I think thre problem with this deal was that (and someone correct me on the actual numbers here) Bowes still had two-years to run on his contract that was backloaded, the total salary amount was really high.

After acquiring Bowes, the Cats were then able to restructure the deal and pay him the same money but over four-years, not two so they did not have to suffer any pain or inconvenience.

Do you really think Jack Bowes would agree to play for free for 2 years? There were plenty of clubs willing to pay out his contract to get the draft pick.

Geelong were the only one running to add 2 years on solid money. He was owed something like $1.8m over 2 and Geelong's paying him $2.6m over 4.

Are Geelong even that far in the black for trades?

Losing Ablett Jnr and Tim Kelly and gaining Dangerfield and Cameron…it’s pretty even.

All the rest are pretty run of the mill trades that could be done by any club.

I agree with that on face value. Only issue is they got great compo for Ablett Jnr whereas we got pick 19 for Buddy.

Geelong fans 101.

"Danger, Cameron, Smith, Ablett Jnr all needed to come home, those clubs owed
it to them to help them., its outrageous if they dont."

One player wants to go home to be with his wife and kids, "Lol **** him, Geelong owe him nothing."
If this is related to Kelly then it's an unfair slur.

He was interviewed extensively by multiple clubs pre-draft and having been overlooked multiple times ensured he was happy to play anywhere.

One year in wants out. Any club giving up a 20s pick to draft him 12 months earlier would hold out for a better deal, which they did.

And just like we benefited from the aforementioned wanting a move out of contract we lost Kelly the same way so all's fair in love and war in that regard.

We've become so powerful that the Doggies board have become obsessed with reading our board so they can report "arrogant" comments (e.g. tipping the winner, margin and NS) to the Brisbane board.

That's some fricking power right there.
I don't blame them because you shafted them on the Bailey Smith trade by refusing to negotiate.

The other 5 were Cameron, Smith, Dangerfield, Bowes and Martin.
Can't possibly count Stengle. I'm talking about the myth of us grabbing players from other teams.

Stengle was thrown a lifeline by us from the SANFL, not another AFL team.

It was five players, and 18 who owe their careers to being spotted and brought in by us.

And as for "poaching" we've grabbed three big names in 10 years. Way fewer than just about every other team, if not every.

You can add Jhye Clarke because that was Gold Coast's pick.
Cameron, Dangerfield and Smith also refused to negotiate with other clubs for better deals.
Jhye Clark, drafted to Geelong at pick 8 from the Geelong Falcons, never played at any other club apart from Geelong, is a 'player from another club'. One of your best ones ever. 🙏

Ohhh Aristotlemaths..

Add Jhye Clark but we will now also subtract all other clubs' players recruited from the Geelong Falcons and St Joey's.

Bitachass league owes us 31 players.

If Geelong didn’t negotiate how did the deal get done?

I think what you really meant is “Geelong set the price they were willing to pay. Bulldogs didn’t have a strong bargaining position having let his contract run to term so eventually agreed to it. The deal was done”.

You’re really bitter about this for some reason.
Hope you’re able to find some inner peace soon.

More players from the Rookie draft and Cat B (8) than trade (5) and DELISTED free agents (2) combined... :eekv1:

Current Geelong should be battlers in the GFL with this kind of build.

Agreed.

They should probably start by stopping the Hawks from raiding the competition. They had 10 recruits on Friday and none of those were off footy's discard pile (delisted free agents or salary dump)

Barrass, Battle, Impey, Amon, Scrimshaw, Chol, D'Ambrosio, Meek, Ginnivan and Gunston is quite the group pillaged from other clubs!

Maybe the AFL can bring Hawthorn more in line with Geelong who only had 6 recruits from other clubs on Friday with 3 of those thrown a lifeline as delisted free agents or salary dump trades.
D’ambrosio was effectively undervalued/ unwanted. Chol also, and Gunston was a donation to lions from us initially.
