Autopsy Hawks: 30 minutes not enough for 4 points...

I don't mind Cousins but someone at the club needs to give him the confidence to hit targets further than 20m away and forward of centre instead of sideways or backwards, a few times he could have penetrated through Norths zone and he elected to go sideways, was beyond frustrating.

We have shown some good signs this year but I feel really strongly that we have been let down at MC with team selections, we have, on to many occasions had blokes who have provided absolutely zero/zilch/nada... It has to change otherwise we will continues to see performances like yesterday, you can't keep showing faith in guys who refuse or don't have the ability to compete.

Thought Chip did alright in the second half when our midfield wasn't getting absolutely belted.

He has a supporting cast of a stick thin Sicily and a 2 game VFL player in Mirra, while being besieged by a free running North Melbourne midfield who had absolutely zero pressure applied, while playing on the best forward in the comp who isn't an outright AFL Hall of famer/Legend. I'll cut him some slack this week.

He's had worse games this year and I fear the end is nigh but I thought he did an admirable job today.

Frawley was comfortably better than both Mirra and Stratton yesterday. Was the least of our concerns.

thoughts on Clarko?
did he get it horribly wrong yesterday or did the team collectively just have one of those days?

seems like adjustments were made at half time but by then it was too late.

Team collectively had a stinker.

2018. Every team will have those days occasionally. And a few most weeks.

I've avoided this thread for a while just to let myself form some opinions; the key one is, our kicking inside 50 needs to change and change quickly. We had a ton of inside 50s, more than Norf in the end and we just failed to capitalize. Robbie Tarrant took 16 marks and a hell of a lot of them would have been off oppo boot.

Unfortunately our F50 were just too static and we needed more from them, but except for Breust we didn't get much from any of them. We missed Cyril and Puopolo no matter what anyone says.

And how did we get slaughtered in the middle. By one Goldstein. I get really annoyed here by posters who do not understand the value of a good tap ruckman. Oh they're too slow. Small players run off them. The side would be better with no rucks. Blah blah blah.

BB is a very good ruck but his real strength is his marking.

A quality tap ruck is worth his weight in gold.

I heard a rumour somewhere that some ruck got 56 hit outs yesterday. I wonder who that was.

BB is a concern. Would love to see him actually take down a gun ruckman. Tends to beat up on the lesser lights.

There was a bit of spark after Mirra got cleaned up into the fence (although by comparison to other clean ups it wasn't as bad, I think the north player at least made contact in the field of play)
Thought the replay showed the push started with Mirra clearly outside the boundary line and ended with him making contact with concrete kerbing under the advertising.

You do realize we have put out the oldest team each week so far this year?
Couldn't give a shit what age sides other clubs are fielding. I'm looking across our side and seeing youngsters like Sicily, Morrison, Glass, Burton, Howe etc, and also the experience we've lost in the last 2 years. Between Mitch, Hodge, Lewis and Gibbo, well over 1000 games and 15 premierships worth.

North beat us up in the 1st half, in our recent encounters Hodgey, Lewis set the tone
But this is how the forum works:

1. Roughie has a bad game: Gene Simmons posts how useless Roughie has always been.

2. Roughie has a good game:
Gene Simmons: ... crickets ...

.

That is totally inaccurate!

I don't always post after Roughie has a bad game ;)

I am going off memory, haven't seen a replay.

Why when we desperate for height down back didn't Clarko throw TOB down there?
Where was the run and linking of handballs through the middle this week?
We can't bomb it into the undermanned Roughy every time(exactly as per Tiger's game).
The umpiring was so one sided it was ridiculous!

Every blind handball and footy off the side of the boot fell into North's lap.

Guess we chalk it up to the best possible day out for them and our worst skill effort(and coaching effort) for the year.

we gave away a lot of dumb free kicks because we were constantly second to the ball.
the ball always seemed to bounce their way because they outnumbered us at every contest.

we got our pants well and truly pulled down. the umps and luck had nothing to do with it.

To take down a gun tap ruckman, you need to be a gun tapper yourself. McEvoy is good when he neutralizes a gun ruckman. He won't ever take down a gun tapper and dominate them because he's a horrible tapper. This is why Monkey is probably our best positional coach. He has turned a horrible tap ruckman into an effective ruckman by planning a strategic attack on the opposition ruckman where he plays off the opponents' weaknesses.

We were competitive after quarter time, but gee we missed having the luxury of throwing guys like Burgoyne and Cyril into the guts half way through the first quarter to help stem the bleeding.

Our kids would have learnt a lot from yesterday.

Not sure we have figured out our best side and structure yet...

Will we?

What do you think we’ll do differently next week?

What we always do the following week, learn from the week before. I expect Hawthorn people to stand up and realise that you cannot perform miracles every day of the week.
And I have to say a Collingwood person commenting on Hawthorn has mentioned how bad some Hawks get when the team falls off the pace in a given game.
He/she was right, some of us Hawks just hammer everything and fold up and say idiotic things about Poppy and Cyril like this "until they are back playing it'll be like yesterday, every week? What absolute crap!
They don't do the same thing next week either, they learn , they tried to come back, they ran into North who are looking better than anyone thought, and I had a niggly feeling about North all week.
Our journey this year is a work in progress, our young players and older ones have to get used to each other until its all natural , It'll happen, nothing takes 5 minutes.
But you better believe that HAWTHORN LEARN QUICKER THAN ANY ONE ELSE.
So before you whingers start up, DON'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are on our way. Good on North , I didn't see the game but I heard that the umps weren't that hot. anyone ?

Go Hawks.

PS every team has to develop, if you rubbish the hell out of our club don't follow us!

Yes Cegs is our best tap ruckman. Spot on about Monkey he is larger than life and has done great things for us.

A good way to get Burton back into some form again would be to play him across half forward.

You'd think so.....but late in the game when we pushed forward he was in the pocket, looked up to see one of our players needing an option, refused to make a lead, stepped back and had zero interest in getting involved.
Haven't seen than that too often from a forward - not really wanting to get involved and seeming unsure of what to even do to be in a position to be an option.

Kid is lost.
Not sure Half forward is the easiest place to find your game.
