Welcome friends to the Season 31 Frankston Rover Medal.
Well, what a season it was. Season 31 was quintessentially Coney Island, as we enjoyed a four game edition of #thestreak to kick off the season, only to then talk about and proceed to lose the next couple, and then find ourselves at the top of the ladder miraculously for the majority of the back half of the season, only to be reeled in at the end. Still, we managed to comfortably cruise into a finals berth for the first time since S27 and the first time during my captaincy, as we mirrored that very season by making it to a Prelim only to be bested by the eventual Premiers.
On field, we once again had some impressive individual seasons which saw Wazzas punctuating the awards season, only this time around we performed equally well as a team, as we spent the majority of the season at the pointy end of the ladder where we belong.
Off field, it was a case of back to the future, as we recaptured the scintillating form of S29, having brought in our greatest off season recruitment haul in recent seasons, possibly ever, which not only made for an incredibly enjoyable Season 31, but holds us in fantastic stead for the coming seasons as we turned over our list and saw rejuvenated activity off the back.
We brought in some fantastic experience from oppo clubs in The Half Back, Volbeat and Test Tickle, the former proving to be every bit of the marquee recruit he promised to be, as Testy and Volbeat brought their eclectic personalities to the fore adding to our unique mix here at the club. While we also saw a number of returning Warriors come back home this season, with Lord_Flashheart, Stronzo and toxic returning after a long hiatus, as well as Dav returning after a season in the wilderness (I assume, it sounds better than ‘Adelaide’)
We also uncovered another sensational debutant in DockerDen5215, who quickly proved himself to be a strong addition to the squad, coming agonisingly close to winning the EKA, however having avoided the dreaded curse his future looks bright here at Coney Island.
We had another solid outing in the season’s awards, as we saw leaders Tonga Bob, NaturalDisaster, The Half Back and myself all rewarded with All-SFA selections, equalling our club record of four in a season, and harry000 would lead the league in goalkicking to join BigJoeD_ and Reginald Perrin as Fred Medal winners as he dominated opposition backlines in Season 31 as we rose up the ladder.
Season 32 promises to see us go from strength to strength after another strong off season of recruiting has seen us bring another six new and returning Wazzas to the club, with Moo and Mofra rejoining the fray, we’ve got a super promising rookie in Snuffaluphagus, have brought in Piggy Smalls and former Wazza ChappyUK from the Furies, and brother BEEG returns to fulfil his full forward destiny at the VCP this season after season of semi-retirement. I can't wait to pull on the jumper with you all, and please make them feel at home Wazzas as we welcome them all to the fold.
There were many other highlights this season, and we can share them tonight as we celebrate another great season here at Coney Island. So let’s take a look back at the season that was, with the night culminating in the crowning of another champion of the club, the Season 31 Frankston Rover Medallist.

The start of season 31 came with great anticipation for the Van Cortlandt faithful as a bunch of new signings, some returning favourites and a couple of rookies brought new life to a Coney Island outfit that ran out of legs by the end of last season. We kicked off the season with the ’20 Greatest Wazzas’ ceremony which FootyGuy13 ran with aplomb only to have our round one opponents, the verbacious Baghdad Bombers (and friends), gatecrash the event uninvited in a pre-emptive strike before the season began.
Sixty seven (67) different posters contributed 2158 posts to the round one match thread for what turned out to be the epitome of Shitpostapalooza between the two most engaged posting units in the SFA, the majority of which was the faux tough guy shtick that is the Babylonians’ stock in trade, along with a Friday night musical interlude and 119 different versions of the word ‘campaignery’. But we finally got to the qooty and, after trailing for much of the match, we came home with a wet sail in the final quarter to help celebrate Dinsdale ’s 50th match with a rare milestone victory.
Debutant DockerDen5215 made an outstanding start to his qooty career with a 20 disposal/7 mark/3 goal effort from a half forward flank. Marquee recruit The Half Back formed a tackle-happy bond with captain TheInjuryFactory, the duo soon to be known as The Bash Brothers. The centreline of FootyGuy13 , RelaxMax and Bob, T. provided great effort to the forwards who feasted on the service, with harry000 (4 goals), Dinsdale, Raveneyes & Den (3 goals each) the main beneficiaries.

Thanks to Dear Leader’s first fixture in charge of the league, our second match of the season saw us travel to The Stadium In The Sky to experience Metalcrusher 2: Campaignery Boogaloo, as we continued to ‘enjoy’ his company for the second week running after his Baghdadi audition the previous week. Some other Bears chimed in too I guess, but for a while there it was Crushy vs the Wazzas, as DockerDen5215 ’s PoTW expertly illustrated. Who would’ve thought that BBC stood for Beleaguered Bush Chook hey?
This fixture also had a bit of added spice in it as it was the first time former Bear captain Test Tickle faced the team he once led, with Dav playing the Elizabeth Shue to Testy’s Nicolas Cage in their retelling of the classic ‘Leaving Las Vegas’. The thread was small by round one’s standards but still a hefty 1682 posts spread among 55 posters.
Both teams had form coming into this match with wins in round one, which showed as the match turned into an old-fashioned shootout. The first quarter saw us go out to a three goal lead before the Bears brought the lead back to seven points at the fist change, the second stanza had the Las Vegans kick four goals to our two to take a six point lead to the main break. The hosts must have had some good gear at the half as they kicked away to a four goal lead, however they ran out of legs in the home straight as, for the second week running, we finished strongly thanks to an eight-goal-to-three final quarter to finish six points to the good.
Coach Trump threw former Mobbs Medallist Freofalcon into the ruck to good effect. Not only did he nullify the influence of Bear sophomore Muddiemoose but allowed Testy to go forward and kick five goals. Rookie sensation DockerDen5215 continued his hot start to his qooty career with four goals from 19 disposals, the midfield combination of Dav, TheInjuryFactory, The Half Back & Bob had an absolute field day, while down back NaturalDisaster kept the now worn out Bear full forward quiet in a performance that pointed the way towards a deserved All-SFA full back nod.

Coming off a great win against the Bears, the Wazzas headed out to Rome’s biggest stadium to take on the West Coast and to make a long story short, we won. Was a low scoring affair, but our Fred Medallist harry000 still managed to have eleven shots on goal and kick 6 of our 10 majors. Dav was the Wazzas leading possession winner with just FIFTEEN touches, that’s how miserable the day was weather wise.
The Wonders posting outfit was absolute dire and as a group we were collectively asking NaturalDisaster “why did you fu** our first month of the season?” There wasn’t much that went on from our opposition, the bloke that changed his name twice posted a ton (literally) of garbage and old Uncie Horrie spewed some verbal diarrhoea all week. For us though, Tonga Bob led from the front like he did all season with 104 posts and was well supported by DockerDen5215 (94) and Test Tickle (61).

What a shitshow. 2,351 posts in what was the worst match thread of the season by far. The Fighting Furies were doing their best impression of the titanic, except without the pre-sinking part. DockerDen5215, Tonga Bob, TheInjuryFactory, NaturalDisaster , and Dav all reached a ton with respectable outings by Test Tickle (91), Lord_Flashheart (60), RelaxMax (59), and TubbsFarquhar (58).
Let us never speak of this match thread again.
The game was much more exciting. Lots of lead changes in what was a thrilling match with the Wazzas winning to continue their fantastic early season form and also keep the #streak alive. The Half Back was electric with 13 tackles and 25 disposals. Test Tickle dominated as ruckman around the ground with 36 disposals, but was wayward in-front of goal with 5 behinds. harry000 booted 6 goals to establish himself as an early contender for the FRED medal.
The game also came with much controversy after the sim screwed up a late non-goal call to zackah #worstdecisionever #sackND
Warriors remain on top of the ladder with an untarnished record so far this season.

And so we take our first look at the Frankie leaderboard for the night, with four rounds behind us after some scintillating Qooty saw us through our first month of horrendous match threads undefeated.
In first place we have Dav who polled in 3 of 4 matches to celebrate his return with a bang on 10 votes, followed by The Half Back, FootyGuy13 and rookie star DockerDen5215 all in second place with 8 votes, while leaders TheInjuryFactory (7), Tonga Bob (6) and harry000 (5) round out the top five.

Wooshette Medal
Back in Season 26, then skipper Frankston Rover announced that the leading goalkicker each season for the Coney Island Warriors would be crowned with the Wooshette Medal.
Season 31 saw vice captain harry000 confront his goalkicking demons and shake the ‘harrydonuts’ tag once and for all (lol as if, no chance!), as he moved from midfield into the goal square, where he enjoyed one of the most dominant seasons by a spearhead at Van Cortlandt Park in club history. Harry terrorised opposition backlines across the competition on his way to becoming the league’s leading goalkicker as he barnstormed his way to a Fred Medal victory, becoming just the third Warrior in club history to win the honour.
He would go on to boot 82 majors as he lead our forward line and our charge into the finals for the first time since S27, a feat that saw him equal Stronzo with the second highest goal tally in season by a Wazza. The highlights of the season were arguably his 9 goals straight against the Dees in Rd 10 as we pantsed Mt Buller at home against our old mate, and he repeated the effort in the Prelim Final also against the Demons, where he won the shootout with Fred runner up Proper Gander to seal the Fred Medal win.
Registering a huge 82 goals from 19 games to claim his first Warriors goalkicking title, the winner of the S31 Wooshette Medal is harry000!

Coney Island Warriors 8.11 (59) lost to Gumbies FFC 14.9 (93)

Gumbies gave us what was easily the best match thread so far for season 31. 1,630 posts of pure pleasure (at least compared to the previous week). Everyone is happy when Ned Ryerson is up and about and he very much was this week. DockerDen5215, Dav and Tonga Bob all contributed a ton, with respectable outings from NaturalDisaster , Lord_Flashheart and RelaxMax.
A very enjoyable and relaxing time (Thanks Gumbies).
The game however was painful to watch. We were still in contention at half time but Gumbies kicked away in the third quarter to give us our first loss for the season. Spanna_ fought bravely with 21 disposals and a goal to boot. Test Tickle did his best to help his midfielders get first use of the ball with 11 hitouts, but it wasn't enough. We ended up losing by 34 points and said goodbye to #thestreak. Still remaining in top spot thanks to other teams losing, but this game was a sign that perhaps we weren't as good as we thought.

Gold City Royals 13.14 (92) lost to Coney Island Warriors 17.4 (106)

This week we had the SFA’s equivalent of the Gold Coast Suns vs GWS Giants (honestly don’t know which one we’d rather be), as we took on the Gold City Royals in week 6. The OP this week was one of the best we’ve ever seen in the history of the SFA and the rest of the thread did not disappoint. With 42 posters chiming in during the week, the battle of the verbal barbs went back and forth with our top contributors of the week being Tonga Bob (118) DockerDen5215 (105) and Lord_Flashheart (101) all topping triple figures.
As for the game, the mighty Wazzas won again due to our superior accuracy in front of the big sticks, booting 17 goals and just 4 behinds to beat the Royals by 14 points. There were contributors across the board, but the standouts this week were yours truly (24 touches, 8 tackles and 3 goals), toxic (27 touches, 8 marks and 4 goals), TheInjuryFactory (25 touches and a goal) and Dav (22 touches and 2 goals). With a total of 10 goal kickers, this was one of the most complete performances the Wazzas have put forth in our mighty history.

East Side Hawks 12.11 (83) lost to Coney Island Warriors 17.11 (113)

A relatively laidback thread with not much going on, or I simply can't remember because most match threads all blur together. The OP this week was definitely unique, but omgfridge still hasn't given us the results to the survey. DockerDen5215 and NaturalDisaster led the way in terms of posting with 100 and 67 posts respectively.
The game was very similar to the previous seasons thrashing of the Hawks except this time East Side was able to keep their dignity. We got out to an early lead and kept laying on goal after goal until we got tired and decided to go home early in the 4th quarter. The Hawks kicked a few late goals to bring the margin back to a 'respectable' 30 points.
Our captain TheInjuryFactory led the way in the contest with 16 tackles and 2 goals in what could only be described as "3rd placed in Mobbs worthy". The Half Back also had his tackling arms on, wrapping up the Hawks 8 times along with acquiring 27 disposals. NaturalDisaster grabbed 10 marks and held the Hawks FF to just 1 goal in an outstanding display of defence. harry000 once again showed that he was the player to beat in the FRED medal, producing 5 goals from 7 kicks.

We faced Roys in their pre-@Supersuns retirement phase, so it was definitely an active thread to say the least. DockerDen5215, Dav, Tonga Bob and NaturalDisaster all achieved triple figures as we tried our best not to let the emotions of Wosh betraying us get us down. This was also one of the first games that Mobbs made his re-appearance back in the league, so I think we can all agree that the Warriors were a big part of his comeback.
This game was a disappointment to say the least. We got out to an early lead, but qooty karma arrived after half time and Roys ran away as 21 point winners. TheInjuryFactory (10 kicks, 17 handballs, 16 tackles), Dav (20 kicks, 10 marks, 13 handballs) and Test Tickle (13 hitouts, 12 kicks, 17 handballs) all achieved the triple double (three stats in double figures). I'd say that is quite a trio. We had 6 players kick multiple goals, but other than that it was a lacklustre day.

So after 8 rounds, the Frankie leaderboard is starting to take shape, with the engine room displaying the same level of dominance over the standings as they did over the competition as we sat atop the ladder with a 6-2 record.
After recovering from a mediocre Season 30, your skipper and benevolent leader sits atop the standings on 19 votes, with marquee recent recruits The Half Back and Dav sitting in equal second on 17 votes apiece. Test Tickle was enjoying a solid start to life at Coney Island sitting in third place with 13 votes, while DockerDen5215's hot start to the season continued, sitting equal fifth with Fred leader harry000 on 9 votes each.

Congratulations RelaxMax
For the sixth season in a row, we are again inducting one of our ranks to life membership of the club.
Joining such club legends as Wooshette, Frankston Rover and zackah, the past few seasons have seen many great Warriors achieve life membership, and this season sees us anoint yet another club champion into the exclusive club.
RelaxMax played her 150th game for the club in Round 15 against the Wonders and we romped home to a mammoth 68 point victory to celebrate the occasion in style. RelaxMax becomes just the 10th inductee to Coney Island Warriors life membership and is the 3rd dual Frankston Rover Medallist to earn the honour.
Congratulations to our newly minted life member, enjoy your year round pass to the whore tree and your well worn butt groove in the couch in the player's lounge.

Introducing... The zackah
Speaking of the GOAT Wazza, it is my great pleasure to announce that Season 32 will see the awarding of a brand new club award here at Coney Island...
The zackah.
The zackah will be commissioned as our official Best Clubman Award, and will be awarded to the player who most embodies what it is to be a Wazza, the player who makes the greatest contribution to the club and to the changerooms and will become a regular fixture of our end of season celebrations.
Having firmly established himself as the greatest Warrior of all time, given his longevity and commitment to the club since joining Coney Island, our games record holder and all time Frankston Rover Medal vote getter is as heart and soul Wazza as they come, and has earned this recognition after his considerable contribution to the club and it's culture.
We will be working together in the LG with the great man to define the criteria and to determine the best route to make our selection as a club each season.

I’m gonna steal the stage from TheInjuryFactory for a second here and give out an award that’s very close to my heart.
The jezzajay Pelican of the Year award can trace its lineage back to a S29 match thread in which the eponymous Wonders poster provided an endless stream of entertainment throughout the week. I’ve jokenly awarded the Pelican of the Week award a couple of times since but now TiF has let me bring it to the big stage.
It was a pretty easy choice this season.
The jezzajay Pelican of the Year winner is a poster very dear to our hearts at the Coney Island Warriors. We came up against him on multiple occasions this season and to his credit he never backed down despite some pretty shoddy support from his teammates. We all know him as the Million Degree Man, the Tully Tyrant, or of course good old grumbleguts.
Congratulations on the win and we hope to see you next season.

Coney Island Warriors 15.5 (95) defeated Sin City Swamprats 9.9 (63)

Another week, another Warriors win, name a more iconic duo, I’ll wait. The VCP faithful were given a show in the wet, as the Wazzas booted 15 goals to down the Swamprats by 32 points. The scoring was done up front by a two-headed moster with harry000 (3 goals 2) and zackah (5 goals straight) combining for 10 shots on goal. Lord_Flashheart (29 touches, 5 marks and a goal), Halfie (29 touches, 5 tackles and 2 goals) and Tonga Bob (31 touches and 5 marks) all lead the way in the middle of the ground, delivering absolute champagne service to the forwards from the beginning.
The posting battle was pretty comprehensively won by the Wazzas too, with DockerDen5215 (104), Tonga Bob (73) and NaturalDisaster (49) leading the way for the Orange and Charcoal.

This week we had the SFA’s equivalent of the Gold Coast Suns vs GWS Giants (honestly don’t know which one we’d rather be), as we took on the Gold City Royals in week 6. The OP this week was one of the best we’ve ever seen in the history of the SFA and the rest of the thread did not disappoint. With 42 posters chiming in during the week, the battle of the verbal barbs went back and forth with our top contributors of the week being Tonga Bob (118) DockerDen5215 (105) and Lord_Flashheart (101) all topping triple figures.
As for the game, the mighty Wazzas won again due to our superior accuracy in front of the big sticks, booting 17 goals and just 4 behinds to beat the Royals by 14 points. There were contributors across the board, but the standouts this week were yours truly (24 touches, 8 tackles and 3 goals), toxic (27 touches, 8 marks and 4 goals), TheInjuryFactory (25 touches and a goal) and Dav (22 touches and 2 goals). With a total of 10 goal kickers, this was one of the most complete performances the Wazzas have put forth in our mighty history.

We travelled to the Snow Dome knowing that the Demons are always one of the hardest match-ups in recent memory.
It was great to see pantskyle again, and he loved receiving the traditional leaver's golden shower just as much as we loved giving it! And who could forget the loveable Tarkyn_24 with his posts and his replies and stuff. And Headless! He was also there. Just a wonderful match thread all round.
Any nerves we had from the match-up were dashed pretty quickly, with harry000 swiftly exceeding his post count for the week as his 3 goals fired us to 8 in the first term. Another 6 goals in the second term and even we couldn't choke hard enough to lose, despite losing the third and fourth quarters.
Harry Numbers had an absolutely massive game, bagging 9 majors from 10 disposals, with Stronzo the only other Wazzas to bag multiple goals. We got plenty of the ball though, lead by Tonga Bob's 28 disposals and 12 marks, and ably assisted by the likes of Dav (27 disposals, 4 marks), The Half Back (23 disposals, 6 tackles), Lord_Flashheart (27 disposals, 1 goal) and Test Tickle (20 disposals, 8 marks).
In conclusion, I think I would make a great fit at the McDonald's Palmerston team and I would be willing to start whenever is suitable. I am very desperate.
