Yeah look, it was probably one of the better Dragons match thread I’ve been part of. It was funny watching Bonz attempt to be a poor mans Tigerturbulance and.. uhm, yeah can’t really remember anything else. serial_thrilla might have made a post? Oh and we tried to get a bite from Chief with not much success.

Our first quarter was mediocre, but we remained in the hunt due to poor goal kicking on the Dragons behalf. We managed to get a lead in the second quarter, which we held on to until 3QT where we were up by 2 goals. The final quarter was garbage, we ran out of legs and allowed the Dragons to pile on 8 goals, only managing 3 of our own.

Test Tickle won the ruck battle with 23 hit outs, but got pants around the ground by his opponent. Dav, TheInjuryFactory, The Half Back, and Tonga Bob were fantastic in the middle whilst Dinsdale booted 5 goals from CHF. We also had 3 goal hauls from Fred Medalist harry000 and rookie DockerDen5215.

Coney Island Warriors 16.11 (107) lost to Gold City Royals 18.7 (115)

Round 12 was the start of the return match-ups and the return of the man with a self-described small PhD, grumbleguts and the Gold City Royals. Clearly tired from doing interviews, not much else happened in the thread. Well unless you're NaturalDisaster, then it was another verbal stoush with Blacky. After that resulted in another death for the Royals, the thread went its quiet way until the game...

The game stayed close at the start with the Warriors being 2 goals up twice during the first quarter, but the Royals would hit the start by the first change. The Warriors were again in front halfway through the second but after 3 BRAB goals before the main break meant the Royals were threatening to get away. harry000 countered with 3 goals in the third to whittle the margin down to a point late in the third and by 7 at the last change but with too many wayward shots compared to the Royals saw Gold City come out the victors 8 points.

The Half Back's 7 tackles and 4 frees saw him in a favourable view with the umps while harry000's 5 goals 1 kept the Warriors within distance of a win. ND even left defence to give Coney Island that chance for the lead when it matters. But a honourable loss is still a loss and we were left to rely on other results to keep our 1 game lead atop the ladder.

Introducing... The zackah

Speaking of the GOAT Wazza, it is my great pleasure to announce that Season 32 will see the awarding of a brand new club award here at Coney Island...

The zackah.

The zackah will be commissioned as our official Best Clubman Award, and will be awarded to the player who most embodies what it is to be a Wazza, the player who makes the greatest contribution to the club and to the changerooms and will become a regular fixture of our end of season celebrations.

Having firmly established himself as the greatest Warrior of all time, given his longevity and commitment to the club since joining Coney Island, our games record holder and all time Frankston Rover Medal vote getter is as heart and soul Wazza as they come, and has earned this recognition after his considerable contribution to the club and it's culture.

We will be working together in the LG with the great man to define the criteria and to determine the best route to make our selection as a club each season.

Ladies and Gentlemen, please charge your glasses to the GOAT Wazza himself...

Pwned Trophy

Each season, we award the Pwned Trophy to the player who makes the opposition melt the hardest and the rest of us laugh our arses off.

It is selected by the preceding season's winner, seeing it as one of the club's highest honours, passed down through the generations of Wazzas in recognition of their services to lulz.

As a club renowned for our uncompromising approach off the field, even in the lean years there’s still plenty of competition for the highly coveted Pwned Trophy. This season’s Trophy could have gone to several posters, with a number of Warriors not only deserving of recognition for the lols at the expense of the opposition, but also the melts and the dummy spits that often followed. Raveneyes enjoyed a fantastic evening of form straight off the bat in Rd 1 against the Bombers, returnee toxic made a hot early start to the season, and FootyGuy13 even inadvertently managed to work the Furies up into a froth late in the season. Long term perennial contenders like Freofalcon and zackah had some great moments throughout the season, while more recent additions in NaturalDisaster, Dav and The Half Back all elicited their fair share of melts from the competition.

However, with a return season punctuated by his effortless takedown of the acclaimed JezzaJay Pelican of the Year grumblebum, and his 45 PHDs. There’s no way we could look beyond this particular poster's contributions in his field, an effort that even saw him manage a detour all the way out to Tully in person to deliver a poignant rebuke.

The winner of the Season 31 PWND trophy is Lord_Flashheart !!

Having been the first recipient of the award all the way back in S18, Flashy enjoyed a magnificent return to the fold here at Coney Island and delivered plenty of joy for the rest of us along the way. He joins great company with fellow Bay pedigree posters like RelaxMax, Packedlunch, zackah and harry000 who have all previously taken out the award. Flashy becomes just the 4th Wazza to win the honour twice.

Rd 12 Leaderboard

We're getting to the serious end of the season now, as by Round 12 we have started to see two packs break away from the rest. After a rich and magnificent mid season vein of form, S31 marquee recruit The Half Back has risen to the top of the standings with 27 votes, leading a breakaway of three, with myself and Dav sitting in equal second a game or so behind on 23 votes.

After some daylight, Tonga Bob headlines the chasing pack on 17 votes, ahead of vice captain harry000 on 16 and Test Tickle and Lord_Flashheart on 15 apiece.

Round 13
Coney Island Warriors 15.10 (100) lost to Las Vegas Bears 15.13 (103)

Round 13 saw the Warriors play Las Vegas again, and if you thought the Royals was a slow week; the Bears were taking the tale of the Tortoise and the Hare a bit too literal. Maybe it was because their main poster decided to go back home and have a getaway along the way. Either way, outside the gif battle that opened the thread, not much happened (not that you were allowed to point such things out).

The qooty match that ensued at the end of the week stayed close throughout its entirety. While the Bears lead at every change, each quarter saw the Warriors have the lead at some stage. The first quarter saw 5 Warriors score 6 behinds in a row while the rest of the game was the opposite in accuracy. Unfortunately for every challenge Coney Island had, Las Vegas had an answer. Despite being 10 points up with 3:10 on the clock, the outgoing Bear in Metalcrusher kicked the Bears in front with 81 seconds to spare and got the win.

Tonga Bob dominated the disposals with 22 kicks, 16 handballs and 9 marks, Spanna_ had an appearance with 9 tackles and 7 Frees, The Half Back put up 7 tackles, 6 Frees and 19 kicks, Dav racked up 15 kicks, 20 handballs and 7 marks while the forward line duo in harry000 (4.1) and zackah (5.0) kept the Warriors in the hunt for the duration of the game. The loss relegated the Warriors to second place and suddenly, we were fighting the Gumbies for the minor premiership.

Fighting Furies 13.6 (84) lost to Coney Island Warriors 14.7 (91)

After a controversial thread during our Round 4 match, we were hoping for a more chilled R14 match. However, a few early leaked PMs only exacerbated the tensions between these two clubs. The Furies got their faux moral outrage game on and spent the week accusing us of having a broken moral compass, being in favour of leaking PMs. I am pretty sure they blamed us for The Holocaust, the Black Plague and Coronavirus as well..

Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, there was also a game of qooty. Coming up against the Wooden Spooners, you would think it would be a comfortable win, right? It was not, we were down on form going into this clash and the Furies threw everything at us and we spent the majority of the game trailing behind the leagues battlers. We went into 3 QT two goals down and looking down the barrel of another loss. A strong spray from The Donald kicked us into gear and a 5 goal final term got us over the line by 7 points.

Skipper TheInjuryFactory carried us in the midfield supported by solid performances by Stronzo, The Half Back and Dinsdale who was moved to the Ruck. Fred medalist harry000 booted 5 goals from the forward line.

Coney Island Warriors 20.14 (134) defeated West Coast Wonders 11.6 (72)

In Round 15, we played the Wonders at home. When I say played the Wonders, it was actually mostly The Warriors vs Mozzie19 feat a cameo from Grand Uncle Horace. Quite uneventful really.

Now, as a general rule, qooty does not correlate with posting. This match was a different story, not only did the Wonders not show up to the match thread, but they also did not even show up to the game itself. We kept them scoreless during the first term whilst piling on 4 goals 4. We lost the second quarter conceding 6 goals and only kicking a further 4, but remained well in front at the half time break. We kicked 10 goals in the second half, smashing the woeful Wonders by a whopping 52 points.

Our wingmen, rookie DockerDen5215 (28 disposals, 6 marks and a goal) and Tonga Bob (25 disposals and 4 marks) dominated the Wonders around the ground. Ruckwoman RelaxMax had a solid outing with 12 hitouts, 22 disposals and a goal and forwards harry000 and Dinsdale booted 6 goals between them.

Desperately looking to hit some form as the finals loom large, what better stage to stake our claim than a penultimate round Match of the Round clash against the up and about second placed Gumbies led by the bashful Barrybran, as we sought revenge for an early season loss at their hands at the VCP. The stakes couldn't be higher, with the winner clinching first place and most likely the minor premiership. Ripe for us to * it up you see, and we certainly didn't fail to deliver.

With no milestones to kook and coming off a thumping victory against the Wonders, we liked our chances heading into Sunday with our tails up. But the Gumbies got the jump on us in the first, opening up a handy 24 point lead at the first change, as we struggled to adjust in the downpour as the heavens opened up the claymation nation steadied first and settled into the conditions best. A seven goal blitz in the second quarter saw us peg back the lead at the main break, but our wayward kicking in front of goal in the second half saw us miss crucial chances, ultimately going down by 13 points in a thriller.

With NaturalDisaster getting absolutely ripped to pieces by a journeyman hack, it was left to the rest of our defence to stem the flow, and both Test Tickle and Freofalcon stood up, collecting 11 possessions apiece and combining for 9 marks as they fought manfully to weather the Gumbies onslaught. Midfield wise you can raffle it between yours truly (19 touches, 2 goals) and the heir apparent Tonga Bob (20 touches, 2 goals), with Bobby's 5 marks probably just giving him the edge, as both of us battled admirably against an on fire Gumbies on ball brigade in torrid conditions. Old mate harrydonuts was well held, seeing FootyGuy13 proving to be our most lively up front, his 16 touches and 2 goals firmly putting him among our best in a tough contest away from home.

Rd 16 Leaderboard

As we near the completion of the home and away season with a finals series yet to come, the Frankie is still wide open and well and truly up for grabs, with a handful of Wazzas still in the mix to win it.

The Half Back still leads the way atop the leaderboard on 35 votes, with myself within striking distance back in second place on 32 votes, while S30 winner Tonga Bob sits slightly further back in third on 30 votes but is coming home with a wet sail, and Dav is still in the hunt for the Frankston Rover double sitting in fourth spot on 27 votes. Even the fifth placed harry000 is still a mathematical chance with 21 votes to his name, but as we know we didn't go as deep as we would have liked in the finals, with only three games left to poll.

Having surrendered top spot in the penultimate round, all that was left for us was to vanquish a middle of the road Bombers side battling to even qualify for a place in the finals, a win that would see us in turn secure second spot and an all important home Qualifying Final. But coming in off some ordinary form and with a milestone on our hands, it's fair to say expectations were low.

I'm told it was a different week with the boorish Baghdad brigade. Not good, not bad. Just different. A particular highlight was the song contest without context and with no competition, which after a hard week of slandering the admin, I guess you just want to rock out to some obscure tunes with some randos on a football website.

Match wise, we never made it out of second gear. While our first half was sluggish, our third quarter was a total capitulation, as we coughed up ten goals to our five as the Bombers increased an already sizeable 44 point half time lead out to a whopping 84 points late in the quarter, before some serious junk time in the last saw us restore some credibility, the damage was well and truly done. The end result being a 68 point hiding in the final round to head into the finals in about as ordinary fashion as one could hope for.

Hard to find a defender who could hold his head high after that massacre, but we can definitely point out the clever one who got the fu** out of there before it got too hot. NaturalDisaster hung poor old Stronzo out to dry, trading places with the Warriors vet to slot himself safely up front, where he managed to put on a bit of a clinic, his 20 touches and 3 goals seeing him best the out of place The Jesus.

Can you go past 40 touches from a rookie? Nah, you can't. DockerDen5215 put up one of the all time classic performances by a Warrior, his 40 possession, 4 mark effort setting a very high watermark indeed for future Coney Island Warriors rookies to reach, as the rookie sensation was rushed to Coney Island Medical Centre with a severe case of leather overdose. It's a thing. Look it up.

Big day for our heroic spearhead harry000 donuts, as his bag of six goals proved more than enough to secure the highly coveted Fred Medal in a proud moment for the club amongst the wreckage.

Finals Week 1 - Qualifying Final

So our long awaited return to the finals saw us make our way to Gold City to take on the reigning premiers on their home deck as we looked to earn our way through to a home preliminary final.

We started off the match a step off the pace, in ominous signs early, as only the Royals' wayward kicking kept us in the contest, as they would take a 17 point margin into the main break. We managed to edge our way in front in the premiership quarter as we pulled within two straight kicks, and a rampant final quarter saw us kick six majors to their two, as we managed to roll over the top of them in a famous victory for the club as we sealed a home prelim final, running away 12 point victors in the end.

Test Tickle was the pick of the defenders, his effort to hold the S30 All-SFA forward CakeEater to donuts was quite poetic and worthy enough, but he also racked up 15 possessions and 8 marks to repel Royals entries time after time. In a tightly fought contest, space was at a premium and as such it was the engine room that got to work in grinding our way on top to wrestle the ascendancy off the reigning premiers, with RelaxMax, the skipper and aspiring Mobbs Medallist The Half Back impressing the most. All racking up 20 plus touches and hitting the scoreboard to stamp their authority on the contest.

With the recently crowned Fred Medallist harry000 misfiring, S31 recruit Spanna_ bobbed up as the most dangerous forward on the ground in the second half after coming off the bench, his 3 goals instrumental to our comeback and eventual come from behind win.

We travelled to the Snow Dome knowing that the Demons are always one of the hardest match-ups in recent memory.

It was great to see pantskyle again, and he loved receiving the traditional leaver's golden shower just as much as we loved giving it! And who could forget the loveable Tarkyn_24 with his posts and his replies and stuff. And Headless! He was also there. Just a wonderful match thread all round.

Any nerves we had from the match-up were dashed pretty quickly, with harry000 swiftly exceeding his post count for the week as his 3 goals fired us to 8 in the first term. Another 6 goals in the second term and even we couldn't choke hard enough to lose, despite losing the third and fourth quarters.

Harry Numbers had an absolutely massive game, bagging 9 majors from 10 disposals, with Stronzo the only other Wazzas to bag multiple goals. We got plenty of the ball though, lead by Tonga Bob's 28 disposals and 12 marks, and ably assisted by the likes of Dav (27 disposals, 4 marks), The Half Back (23 disposals, 6 tackles), Lord_Flashheart (27 disposals, 1 goal) and Test Tickle (20 disposals, 8 marks).

In conclusion, I think I would make a great fit at the McDonald's Palmerston team and I would be willing to start whenever is suitable. I am very desperate.

Finals Week 3 - Preliminary Final

Just one step away from our first Grand Final appearance since our solitary trip to the big dance in S19, we welcomed manangatang, our old mate pantskyle and their formidable Demons outfit to Van Cortlandt Park. With a home ground advantage and a week off to freshen up, we went into the clash full of confidence, with a number of our biggest stars in rare form. Once again perfectly poised for us to Wazza the s**t out of it and kook it up.

Always an enjoyable week off the field, when it came to the on field match up, we came out firing to start the match as we kicked five goals in the first to their three, opening up a handy buffer with a packed out VCP crowd brought to their feet at quarter time. We would go on to repeat the dose in the second, maintaining a 21 point lead at the main break. The Dees would come out rejuvenated in the third quarter, but despite losing the quarter, we still hung on to a 15 point lead heading into the final stanza. But a woeful last quarter saw the Dees run over the top of us, as they would go on to score five last quarter goals to our solitary major, as we eventually went down by 12 points in a bitter end to a magnificent season.

And so our season came to an untimely finish, as the Dees would go on to win the S31 premiership, beating the Bombers and claiming the flag. Thank *.

TubbsFarquhar was the pick of the defenders, keeping his direct opponent goalless while picking up 8 touches and 4 marks in a lockdown role. In a dour low possession contest, Tonga Bob racked up the most touches from either side, his run and carry on the wings a feature of our best passages of qooty on the day. The Fred Medallist harry000 was in frightening form up front, the spearhead winning a shootout against his opposite number Proper Gander and ragdolling two opponents on his way to a bag of seven majors.

S31 Frankston Rover Medal

Congratulations The Half Back !!

Congratulations Halfy, what a way to make an entrance.

Having crossed from the Furies at the commencement of Season 31, Halfy quickly joined the fold here at the club and proved himself to be one of the most influential inside midfielders in the competition, culminating in a well deserved All-SFA selection as well as a top five finish in the Mobbs. Finishing on 43 votes, Halfy produced one of the most consistent seasons by a Frankston Rover Medal winner in recent memory, as he seamlessly slid into a star studded engine room at the club and together proceeded to drive the club into a top four finish and our first finals appearance since S27.

Despite having only joined the club this season, he has now etched his name into Warriors history, as he joins an illustrious club of Frankston Rover Medal winners including league legends like medal namesake Frankston Rover and pantskyle, and becomes just the 12th Frankston Rover Medal winner in club history.

Polling in 14 of 19 matches, Halfy polled two best on ground performances in Rds 9 & 12, and polled in seven of our last eight games to lead our charge into a long awaited finals campaign. He enjoyed a purple patch of form in the midway point of the season, as he polled in four matches straight between Rds 6 & 9 as we looked to consolidate our position atop the leader after a barnstorming early early start to the season.

Having finished runner up in the Mobbs, I myself would go on to finish in second place with 37 votes, with last season’s winner Tonga Bob closely behind in 3rd on 35 votes in another magnificent season on the wing, with returning Wazza Dav finishing a deserving 4th place on 32 votes after a big season in the centre as part of our elite midfield group. Fred Medallist harry000 would round out the top five with his 27 votes a recognition of a fantastic season up front.

Congratulations to all who polled during what was a magnificent season here at Coney Island. We had nine new players poll this season from last season of the 18 who managed a vote, with three of the top five alone differing from last season's count, a testament to our depth and the strength of the list.

Five of the top 10 joined the club in Season 31, while the returning trio of Lord_Flashheart, toxic and Stronzo have featured together on the Frankie leaderboard for the first time in Season 31.

The GOAT has once again added to his all time tally, while the winner The Half Back has ammassed quite possibly the greatest vote tally to win a Frankston Rover Medal in club history with his 43 votes* (I await FootyGuy13 to fact check me here)

Finals Week 1 - Qualifying Final
Gold City Royals 13.13 (91) lost to Coney Island Warriors 15.13 (103)

So our long awaited return to the finals saw us make our way to Gold City to take on the reigning premiers on their home deck as we looked to earn our way through to a home preliminary final.

We started off the match a step off the pace, in ominous signs early, as only the Royals' wayward kicking kept us in the contest, as they would take a 17 point margin into the main break. We managed to edge our way in front in the premiership quarter as we pulled within two straight kicks, and a rampant final quarter saw us kick six majors to their two, as we managed to roll over the top of them in a famous victory for the club as we sealed a home prelim final, running away 12 point victors in the end.

Test Tickle was the pick of the defenders, his effort to hold the S30 All-SFA forward CakeEater to donuts was quite poetic and worthy enough, but he also racked up 15 possessions and 8 marks to repel Royals entries time after time. In a tightly fought contest, space was at a premium and as such it was the engine room that got to work in grinding our way on top to wrestle the ascendancy off the reigning premiers, with RelaxMax, the skipper and aspiring Mobbs Medallist The Half Back impressing the most. All racking up 20 plus touches and hitting the scoreboard to stamp their authority on the contest.

With the recently crowned Fred Medallist harry000 misfiring, S31 recruit Spanna_ bobbed up as the most dangerous forward on the ground in the second half after coming off the bench, his 3 goals instrumental to our comeback and eventual come from behind win.

A relatively laidback thread with not much going on, or I simply can't remember because most match threads all blur together. The OP this week was definitely unique, but omgfridge still hasn't given us the results to the survey. DockerDen5215 and NaturalDisaster led the way in terms of posting with 100 and 67 posts respectively.

The game was very similar to the previous seasons thrashing of the Hawks except this time East Side was able to keep their dignity. We got out to an early lead and kept laying on goal after goal until we got tired and decided to go home early in the 4th quarter. The Hawks kicked a few late goals to bring the margin back to a 'respectable' 30 points.

Our captain TheInjuryFactory led the way in the contest with 16 tackles and 2 goals in what could only be described as "3rd placed in Mobbs worthy". The Half Back also had his tackling arms on, wrapping up the Hawks 8 times along with acquiring 27 disposals. NaturalDisaster grabbed 10 marks and held the Hawks FF to just 1 goal in an outstanding display of defence. harry000 once again showed that he was the player to beat in the FRED medal, producing 5 goals from 7 kicks.
