Disappointing Melbourne

I can understand where Melb are coming from - seasoned bodies against tiring youngsters - it's a recipe for injury.

Unlike a lot of first year players - these two have been right at the coalface of the midfield - so it's fair enough.

The only thing that surprises me is to rest them in the same game - i would have thought one last week, one this week might be more appropriate. Would be great to Scully up against Bartel etc

Great post. No problem with the lads being rested. But in the same game?

In saying that, nobody on this site knows how they pulled up after Darwin. I trust our club medical staff here.

Least be honest here boys,

Couple of obvious things.

1. They have conceded, they know they're no match.
2. They are scared, they won't play their kids because the big mean Geelong boys will belt them.

Soft! Melbourne are disgraceful for making this decision. The 2 kids would have learned more from playing against the best than anything Scott West could instruct them at training. Poor!!

So because some dudes behind a computer screen think they should play, but the coaching and medical staff think they shouldn't, then they should play?

Yep, that makes perfect sense.

Arrogant twat.

I will enjoy seeing your aging list decline.

"Resting" Trengove and Scully for this week against the Cats. Shocking decision really as it would have been such a great learning curve for them.

Soft really

Your cluless

You havent taken many things into account and you also didn't add the 3rd rested player

Can't spell McKenzie or isnt he fashionable

How are Brock and Johnsom going btw

Talk about being rested :p

At least Jack Watts is playing.

Of all our young players, I think Wattsy will find tomorrow the toughest going. Wet day, tight ground, H.Taylor a quality opponent. I wonder why he isn't being rested?

Leads me to believe that Jack T and Tom S must really be stiff and sore and ready for a break. Fancy that.

we are playing geelong AFTER DARWIN, i am personally surprised that watts is playing, probably aloud because not the first year. God some people are bright

Yuup, we're so scared that we're gonna have our number 11 pick Jordan Gysberts play his first match. Definitely scared

If you guys were playing what would be declared by the club as a likely 'winnable' game, I guarantee you that both players would be out there. This is why it is a soft/pathetic move. The rest the kids against the best and put them in cotton wool. Playing against Geelong would have taught the players a lot. There is no denying that.

I've really enjoyed watching Melbourne come back from the depths this year, but this move has lost them a lot of respect for mine. I'd be very disappointed if I supported this club.

So Trengove plays a sensational game in Darwin, runs his ass off to the extent where he can't remember half the game, and keyboard heroes on here label it soft and pathetic.
My God, can supporters' get any stupider?

So now what? Trengove expects that he is allowed a rest after his next hard game?? It's soft mate... and you can't deny that he and Scully would definitely be playing if you thought a win was likely today.

That is the deal breaker here. And you're calling me stupid? If Melbourne played Richmond today, got beaten without Scully and Trengove playing, even though both are fit.. all you Melbourne fans would be calling for the coaches head!!

This move is not your club moving forward. And it's a poor example to make for young players and the club in general.

No point arguing with you.

We are talking about young, 18 year old boys still growing into their bodies. Both of them playing footy against men for the first time. When did you assess their recovery from Darwin? You have no idea what physical shape they are in.

No decision our coaching staff has made in the last 3 years has been soft. They have copped in the neck from every angle. But to their credit, their eyes have always been firmly on the future. :thumbsu:

Doesn't change the fact that both would be playing against a weak opposition this week if the club considered it a winnable game, you know it. You yourself would expect them to play, don't tell me you wouldn't.

I've seen many young, first year players play full seasons. I'll happily get a list of them. This is not common. And to do it against Geelong in these circumstances, well the variables all add up to one conclusion... SOFT!

Yes please. I'd love to see a list of 18 year old first year on-ballers who have played every game in their season, played significant game time each week, and had significant impact on contests averaging over 20 possessions. Show me that they haven't had a rest during that 22 game season.

Good luck with that.

LOL, as if anyone at the MFC care if you've lost respect for the MCG.
Get over yourself, LOL

That's fine, your reaction says otherwise though.

None of you are facing the question I put to you regarding the timing of the so called 'resting' of the 2 players. It's all about the opposition. They aren't giving this game their all.. if so, why not rest the 2 players on separate weeks instead of both in the same week, which just happens to be against the best side in the league? They would be a better chance for winning surely??

Bottom line. Melbourne are resting these 2 against a game they don't think they can win, when compared to other opposition.. that is soft. This is not a good culture for a club to promote to its fans and the wider football community.

Head. Brick wall. Darwin last week? Hello, McFly.

Where's your list?
