Void has the same effect, his stun with warlock to follow up. There are so many great combos but playing random public games just doesn't let you try them out unfortunately.

When they do come off even unintentionally it's awesome though.
We were steamrolling a team, I was Clockwerk and I decided to hookshot in on 3 heroes and cogs them. The Crystal Maiden on our team then hit her ultimate and it was a nice triple kill.

There's always something wrong with random games. If you don't get 5 carries you usually get a bad laning choice with the supports deciding to go in a lane together. Noone buying courier. Someone disconnecting. Someone cracking the shits.

Can we get a list of people on here and their steam names? It's hard to keep track of who's from bigfooty and not. Most of the people who add me I assume are after some items.

Just played this for the first time in forever, such a mess. I dunno if it was just that one game but everyone just chooses random characters and heads into a random Lane, no communication all game. I didn't know wtf was going on(only played a handful of games, but am very familiar with MOBAS) then everyone leaves and it's a 3v3.

The HUD is so ****ing big, I kept clicking on it when I was trying to run away.

That is so annoying! Although I seem to do it less now than at the start. ... Also, I've disabled the windows key on my keyboard, as it's right next to the Alt. Kept taking me out of game when trying to ping.

Oh god, my wish has come true :D Can't wait to see what his meta will be in competitive Dota. The trolls are going to have a field day by using sunder on their own teammates. However, I wonder if he would make a good roamer once there is a solid strategy for him. He'll be absolutely ideal to initiate a gang (Provided he is invisible), or is able to catch the enemy off-guard by using smoke. Mid-lane players/roamers are going to love him for the potential easy kills

I always used to click on the minimap when trying to run away towards Radiant's base causing me to run towards the people trying to kill me. There is a console command to enforce a delay on the minimap which has helped immensely. It means clicking on the minimap to do stuff like TPing or hitting global things is a tad harder but it was always pretty inaccurate anyway.

dota_minimap_misclick_time = the time being the minimum time after the mouse enters the minimap before a move is accepted. I put it on 2 seconds I think which might be a bit extreme but I haven't noticed it hindering me much.

Terrordude's ulti looks bloody weird. Will be interesting to see how it's used. You can do tricky stuff like farm for a dagon in jungle, get it when you're low, ult swap your HP and get an auto kill with dagon. However that's risky stuff. It will probably just be used to survive longer in a team fight. I can see it being used to clean up in team fights and perhaps more so in ganks where for some reason a full HP hero is left. TB looks like a carry who won't be burning a lot of mana in a team fight (he would use it in preparing for the team fight and then not that much) so to be able to clean up a remaining hero without relying on a support stunning is pretty cool. Then you just go on your merry way at full health.
Just thinking out loud there.

Alchemist support/roaming ganker looks like it's been given a nerf. He no longer has the increased night vision. The unstable concoction 'shake' only lasts for 5.5 instead of 7 so you have 0.5 seconds only to get a full damage concoction off and the damage is calculated from when you throw it, not when it lands. I think the retooling of him in 6.79 was meant to nerf him as a carry, but it unintentionally buffed him as a ganking support with tankiness which was a bit OP in the higher levels.

Yeah that happens a lot with random heroes and random lanes. Everyone picks carries. No one buys courier.

You really have to be a bit of a bossy dick and tell people to buy the courier, how they should lane and how someone should pick a support etc.
Bloody hell I hate it when no one communicates, I ask if anyone is going to buy the courier, no one answers. I don't care if they answer no and they're a hard support just tell me so we don't waste time.

Just played a game recently as Dragon Knight with Sniper, QOP, Veno, Abaddon. So I'm thinking perhaps QOP should mid, vendo/aba are supports so they will buy the courier. Nope, veno wanted mid (could talk then) didn't respond when I asked about the courier and Sniper decided to go bot with me. Luckily the Sniper was a shit last hitter so I was able to get good farm but he still got some kill steals and auto attacked all creeps. Of course no wards were bought all game and no support items like mek or urn. QOP turned out to be very cool about it and bought the courier and the upgrade. Somehow we still steamrolled the opposition so it just encourages that type of behaviour.

I really wish there was a game mode that forced a team to have a support and even auto buy the courier or wards.
I've had games where I pick a melee carry early (at the risk of being counter picked) to give the team plenty of time to picked something balanced. Of course they all pick carries except for one guy who picks a support, but he wants to mid. Won't buy the courier. Won't buy wards. You ask people if they're going to buy it. You end up having to buy it that's 150 G down the tube. You end up in a lane with another melee guy. You get zoned out by the other laners and ganked all the time. You buy wards to counter this or to counter invis because the team won't. That's 300 G down. 3-10 minutes in people really need items but won't spend 220 g for the upgrade. 550 gold down. Let me abandon the game :(

You're spot on in that regard on how TB is more a of an carry rather than an roamer. Back in Dota 1, people pretty much used to do exactly what you said in your post. The strat had a high chance of backfiring because TB always had terrible base HP, making him a easy target in early game for heroes with stun locks, so he was quite easy to shut out during that time (A 2 second stun was long enough to kill him off quickly before he'd switch HP with you). But he becomes a prick once he begin stacking up on attack/hp after purchasing S&Y; just an annoying hero to go after because of the high chance that one of you will go down with him.

Yeah the new hero's look strong, I like Terrorblade though, could be a good late game carry..Never played the original Dota so don't know how he was played.

Phoenix looks ok too, probably not for pubs since you need team work which you don't get on pubs.

This is my favorite part of the update.

"Holding ALT and clicking on an ability will now issue a context-sensitive ping for that ability. This can be used to indicate whether the pinged ability is ready for use, if you do not have enough mana to use this ability, or to indicate the number of seconds remaining on that ability’s cooldown."

Wow that's so useful. That will help communication in pubs immensely.

Having a tough time getting back into this. I've always sucked but now I suck even more.

For some reason I always seem to be a lower level than everyone else, even if I'm playing really well.

I hate playing carry and having that responsibility on my shoulders, I'd love to learn one day though. Terrorblade looks like heaps of fun

Sounds to me like you don't farm well. Top players are literally killing something wherever they go. You earn just as much, if not more, gold and experience from killing creaps as you do from ganks. So whenever passing be a cheap camp, or if you're not needed for a fight slaughter it :) Make sure you deny as much as possible too.
If you're Let a carry, just last hit, let the lane pushers push lanes (assuming you have a balanced team that is).
If you mostly support, chances are you'll have a lower level anyway, because you assist rather than kill.

Thanks for the advice.

There are some carries I farm well with, Natures Prophet being one of them. I just find him easier cause you can teleport right next to opponents on low health and get easy kills.

Do you guys find that some heroes are only useful early game? I play a pretty good dazzle and keeper, but late game they seem a bit irrelevant and most of their abilities are useless.

Most supports are like that late game. Some nuking supports like Lion, Lina etc seem like world beaters early and mid game but don't do much late game, often because they get too squishy. There are a few teamfight supports that are useful throughout the game like Tidehunter, Sandking, Earthshaker. You might sacrifice yourself but your ability to turn teamfights are game changing.

With being low levels are you in lane constantly? Getting back to lane is a priority. If you can get TPs always get them to get back into lane, especially early game. 135 G is a low price to pay. If you are a good farmer you will earn that back with about 4 last hits which you would have missed. If you're the babysitter support you'll get compensated in XP which you need. TP scrolls save time. Just think that every bit of time spent out of lane is a missed opportunity to get XP and gold. If you see a lane pushed nice and close to the tower without anyone farming it you've got to look at that at an opportunity for easy farm. The midlane's a good example. If you've just respawned, the mid is roaming for a gank, you've got a TP scroll and the mid lane is up over the river on you side then farm the midlane for a while.

If you're in the hardlane (although it's a bit easy since 6.79) just try to stay in XP range as much as you can at all times.

I'm not a great roamer to be honest. I can't do it constantly. I'll only rotate to another lane during the laning phase to defend and push when needed or if it's a slam dunk gank opportunity in the perfect position. If you're deciding to just be a roaming ganker you've really got to make it up by making sure most of your ganks are successful. If you show yourself too easily or if the other team wards well most smart players will back off. Failed ganks where someone goes out of lane to gank you are a small victory.

I'm finding even after 300 games (which I know isn't that much) that there are game mechanics I have no idea about. I didn't even know there was a level of creeps below Mega Creeps: Super Creeps where you only destroy one of the barracks. I also didn't know Super/Megas only give half gold and XP, I assumed they gave more.

I've played close to 700 games and didn't know all that lol

I think its also got to do with the fact that I'm just not good with certain heroes. Timbersaw and Natures and probably my two best carries.
The game overwhelms me sometimes with the amount of heroes that there are. It really is essential to learn how to play them all I reckon.

Yeah I come up against some heroes and I still don't know what their skills are. Enchantress is one of the ones that has made me look stupid, trying to attack her with -100 attack speed. That's why I'm trying to win 1 game with all the heroes A-Z. Before I was hopeless with anything but a support but I'm getting better at carrying.

Just had my first game with Blues4evver.. Was fun, even though we lost. Doom and Silencer = screwed...

We should do a BigFooty game sometime.

I'm super shit at the dotes, I'm normally 10 cones deep when I play (slight exaggeration)

Go under the name 'Snappy', don't rage at me when I lose the game.
I'm sure a few here could teach you a few things if you want. I don't mind losing as long as it's with good blokes instead of twats moaning from the outset.

Nothing worse than having to finish a 45 minute game when 5 minutes in you know you have lost.

My one major gripe with this game, it wastes so much time.
