The only coach we haven’t yet replaced is Mark Webb. Not sure whether his role has been dissolved.

Still a goal kicking coach, head of fitness and medical boss to announce at a minimum.

It’s seems like Lade has absorbed Webb’s responsibilities and Egan has been brought in to shoulder the load amongst the group.

Lade took over his role and they basically created something for Webb to do rather than pay him out if I recall.

My understanding is Maddock and Lade will be handing that role (Webb)

Removing the players that played in flags, or carved out a half decent career. There’s still a massive amount of bad misses.

Wide range of selections. Some 1st and 2nd rounders in that too.

Almost 3 players recruited every year he was there could be considered poor to just ok.
Is there single recruiter in the league (who's been in the role for at least 10 odd years), who doesn't have dozens of failed selections?

Assessing recruiters comes down to a lot of assumptions, but I'm assuming not many others in the field walk away with Bont, Macrae Naughton, English with those picks in hand. It's all very easy to say "Bont at 4 and Naughton at 9 - well-duh" in hindsight, but I'd be willing to bet not many other club recruiters had them that high on their draft board.

Obviously with a couple of notable exeptions, with top 30 picks, he had a habit of picking up one of the best options available at that choice. (i.e. in the next ten players selected, not many, if any, go on to have better careers). It sounds so simple, but there's a lot of clubs who, given their records with picks in the top 30, would love to have someone who did it as consistently as he did.

I like the ins and I know it’s not as simple as good forwards make good coaches but there’s really no specialist forward presence on our panel at all. Egan, Pratt, Geary, Johnson, Lade all def/mid/ruck even our forward coach is a defender.

Not overly stoked with that considering our forward line is such an issue and we’re so stocked in young talent there that needs a hell of a lot of guidance, I really would like a specialist forward to be working with them. Seems a bit amateur to invest so heavily in youth but not give them the best off field support.

Hopefully the goal kicker coach is goal kicking/specialist forward coach as I think someone alluded to on here.

Whilst I'd LOVE to have a coach in our forward line who has been there and done that in the forward line, I don't think it's really important at all.

The best two sides in 2023 will be going into 2024 with Scott Selwood and Murray Davis respectively. I appreciate their forward lines aren't clearly an issue though.

Just having this many new voices around the group, many with decent recent coaching and playing experience, will do wonders for the team.

I reckon we could be a bit of a Smokey next season. Mids stilll capable, fwd line will only get better (I’m anticipating a massive upswing), defensively hopefully we see improvement with a regular KPP set up and development from JOD. Probably written off by most of the comp after this seasons performance. Ripe for the picking by Bevo’s emotional brilliance.

Could this off season be this decades post 2014. Here’s hoping.

Up the Scray!!

Love this appointment. I remember watching Johnson on Open Mike a few years back and he was ultra impressive with the way he spoke and the maturity he had. Great get.

Good communication skills most important thing for coaches IMO.

Player buy is key and having someone that can sell what the coaches are selling with clear and concise messaging is where it’s at.

Hopefully he goes well.
