Wazzas v Roys FFC at BJO

Not even Emperor Trump could help us from ourselves this weekend.

Well we headed to the BJO on the first leg of our quality fortnight ahead as we ventured over to tackle the Roys. In what was a chill but refreshing week on the track, we went into the match full of confidence on Sunday, given we had only lost a solitary match against the Roys since S26, and were 1-4 from our last five clashes.

It was also the beginning of a new era, as Head Coach Trump took the reigns for his first match at the helm. It was an ok start, as only inaccuracy saw us surrender a slim lead at quarter time. But the Roys kicked on from there, going on to kick 12 goals straight in the first half and taking a handy 23 point lead into the main break. A rampant third quarter effort saw us push in front by 4 points at the final change, however we were outgunned in the last, as the Roys went on to record an agonising close 4 point win.

So our second loss on the trot, and fourth from our last 5 games, and were now firmly entrenched in the bottom four, with the most points conceded this season in the competition seeing us with a lowly percentage of just 91.89%, second worst in the competition behind the lowly Gumbies. Ninth place is probably flattering at this point, but we will look to mix things up at the selection table this week.

Forwards NaturalDisaster and leobarryustar shared best afield honours, with both kicking bags of five goals in the close loss. Rookie chelseacarlton (21 touches, 2 goals) was also a handful up front, as he continued his rich vein of form. On a dirty day for the midfield, Tonga Bob (26 touches, 1 goal) lowered his colours but was still one of our best, BEEG (23 touches, 5 marks) was another beaten but saw his fair share of the qooty, while ruck harry000 (20 hitouts, 17 touches, 5 tackles) dominated the taps but was well beaten around the grounds, and the skipper TheInjuryFactory (18 touches, 11 tackles) was yet another soundly beaten and he was well held on the day.

Doctor Colossus (18 touches, 2 goals) bounced back from an awful day in his 250th to put up a decent showing, while veterans Raveneyes (18 touches) and Morganashlee (22 touches, 4 marks) exceeded expectations, and defender Freofalcon (19 touches, 7 marks) was solid in a return to form.

Bob's Red Hots for the week:

• harry000 took a mark, which is one more than Doctor Colossus can brag about;
• If they were playing for either the Roys or the Deez, craffles' zero goals five behinds would have been 5.0;
• chelseacarlton is still having a great season, while FootyGuy13 has maintained his one goal and one behind per game average;
• Speaking of FootyGuy13, shout out for this week's DT score of 69;

• There were season-best games from zackah, Raveneyes and craffles, while leobarryustar followed up a five goal performance with his season-high totals for DT (84) & disposals (27);
• 'Hungry Hungry' NaturalDisaster is yet to register a handball this season from 35 disposals, while fellow forwards iGNITER (1 from 18 disposals) and Randomizor (4 from 24 disposals) are also more focused on the goals than they are on their teammates;
• In terms of FK differentials, there's a big difference between the Wazza leadership & the rest, with the kids featuring on the wrong side of the ledger. TheInjuryFactory leads the way on +10 while harry000 & Doctor Colossus are on +8. FootyGuy13 & zackah are bringing up the rear with FK differentials of -6, followed by chelseacarlton on -5.

That's a lot of green, and a lot of orange. chelseacarlton is no longer on top but is still being better than me...i'm not salty, you are. zackah gets his first green of the season, Dinsdale, Raveneyes and Tonga Bob all get return trips to the top while harry000 gets his first red.

Wazzas v Mount Buller Demons at Van Cortlandt Park

A wild cooney appears.

After an ordinary fortnight on the road, we returned to VCP for just the third time this season as we set ourselves to host an out of sorts Demons outfit. Having enjoyed a healthy respect both on and off the field, we went into the clash hoping to arrest our slump and catch the Dees on the hop, after a middling start to the year for Mount Buller.

However it wasn't quite to be, as we were jumped in the first quarter and spent the rest of the match playing catch up. We went into the main break six goals adrift, after the Dees silenced the crowd and won both quarters to go into the rooms at half time with the ascendancy. We would go on to close the gap, winning both quarters after the break, but we never looked like running over the top, as the Dees cruised to a 19 point win.


So as #thestreak of loses continued on Sunday, so did our slow steady slide down the ladder, with only the lowly Hawks and Wonders kindly cushioning the blow. After a decent start to the season, we have hit familiar territory, and I look forward to a late season bump that gets us just close enough to dream, only to have those said dreams shattered into pieces as we most likely finish 9th on the last day of the season again. The simmers need to review the scripts I reckon, s**t's getting predictable and boring as *.

So Tonga Bob (31 touches, 8 marks) was best afield with a dominant display on the wing, as he combined well with BEEG (29 touches, 10 marks) and zackah (28 touches, 7 marks) through the guts as they fought hard to give us a spark after a lacklustre first half. Half forwards Dinsdale (15 touches, 6 marks, 3 goals) and chelseacarlton (16 touches, 9 marks, 3 goals) were damaging, the latter earning a much deserved rising star nomination after scintillating start to the season.

It was a day for the role players, as Raveneyes (11 hitouts, 20 touches, 1 goal) and leobarryustar (27 touches, 5 tackles) replaced harry000 and TheInjuryFactory respectively, giving the midfield a different mix as we looked to arrest the Dees' momentum. NaturalDisaster (4 goals) was solid up forward straightening us up and giving the crumbers plenty to feed off, with FootyGuy13 (17 touches, 1 goal) and Smoooothy (2 goals) bobbing up at times to kick important goals.
