Wazzas v Fighting Furies at Van Cortlandt Park

Heritage Round

The Furries showed no mercy on Sunday.


Round 15 saw the league mark Heritage Round in style, as we hosted the Fighting Furies at Van Cortlandt Park as our late season fixture correction continued in earnest. Speaking of which, in a peculiar quirk of fixturing, this would be our first clash in S30 with the top four Furies, despite already moving into our return legs weeks ago.

With a recent run of form, despite finals being out of the equation, we looked to restore some faith for our supporters as we sought to claim the last win required to avoid the wooden spoon and to hopefully finish off the season on a high. So when we only managed a pair of goals, for the first quarter, going on to manage just four to the Furies' ten majors at half time, it was clear that it wouldn't be happening this week. Despite a six goal to two third quarter to close within striking distance, another final quarter capitulation saw us defeated by a disappointing 37 point margin.

Our second loss on the trot sees us in 11th spot needing a win next week to avoid the spoon, which we most certainly will not. Queue a last minute Wonders victory over the Bombers away as we piss away a tight third quarter deficit to get blown away in a scoreless last quarter. Seriously, bookmark it

Well, it sucks. Missing finals always sucks. Luckily this season was in 2020 meaning we can pretend it never happened and move on.

Instead of giving you the last 4 weeks, Imma just post the full season results and show the rollercoaster everyone had in terms of form.
