blood, so where is that coming from? Where did YOU hear otherwise?

It was in the very first post, surprised that other's didn't comment on it.

http://www.afc.com.au/news/2015-09-28/burton-returns-four-to-depart

"In another change to the fitness team, Physical Performance Manager Nick Poulos will depart the Club to take up a role with Australian Sevens Rugby in the lead up to the 2016 Olympic Games. Poulos is in discussions to continue to work with the Crows in a consultancy role."

I'm not saying you have compared our fitness program. I am saying the appointment of one assistant coach is a lot different to the appointment of the fitness coach.

Mate you are freaking me out, on one hand you are critical of me for making assumptions but keep posting stuff like this. Everything you just posted is assumptions.

I have never mentioned 'boys club'
I have never mentioned Trigg
I have barely mentioned Fagan

Burton was appointed, Poulos left, Poulos was good. What the actual fcuk are you arguing with?
You seemed comfortably on that side of the fence so if I've misinterpreted your complaints, sorry.

My post wasn't so much an attack on you as it was a vent about all the turkeys flailing their wings about our return to the old days.

The only assumption I've made is of your stance, not in any of my points. I'm glad you're just disgruntled and not a disgruntled turkey.

Agree , stupid decision !

As much as I've ragged on Polous over our issues in 2013, I'd still rather have him than a boys club appointment in Burton.
Time will vindicate or not vindicate your comment. Give Birdman a go, let's see how we stack up physically next year. If we have a season were we clearly don't run out games and/or suffer multiple soft-tissue injuries, then I'll be the first to pluck Birdman's feathers.

We should be challenging for the top 4 next year. Bit of a gamble.

I thought the boys club was dead? o_O Surely Fages and Roo aren't in a boys club?
Christ I hope not. There is something quite wrong with this appointment though. Considering we now have to go and find a replacement for Nick it seems that it could have been handled better.

Do we refer to you as a pigeon?

I have been wanting this for years I wish they would hire Darren Jarman as goal kicking coach, Teague has evidently been great for the forward line structure but we need DJ to come in and teach the boys how to kick. "dreaming" :p

had to have a giggle at the promo for the "captains of the game" tv show coming soon - when Nick Riewoldt was baking one of the lads with a .."your not Darren Jarman"....

Is there any statement, or real evidence, that he wasn't leaving anyway?
Apart from: A happened, then B happened, so A caused B

Yes, but Im not sure how I divulge that here without dropping someone in it.
Journos go with: source close to the club/person/organisation

Someone close to Nick let it slip. A comment about Burtons qualifications (or in this case lack of them) for such a senior role.
I can not believe naivety of some people.

We have a qualified fitness coach who had a great year.
We have a less qualified fitness coach who had a poor year.
The less qualified and less successful fitness coach is a former player and great mates of the main man from the club
The less qualified and less successful fitness coach is promoted above the more qualified and successful fitness coach
The more qualified and successful fitness coach leaves
Nothing to see hereo_O

Some quotes from Burton directly about getting the job and what happened to Poulos.

"I've been in constant communication with the club over the last few years, the time was right for me".

When asked "nice to be head hunted isn't?", "yeah it is, its nice to be in that position".

"Any additions to your team?" "Not at this stage, Nick has accepted a role with Rugby 7s, when I first looked at the role he was going to stay but he has taken an opportunity, weather we fill that position or not we will have to work through."

So what would Nick Poulos have done next year if it is a position that may or may not be filled, why wouldn't the position be filled, do we have the quality to just promote within? It sounds like we just want to keep rolling with his plan, without him here.

I had a problem with the appointment initially but not any longer.
It is common everywhere for managers to have people working for them who have more technical expertise and qualifications than they do.
If indeed Nick was not popular amongst the players then Brett Burton is indeed a good choice. Head of player association and popular ex AFL player ... not from alien sport etc.
If indeed Nick spat the dummy just because someone he sees as less qualified would be his manager then that kind of justifies the whole process. People who are technically wonderful often make poor managers. If Nick cannot appreciate that and learn to work with people he regards as inferior then I do not think he will get very far, as that is life!
As I mentioned, Dr. Andrew Potter is probably more qualified and experienced in his field than Nick Poulos and certainly more qualified than Brett Burton. No signs of a dummy spit from him yet.
