Wazzas v Mount Buller Demons at Van Cortlandt Park
A wild cooney appears.
After an ordinary fortnight on the road, we returned to VCP for just the third time this season as we set ourselves to host an out of sorts Demons outfit. Having enjoyed a healthy respect both on and off the field, we went into the clash hoping to arrest our slump and catch the Dees on the hop, after a middling start to the year for Mount Buller.
However it wasn't quite to be, as we were jumped in the first quarter and spent the rest of the match playing catch up. We went into the main break six goals adrift, after the Dees silenced the crowd and won both quarters to go into the rooms at half time with the ascendancy. We would go on to close the gap, winning both quarters after the break, but we never looked like running over the top, as the Dees cruised to a 19 point win.
So as #thestreak of loses continued on Sunday, so did our slow steady slide down the ladder, with only the lowly Hawks and Wonders kindly cushioning the blow. After a decent start to the season, we have hit familiar territory, and I look forward to a late season bump that gets us just close enough to dream, only to have those said dreams shattered into pieces as we most likely finish 9th on the last day of the season again. The simmers need to review the scripts I reckon, sh*t's getting predictable and boring as fu**.

So Tonga Bob (31 touches, 8 marks) was best afield with a dominant display on the wing, as he combined well with BEEG (29 touches, 10 marks) and zackah (28 touches, 7 marks) through the guts as they fought hard to give us a spark after a lacklustre first half. Half forwards Dinsdale (15 touches, 6 marks, 3 goals) and chelseacarlton (16 touches, 9 marks, 3 goals) were damaging, the latter earning a much deserved rising star nomination after scintillating start to the season.
It was a day for the role players, as Raveneyes (11 hitouts, 20 touches, 1 goal) and leobarryustar (27 touches, 5 tackles) replaced harry000 and TheInjuryFactory respectively, giving the midfield a different mix as we looked to arrest the Dees' momentum. NaturalDisaster (4 goals) was solid up forward straightening us up and giving the crumbers plenty to feed off, with FootyGuy13 (17 touches, 1 goal) and Smoooothy (2 goals) bobbing up at times to kick important goals.
