Just random browsing I saw this article on Fog pre-drafting:
The summary of it all was:
DRAFT ANALYSIS: "The best South Australian draft prospect who may transition to an inside midfielder if he can improve his endurance"

With all the rage of us this year trying all sorts of permutations on the dual midfield/forward role a la Rankine, Soligo, Pedlar, Rachele, Keays etc…
We seem to have forgotten the initial trial of Fog, the potential midfielder.

I recall Fog playing more midfield minutes in previous years and he did quite well in some of the quarters when positioned in the center. So….should we abandon this project or shall we unleash him in the midfield to become a rampaging bulldozing midfielder? A midfielder with strength, decent agility and can kick 60m bombs on both leg with precision is something worth pondering right?

What do we think of Fog’s position in 2024?

I personally would love to see Fog be played more in the midfield. Particularly in the past 12 months, there is an increase in his confidence and likely to be better in endurance with another preseason workout.

Tactically, if we win the midfield battle with the current stocks, then Fog would be best fit up forward. But if we’re soundly beaten in the midfield and the ball is not showing itself up forward, then it might be the prefect chance to try Fog in the midfield to change up the midfield combination. Just some thoughts.

Play him at HF and have Gollant, Thilthorpe, Burgess up forward with the smaller guys (when Tex calls it quits). Build his tank as a roaming forward, he will get enough ball and can do damage through HB to FF

My memory of him playing in the centre was a fail.
I think he’s playing the perfect role at the moment. He’s not a stay at home forward, he roams up field quite a lot.

We need full-time specialised mids, enough with these hybrids.
I strongly disagree Fog being tried in the midfield in the past was a fail. More like he was good in short bursts and didn’t have the petrol to match it with the tank of a full time midfielder.

I have no problems with Fog being a permanent forward in 2024. Though a part of me is still curious how he’d fare if tried again in the midfield. He has genuine leg weapons that is useful as a midfielder, that can penetrate deep in the forward zone, or he can do dangerous short kicks to a forward on the lead.

Must be off season.

Anyway, we've been through this and Fog is only a key forward at AFL level.
With poor endurance in his early years, he was never going to look like a serious midfielder back then. With improved fitness now and a new level of confidence, I doubt if he’ll be worse off in the midfield now than back then.

The poll is probably not asking the right question. Maybe it’ll get people to think more if I ask:
“Would you be upset with Nicks if he tries Fog in the midfield up to 25% game time?” I think the poll response might look different.

Thought this was a 2019 thread bump.

Fog is a forward.

The midfield/defender experiment is over.

The essence of this thread is asking “would you be upset if Fog is tried more in the midfield in 2024?” Particularly when I referenced the article, that talked about him displaying some good weapons as a potential midfielder, just needed the endurance.

So now with more endurance (hopefully), is it worth giving him some more midfield time? I feel it’s a legitimate question to ask.

Sometimes fish in the barrel loses its appeal
This is exactly how I feel when you try to get me to respond to your posts. Meaningless character assassination in the guise of a discussion. It bores me. You and your clan.

There is one person on the planet with any vested interest in the Crows winning games who wants Fog even spending 1% game time in the midfield, and they started this thread.

Fog as an AFL mid is about as good an idea as Josh Jenkins the defender. Horrendous. Will never happen again. End thread.
