Essendon vow enough is enough

It's been one game, against probably to most in form side in the comp.

If we get to the end of the season and have lost every game by 5 goals then yeah, it's obviously s**t. If Essendon players do the talk but don't do the walk then it has failed. Essendon fans are just hoping this might make them stick some tackles, get the ball when it's their time to go. Something this club hasn't done consistently for a very long time.

Nothing wrong with asking for more from the players.
The problem, as I see it, is turning it into a thing: "Essendon Edge".
It puts all the Essendon players in the gun for anybody and everybody to ridicule them when they don't demonstrate the "edge" or if they do demonstrate the "edge" but get flogged anyway. Keep it in house.

Clarko made a habit of having his players primed for some hard stuff against the Swans...without ever making a big deal out of it.

Maybe we did keep it in house and nothing changed, could be a way for Brad to put it on the players to step up or look like chumps.

The issue is the shitty name, just say we plan to be physical without the gimmicks. Essendon aren't great at these things though, we'll probably have an Essendon Edge tshirt for sale in a month

Essendon Edge merch would sell well.

Is this a one off thing for the Swans game or this philosophy expected to be carried throughout the season?

“We’ve been very explicit that we want an ‘Essendon edge’ and I think all people who’ve followed our club for a long period of time know what (that) looks like,” Scott said.

"Clearly we measure everything really closely, but it’s day-by-day for us. We’ve got to keep building a system that our players, coaching group, and by extension our fans have confidence in."

Reading between the lines suggests that it's here to stay. It could get a lot better though and that's what they will work on. Have to remember, this club has been soft for years.

But look at Essendon before and after that. Bullies before and flat track bullies since. The rest of the teams took a good look

Don’t even need to compare winning finals since

Nothing to do with it. Essendon just had an aging premiership core and Sheedy had kept trying to top up and eventually they were threadbare.

Longmire beats Brad Scott's team before the ball is bounced.

Essendon have been irrelevant for two decades and counting now. Just amuses us to see them pretend to be tough, given what a weak club they are.
Very irrelevant the last two decades but still 16 premierships and 2 AFL premierships. Meanwhile Sydney still have the same amount of AFL premierships as Essendon despite "contending" for how long? What did Sydney do with their relevance since 2012? Become the new Colliwobbles?

Imagine being 'relevant' for that long and having a sook because an 'irrelevant' club physically intimidated your Papleys.

As a Hawthorne supporter I'd be interested to get your take on Jai Newcombe's cowardly hit on Clayton Oliver in the first quarter. Deliberately changing his line to clean up Oliver after he disposed of the ball should get a couple of weeks' suspension, but not one word of it by the media or on here.

I thought he was lucky. Maybe the powers were still scrutinising sicily

Hawthorn supporters still talk about the line in the sand game….a game they lost by over 70 points.
Not suggesting this will be the same, but Essendon have been soft for year. It’s good to see some aggression.
Wow, just saw Scott now on TV, he's had enough.

"the pickles are coming off, the bacon is going on!"

Good move though. Didn’t know you could do that on the maccas screens

Literally Hawthorn. Do you forget you lost the line in the sand game by 70 points.

So us hawks supporters have forgotten a game we still talk about? Interesting to have both accusations

Clearly we can’t resist an Essendon pile-on, but we really don’t talk about that game much because there’s been plenty of other memorable things since

I think others referenced it here first jus 8 hawks players from that game in the 2008 flag. Include hodge and Mitchell who won more, but weren’t in the thick of the melee really

Does anyone else think this essendon “edge” stuff makes them look like wa-n-kers??
nuh,

its definitely out of the journalists trying to spruce a headline or the imbeciles who eat this collective rubbish said media spruce

I'll let you think about what category it belongs in

They lack real grit in the midfield.
Look great when on the fly and on the turnover.
unsure if you actually watched the game but Saints midfield rated highly and we won the clearance count so not sure what you're smoking. Would definitely love to know
