Like Death & taxes will never happen??

OR Like...

Melbourne will come back from a 10 goal deficit today in Perth will never happen??

well in the wide wide world of possibilities ..nearly anything is possible .. but I think its been nearly 50 years since we had 11 home and with games.. basically since vfl park came along ...

We've actually gotta ask for 11 KP games fitst.
Everyone seems to ignore this point for some reason.

We do ask for 11.

Except we know that every second year Easter Monday has to be at the G, so I guess we ask for 10.5

Any word on this post-election?
Andrews promised money for Stage 5

https://www.premier.vic.gov.au/bringing-the-best-sports-and-entertainment-to-geelong/

The $102 million project will increase the stadium capacity to 40,000 and complete the stadium bowl, with a new 14,000 capacity two-tier northern stand to replace the ageing Ford Stand and Ablett Terrace.

It will also include a new northern entry plaza for patrons entering from Geelong city centre and the South Geelong train station.

Won't start until after 2020 cricket season, so Feb 2021

The project will create around 300 jobs. Work will start after the ICC World T20 matches being held at Kardinia Park in 2020, with construction to finish in 2022.

If they are only going to wait for the T20 World Cup, that's being played across Oct & Nov, so theoretically they could start by the end of November 2020.

It could then depend on arrangement/agreement between KP & Melbourne Renegades if they are going to be playing any matches in Geelong during the 2020/2021 Big Bash - we had 1 match last year & 2 matches this coming season. If they are going to use the stadium again then it would be as you said, after the cricket season - so around February.

Didnt realise how early it was, but i think they would want another BBL season. New stand could give us our own team as it would line up nicely with the next rights deal from memory

How does the following decision impact not only the stage 5 development but also the grounds use with other sports such as cricket?

The winning Victorian bid will join the A-League in 2019-20, before the South-west Sydney bid enters in 2020-21.

Western Melbourne will play out of Kardinia Park for the first two season before moving into a boutique rectangular 15-000-seat stadium in Tarneit, which they’ve vowed to build with their own funds.

We know the ground is already being used for the T20 World Cup to be held over October & November 2020 - so one would think no development would start until after that.

Now with the new soccer team now playing out of KP for the next 2 summers, will they request no development during their time using the venue or will they have to suck it up during the 2020/2021 season if development starts at the completion of the venue being used during the T20 WC?

And not necessarily redevelopment related, but does a soccer team moving in kick the Melbourne Renegades out from using the venue for a couple of matches in January as per this season or will the team have to be on the road for a month if the cricket is in town? Obviously not too hard to share the venue between AFL & soccer (really that's different line markings), but raises questions with a completely different sport - personally I'd rather the cricket

The more the merrier. Don't really see why it would stall any redevelopment.
They are likely to draw only a couple of thousand to a home game anyway.

I'm just being selfish - I'm a Victory member so am thinking that this new team playing in Geelong for the next 2 seasons might impact on Victory playing a home game in Geelong.

It would be funny though if after 2 seasons in Geelong that when they move to their permanent home at a new, boutique 15,000 seat stadium in Tarneit (o_O), that the crowds there are lower than they draw at their temporary home

Aaaah. Tarneit! How's the serenity?

The good thing about KP being so narrow means it's better for round ball viewing than MCG and Docklands.
My daughter and I watched the Matildas V China there. Was great until lightning stopped play just before half time!

I was at the same game and totally agree, but still pissed off they didn't just show highlights of previous Matildas games during that break in play.

I've been to a few soccer matches there and it is good viewing

We left, because we'd already seen three great Aussie goals and I wasn't sure if they even restart the game.

So you bring the pitch down towards the player stand and at the same time redevelop what would otherwise be an empty Ablett Terrace

No way known the government builds a stadium in Tarneit. Isolated and in the middle of nowhere.

If the expansion team doesn’t fold ala their last expansion efforts, then I think we may have got an A-League team by stealth

I wouldn't be surprised either - the way they awarded the licence to "Western Melbourne" has to raise eyebrows:

- the initially favoured 11th team was to be located South East Melbourne
- there was government support to build a $120 million, 15,000 seat stadium in Dandenong

but instead...
- the Western Melbourne bidding team vowed to fully fund the building of a boutique 15,000 seat stadium in Tarneit (this has been praised by FFA because it means that a team will actually own their own stadium rather than renting/leasing it - until funding falls through & it doesn't get built)
- they also reportedly stumped up more for the licence fee than the other bids

So ultimately, the decision wasn't actually about which bid was best or which potential team would be best for the fans but rather just about which bid was willing to pay the most money
