Coaches and Clubs have a lot of pressure on them to come up with branding labels and line in the sand comments and all sorts of BS mate - like "whatever it takes" or "they can see us coming" blah blah blah...it is all cringeworthy stuff
Good on Scott for asking the team to be more accountable at the contest - every coach asks the same - calling it Essendon edge or some other malarky is what has drawn the banter - that and his perpetually almost ready to cry quivering upper lip - which is on Scott not Essendon.
That was pretty well established when he said their edge was a facade. The Old False Bravado.

Yeah we're shit, no denying that. While I'm not supporting what Wright did, i'd still rather how players go in hard and lose than sit back like we did last year and still lose. It wasn't a full game, we are still soft in places but as an Essendon supporter that has seen a club with a soft underbelly for the bet part of a decade it was a nice change.

I think the time for that kind of stuff was already over even when the Hawks did it, let alone today. Hope Scott has some more modern plans
Correct. I’m very happy the club are wanting to become a more aggressive outfit, it’s been too nice for too long and been pushed around. It just needs to find the right balance with this. Broadly though it’s good to see Essendon endeavouring to become a more physical opponent.

The only biff was Wright, who was late to a contest and instead of competing he braced and collected Cunningham. The rest was just Essendon not being soft (for a whole game)
Papley squaling blue murder is funny when his team did it to Daicos and the Pies a year earlier. I'm unsure why the term Essendon Edge upset Sysdney players so much, it's just a stupid phrase coaches come up with but hey, here we are.

Credit to Melbourne where it's due. Most of those players are premiership players so some chest beating is justified.
