Round 3
Wazzas
v West Coast Wonders at the ClarkeDome

giphy.gif

Me when anybody besides Clarke actually posted this week. Slept like a baby.

After what was just an awful, mind numbing week on Dragon Island, our road trip continued as we headed to the Colosseum to take on the Sweet FA's most reclusive side for a cleansing week of silence in a sensory deprivation tank to recharge our batteries.

On a serious note, the Wonders offered very little substance making it a slow, nothing kinda week in the quietest thread we've experienced since the Swamprats back in Rd 10 last season. Match wise, the Wonders were celebrating two milestones, so we all knew how it was going to go down. A tight first half kept us in the game just enough to provide a faint glimmer of hope, as a scoreless third quarter saw us lose touch with the Wonders and they would go on to win comfortably by 21 points as we registered our second loss in as many weeks.

So we slip out of the eight as this bizarro Season 30 continues to roll on unabated. The Royals incredulously lead the competition while qooty powerhouses the Dees and the Swampies sit firmly beneath the dreaded line keeping us some company at least. At least there is one constant in this league. Death, taxes and the Gumbies stinking it up stone motherless last. Lel.

Well we scored '69' so that's a win of sorts right?

Winger Tonga Bob (32 touches, 11 marks, 1 goal) was clear best on ground for us, his masterclass on the outside making him the most dominant player on the ground. He was well supported by fellow mids BEEG (27 touches, 6 marks) who has continued to enjoy a breakout season as a centreman after starring up forward since coming to the club, while Dinsdale (26 touches, 11 marks) was another to impress in his new role, the S30 wingman working in tandem with Bobby to give us plenty of run through the middle. The skipper TheInjuryFactory (22 touches, 8 tackles, 1 goal) put up his best performance of the season to date, as he relished full minutes in the engine room for the first time this season after spending significant time down back in Rounds 1 & 2 to bolster the backline with his All-SFA defensive skills.

Rookie forward chelseacarlton (20 touches, 2 goals) was lively up forward, while former skipper Frankston Rover (20 touches, 1 goal) came off the bench to add some polish to a midfield group looking to regain the ascendancy in the second half. Forwards iGNITER (2 goals) and rookie FootyGuy13 (10 touches, 8 marks, 1 goal) both bobbed up at times throughout the day with full forward NaturalDisaster (1 goal) well held.

In loving memory of our mate kdavva74 who hung up the boots after Round 1, I thought it would be a nice touch to reprise his signature segment this week in his honour, as a recognition of his time here. Bummer to see you go Dav, but look forward to your return when the timing is right. You'll always have a locker here at Coney Island, friend.

So this week, I will be running through the top 5 moments of the game and bringing them directly to the only place on this board that matters, the Warriors team thread.

Without further ado, let's look at the best moments of our somewhat expected Round 3 loss to the #lolWonders.

#5. BRILLIANT SOLO EFFORT KICKSTARTS FIGHTBACK

Showing the kind of skill that made him such a priority trade acquisition last season, NaturalDisaster looked in ominous form early on Sunday, as he relished his new found role spearheading the attack. After imposing himself on a contest midway through the second quarter, the big man's intercept mark wasn't paid, forcing him to shimmy between two Wonders witches hats and snap truly from a tight angle.

2 : 9.09 {lBP} - Wojcinski signals for his teammates to present.
2 : 9.13 {FB} - A wild kick laterally towards TheHairyGamer.
2 : 9.18 {FB} - NaturalDisaster claims the mark but its play on.
2 : 9.22 {FF} - Now NaturalDisaster has the ball. What can he do with it?.
2 : 9.26 {FF} - A snap at goal ....
2 : 9.3 {FF} - That's a telling goal from NaturalDisaster.

#4. ROOKIES COMBINE FOR A QUICK REPLY

The S30 rookies chelseacarlton and FootyGuy13 have been producing some fantastic qooty in their first few games at Coney Island, and the pair combined superbly to set up veteran zackah with some showtime qooty early in the last as we made our charge. With FG13 intercepting a wayward Wonders pass at half back in the final quarter, CC scooped up the qooty and took it through the corridor in a beatiful exhibition of turnover qooty, feeding a monster no look handball out to an open zackah who ran inside fifty and pumped it home to keep us in with a chance at the 7 minute mark.

4 : 7.16 {rHBF} - He elects to use SSwans2011 and kicks in that direction.
4 : 7.2 {rHBF} - FootyGuy13 upset the marking attempt by SSwans2011.
4 : 7.24 {rHFF} - chelseacarlton tucks the ball under his arm and scoots away.
4 : 7.28 {rHFF} - He has a bounce.
4 : 7.33 {CHF} - No-look handpass to zackah.
4 : 7.37 {CHF} - Open goal!.
4 : 7.41 {CHF} - What a goal from zackah.

#3. DINSDALEALEUNKO!!!

Late in the third quarter, and with few highlights as we would go on to remain scoreless in the premiership quarter there was one passage of play that would have delighted the fans back at Coney Island. With the former skipper Frankston Rover injected into the midfield, he ran down the Wonders no name ruckman, burying him into the ground and taking possession. He found centreman BEEG with a short chip, getting it back with quick hands and sending it long down the line where winger Dinsdale took a magnificent hanger for the mark of the day. You beauty!

3 : 24.38 {rW} - Frankston Rover drags Bonz down beautifully.
3 : 24.43 {C} - Who wants it? BEEG does. Great stuff.
3 : 24.47 {C} - Gives the ball to Frankston Rover.
3 : 24.51 {lW} - He beckons for a lead.
3 : 24.55 {lW} - Dinsdalealeunko!

#2. TONGA TORP A KNEE TREMBLER

After an arm wrestle ensued for the next 5 minutes of play, a brain fart from our mate jezza saw us take possession on the outer wing. Searching for options down the line, Tonga Bob played on from the stoppage, took two bounces as he streamed into range and pumped a perfectly struck, audacious barrel from right half forward that sailed through the sticks at post height. Hoboy!

2 : 16.47 {lW} - jezzajay takes them on.
2 : 16.51 {lW} - His kick is out on the full.
2 : 16.55 {rW} - Tonga Bob signals for his teammates to present.
2 : 16.59 {rW} - Tonga Bob takes a bounce and nearly fumbles it.
2 : 17.03 {rHFF} - Another bounce taken by Tonga Bob.
2 : 17.07 {rHFF} - Tonga Bob has latched onto a torp!.
2 : 17.12 {rHFF} - Straight through the centre.

#1. TEAM TEARS IT UP AFTER TURNOVER

Late in the second quarter we were putting together some quality qooty, and this particular passage of play was the highlight of the day. After BEEG pickpockets a sloppy SweetDicks feint, he quickly gave hands to the skipper TiF who kicked off a chain of handpasses down the field, with FR receiving and handing off to a hard running BEEG who took it back through the centre. He drew a man and fired out a precision handpass to Tonga Bob, who channeled Polly Farmer with a monster handball that found a lively FootyGuy13 on the half forward flank, who outsmarted the Wonders defender as he dished off a low bouncing handball that found Randomizor, who wheeled around onto his preferred foot and hoiked it over his shoulder from tight in the pocket for the goal of the day!!

2 : 23.25 {C} - SweetD tries to sell some candy to BEEG who says 'thank you very much'.
2 : 23.28 {C} - BEEG has possession.
2 : 23.32 {C} - A quick handpass to TheInjuryFactory.
2 : 23.37 {C} - He gets a handpass to Frankston Rover.
2 : 23.41 {C} - Handpass to space. BEEG runs onto it.
2 : 23.45 {rW} - A slick handpass goes to Tonga Bob.
2 : 23.49 {lHFF} - Huge handpass to FootyGuy13. As good as a kick.
2 : 23.53 {lFP} - An underground handpass to Randomizor.
2 : 23.57 {lFP} - Randomizor flat out refuses to lower his eyes.
2 : 24.01 {lFP} - Randomizor doesn't let us down.

Well there you have it Wazzas, the plays of the week, in case you missed it... :'(

Couple of added bits of analysis for your consideration:

Umpire's Pet

Who in our team has pictures of the umpires in compromising positions, and who doesn't?

Smoooothy's the ump's fave right now with a free kick differential of +5, followed by harry000 & Raveneyes on +3.
BEEG, FootyGuy13 & I seem to have done a Timmy Zoehrer on the umps, as we have a FK differential of -4.

Straight Shooter

And for goal kicking accuracy, who are the snipers and who are the sprayers?

Five players have 100% accuracy in front of goals. chelseacarlton is leading the way here with 5.0, I'm on 4.0, Doctor Colossus has 3.0, Frankston Rover has 2.0 and BEEG is on 1.0. On the other side of the ledger we have two on 0%, Dinsdale on 0.2 & Raveneyes on 0.1.

Our two key forwards have common-or-garden-variety accuracy - full forward NaturalDisaster has 8.7 for 53.33% and CHF Randomizor has 6.4 for 60%.

I’m ******* deadly off both feet, from any angle, under pressure, cupping my own nuts or yours, from any distance inside of 80 metres, I was actually there when BLIGHTY kicked that 80 metre goal, I was already celebrating, even after it left his boot.
I think I did the same when Fev had a shot to win against the Hawks, I was too busy shitcanning Hawks supporters to notice it drifted to miss.
Anyhoo
100%
I’ll take whatever from whomever at the moment, anyone got any lubrications?

This week on "I should learn how presentation works", the form guide looks like this...
Actually delete this time.png We now only have 3 players who have stayed above median this year, Tonga Bob, Raveneyes and myself. Checking the Stat Bazaar, Bob and I are near the top, even when including the same position next to us, the disadvantage Raveneyes having is that he didn't play HBF in Round 1.
Dinsdale gets back-to-back Honourable Mentions for his work on the right Wing, only 1 person is getting red/orange regularly and TIF finally had a good game.

Round 4
Wazzas
v Baghdad Bombers at Van Cortlandt Park

coach edgelord.png
Many fedoras were tipped.

After enduring a fortnight against the most talent bereft outfits in the competition, for the first time in several seasons we actually seemed to be looking forward to a week with the Bombers.

After an enjoyable start to the week, the neck beard element inevitably moved in to take the tone on an unwelcomed tilt, but overall we managed to enjoy a fairly laid back week with a Baghdad side that continues to mellow as others have looked set to take their mantle as the worst week in qooty. A late team wide Bombers melt after a touch of sim 'controversy' a lovely cherry on top of what was a fun week in the end.

To the match, and after lowering our colours last week, we were set to atone ourselves at home against a lowly Baghdad outfit coming off an unlikely win. A tight, high scoring first quarter got the match of to a blistering start, and a dominant second quarter saw us cruise into the main break with a monster 51 point lead. A lapse in the third saw the Bombers cut the deficit to 26 points, but a winning final quarter broke any hope of a Baghdad fightback, as we went on to win by 40 points.

The comfortable win sees us leap up the ladder into fifth spot, just shy of the top four on percentage. But at this early point of the season we're also just percentage from eighth, with an eight point game this week against the Swampies on their home deck.

Despite losing the ruck contest comprehensively, our midfield managed to make the most of our opportunities, providing a dangerous forward line with plenty of supply as we applied too much scoreboard pressure for the Bombers to handle. Second year forward iGNITER (5 goals straight) had arguably his greatest game for the club, combining strongly with full forward NaturalDisaster (4 goals) and rookie chelseacarlton (25 touches, 5 marks, 3 goals) to dominate an under seige Baghdad backline. Our mids hit the scoreboard too, as skipper TheInjuryFactory (23 touches, 9 tackles, 2 goals) and Dinsdale (29 touches, 1 goal) both pushed forward at times, while wingers BEEG (29 touches, 4 marks) and Tonga Bob (25 touches, 6 marks) continued their magnificent individual seasons.

Leaders harry000 (8 hitouts, 25 touches, 5 tackles) and Doctor Colossus (23 touches, 9 marks) were solid, while backs RelaxMax (21 touches, 8 marks) and Papa Juggs (16 touches) repelled a number of Baghdad attacks when the whips were cracking, and second year forward Randomizor (2 goals) bobbed up for a couple handy goals
