Kolo is a poor decision maker with poor disposal. The opposition know this and and are happy for him to have ball in hand and then hit him with some pressure and he crumbles. He's not a bad shutdown player but he offers no drive out of defence, in fact he kills momentum more than any other player in the team.

Henry is raw and makes the odd mistake but at least he plays with some enterprise and is a far more athletic option than Kolo.
Henry all day every day over Kolo.

Its interesting you say that about Henry, I think he attacks the ball with intent and can mark. I find that Kolo is a bit dopey at times when under pressure. I feel more at ease with Henry going for it under pressure than I am with Kolo.

Who did we have on Motlop in defence? I wasn't paying attention, he got a lot of easy ones. Was it Henry? or another player?

O'Connor had him for a bit I reckon ... I love what Mark O'Connor has done with his career to date, but he's had a poor couple of weeks. Better players than he have lost form before, the challenge is to regain it.

Bored of this.

System was fine so that wasn't the issue. We just had a bunch of individual who choked and couldn't handle the pressure or the moment. It's as simple as that.

It wasn't everyone. If the entire team choked we would have lost by 50+. But enough of them did.
This is the clearest, most concise and accurate synopsis. Well done

For the record I haven't smiled since the 3rd quarter but this made me crack up.

That is one of the most ludicrous suggestions. You're fundamentally asking to remove two of our best defenders, and in my opinion our most mercurial forward. Only to replace them with a first year player, a second player whose barely played seniors and Jack Steven who has quickly become the new whipping boy.

If we won the ball in the midfield more often and gave our forwards advantageous entries, we would have kicked more goals and it would have relieved a lot of pressure our backs had on them all night.

The engine room was the problem tonight.

Touché.

Henry is our worst defender and by some distance.
Taylor, Henderson, Kolodjashnij, Henry, Bews, Blicavs, Stewart, O’Connor and Tuohy are all best positioned as defenders. That’s 9 defenders. Nine. Henry doesn’t play on the dangerous smalls (O’Connor and Bews), or the dangerous talls (Henderson and Taylor). Stewart is the interceptor. Blicavs the utility. Tuohy provides run and carry. Henry is averaging 9.4 disposals per game this year. He doesn’t play a “lock down” role. He is a liability when the ball is in his hands (rarely). Please enlighten me as to why Henry is one of our best defenders. I’m genuinely curious.

Our engine room will continue to struggle as long as Dangerfield is played forward. A centre square trio of Duncan, Dahlhaus and Atkins when the game is on the line will not get the job done. That’s on the coach.

Of the defenders, I thought Hendo was our best. Taylor is being criticised unfairly imo. Yes he's on his last legs, and yes he got outpaced by Mots for that one goal (would have happened even to peak Harry; Motlop is fast), but I thought he was good in one on ones. O'Connor, Bews and Tuohy were also all fine.

Kolo and Henry and Stewart were the ones who had shockers. Kolo and Henry were panic merchants and choked every time the pressure was on. Stewart's failures were more related to bad decision-making than panicking with ball in hand like Kolo and Hendo; he kept on leaving his man and failing to impact the contest.

Oh, and Miers has kicked 16 goals in 17 games. Mercurial lol.

Yes.
But I didn't think Kolodjashnij was all that bad, tbh - first half in fact I thought he was good.
And Henry had some poor moments.

Overall, the future Geelong defense is surely being built with Henry in mind. Kolodjashnij has hung on thus far to the tune of 100+ games; he is very limited but I reckon his 2nd half of the year has been a 'pass' and believe me please I have been keeping an eye on him ever since I think David the Cat put him in the gun earlier in the year. Yes I would trade him if a reasonable offer came up, no worries there, but he can still contribute at the top level.

Kolo and Henry can play when assigned to bigger forwards like last year's semi final against the eagles, however when they are selected to play as small/medium defenders who can lock down a small and create the other way, they are dead set liabilities. Once again, this is Scarletts area of expertise and he gets it wrong every week.

Pick any 2 of Henry, Kolo, Taylor and Henderson to partner Blicavs each week. Do not need all 5. Then pick Stewart, Clark, Bews and O'Connor to play on smalls and link with the midfield.

Would also like to see Rohan given a chance to run off half back when he is shut out of games forward.

Tried to tell you that all week long.
In fact, there are may on here who can see it except the coaches. Bizarre.

Clark is the future. Play the boy. He hasn't even been poor in the games he has played either. It's different if he was a massive liability but he's got spark. Needs to play.

I agree with this. Outside of injury, not sure why Clark hasn't been played. Takes the game on, can run, can kick long, doesn't drop his head or his intensity.

I reckon he'd have gone close.

It was a really good mark. He wasn't to know exactly how long was left, and he did hit his target (Hawkins wasn't it?).

I've had my eye on Duncan for a while now as a Finals underachiever; thought he did ok tonight - not great, but ok. Went missing in the 3rd quarter along with most of the team, but that mark to end the quarter was gutsy.

It was the most animated I was all night I reckon; I was yelling at the tv 'advising' him to go back and have a shot.

He surely knew time was tight...I just think he didn't believe he could make the distance. Thats the only excuse I can find for him.

Parfitt did the same on the 1/4 time siren. He should have known time was tight...or don't we communicate these things..?

I find it strange how Menegola has avoided criticism, commentators were talking him up to be the most improved player of the comp this year.

Has had some really poor games of late. Needs to lift and must lift to keep us in the race.

Both him and Guthrie had very poor nights. After such good years it was back to the 2019 and before for them both.

O'Connor had him for a bit I reckon ... I love what Mark O'Connor has done with his career to date, but he's had a poor couple of weeks. Better players than he have lost form before, the challenge is to regain it.

Kolo had him for a bit. Clearly remember Motlop outmarking him at half forward in the 3rd qtr. As did Bews. But Motlop did the most damage whilst playing on O'Connor.

Didn’t watch the game because I knew what would happen. See the score after the siren, and it’s the least surprising thing I have ever seen. Until Geelong recognise that the game style is completely unsuited to finals and many of the selected players unsuited to their current role, we remain an AFL joke. Soft as butter.

Similar to many, I'm not gonna bother tonight ladies and Gentlemen.

Scrounge whatever we can out of this hell of a year and hit the draft hard

Cheers
