champs will reveal much but for now toumps would be our man if he is available. from knightmare and chris25,

toumpas 183cm, sa lad, composed and skilled kick.
simpson 181cm- wa lad, skilled fast attacking player

stringer- 191cm country vic. inside mid/ utility. broke his leg last year though, aside from that is talked up a a star. we would want to know his body is sound we cant afford the risk.

vlastiun- 186 inside mid. strong barging clean ball winner. seems to be an early concensus for us. sounds good im not sure if he is the line breaker we need though. average athlete good footballer type.

some i really like the sounds of later

rory atkins 185cm- described as dangerfield type just pushes the ball forwards and wills it ahead.

orourke 183cm inside/outside ballwinner

kennedy 174cm small forwrd / midfielder. definately wouldnt go with too early a pick but he turns it on has x-factor and grunt. i like that. plays well against men.

irra 183cm? sa lad. fast good kick. wouldnt take too early as he could be anything inbetween but id he is around after we grab 2 mids then go for it.

i really like mids to be around that 183-187cm mark i think its the sweet spot between size and not being pigeon-holed as a flanker. we either have small mids like boak, pearce gray all 181ishcm, then we have guys that are 188cms+ but border on being flanker midfielders.

we absolutely need pure mids.

kicking skills

good footy smarts/ execute skills under pressure

pace. pace pace. players that will break our stagnant game right open. this is our biggest need imo. is why i have toumps and simpson at the top of my list of wants.

This sounds like someone we need. A bid bodied mid who will have a presence in the centre square and won't be thrown around like a rag doll by the opposition as it is happening now.

cough Andrew Moore cough

heard that Stringer kicked 9.7 i think in his return game form that leg injury. might need to consider if u can get him :)

If we did get two early picks in the 2012 draft what's the best strategy for using them? Grab the two best mids or the best mid and Brodie Grundy?

We really need to bolster our midfield with blue chip quality but Grundy is such a great prospect both rucking and going forward to kick goals.

I think we need two mids and with Dom near the end we need a player who can play predominantly on the inside and win contested footy like Josh Carr or Brett Ratten. From all reports Vlastuin seems to be that bloke.

If we got him and Toumpas I would be happy with that (of course we would need a priority pick for that to happen, but we must be a very strong chance to get one after the last 5 seasons).

It's a great question.

2 mids and a tall is what we need. If we took Grundy we could trade Westhoff as he may suck someone in.

You has looked down this year, is he tanking?

Grundy, we have plenty of blokes drafted as mids playing out of position, Jacobs, Newton, Wingard add these to Boak, Hamish, Gray, Peirce, Ba.Ebert with Ah Che and Moore pinch hitting in there. I now lean towards best available mid, Grundy the Pace,Pace,Pace...

I would say midfield and we need some midfielders with pace since we are so one paced it's crazy

So as a preference id go
1. Probably won't happen but Whitfield would be great
2. Toumpas could happen
3. Vlastuin great player
4. Stringer he's a great midfielder but after the leg injury I'm not sure how that will affect him
5. Haynes
6. Simpson
7. Wilkins
Then there's say Ben Kennedy who could fill our small forward or midfield role, Grundy who is a god of a ruckman and well that is probably our best choices for the moment but things can change

We have drafted our talls. We have the talls on our list to compete for flags in a few years.

Schulz, Butcher and Westhoff up forward, Redden and Lobbe in the middle and Trengove, Chaplin and Carlile down back. All are easily good enough for a flag push in 2-3-4 seasons if we are magically able to add two absolute top midfielders to our list.

If we were to have two picks in the top 5, two sure-thing bankable midfielders please.

We've actually drafted very smartly IMO. You draft your talls first because they take longer to develop, and once you have the right talls, take smalls. I am a big believer that the right talls are already on our list.

^ If we get a compo pick for GWS taking a player I don't think we can use it this year.

It might be a handy bargaining chip for the GWS mini-draft or something.

Why not? When the Bulldogs received their compo pick for Ward they could have used it in 2011. The problem with that was that it would have to be taken at the end of the first round as 2011 was an expansion team draft. After that it reverted to its nominated value.

2012 is not an expansion draft so if we did get say a Band 2 selection we could use it straight after our first round pick.

Makes sense, but I thought teams had to nominate at the start of the year that they want to use a compo pick, and obviously we wont get the chance to do that.

Just more confusing/pointless rules. I guess we can use it then.

2 mids

I know our draft team had a lot of faith in Boak, Gray and Hartlett to produce in the midfield --> i think that's why they avoided drafting genuine mids in the past

At the moment we have names that look good on paper but the production is just not quite there yet.

Here is a thought that i reckon is worthy of a late night post

GWS have two minidraft picks left correct?
This is the last year to trade them off correct?

Go for there pick 2 this year, for our second rounder (pick 30?)

Or atleast make an attempt for it while holding our first rounder (s?)

GWS will surely want to get something for it as if they don't use it now they gain nothing and the pick would most probably give us a player of first round quality (but we've already had a year to help develop him (at least we'll try:o) ) And then watch him debut Adelaide Oval round 1 V crows 2014
