A much better idea than MP :thumbsu: as long as it doesn't take anything away from the SP.

that's really cool. I don't have a creative bone in my body so I probably won't try it but I'd be interested in playing other people's creations

Another awesome trailer, this time not only showing the amazing depth of the cutscenes this time around but also showing some brand new powers.

inFamous 2 game director Nate Fox has talked about seamlessly integrated UGC(user-generated content), importing your inFamous 1 save game and “smashing in people’s faces.”

We saw [LittleBigPlanet] and that just blew our doors off,” Fox said. “Here they were letting people have the fun of making games, and when we were making inFamous 1 we had this big open world, and we were placing villians and placing traps – it’s fun to do. We wanted to give that to players.
” He added: “The best part about it is that these missions just show up in your gameworld, so while you’re running through the mainline story path you can just decide, ‘I’m going to try one of these UGC missions’ – you don’t need to go to a database online to download it, it just shows up in New Marais. You know they’re going to be good because they’re selected by Sucker Punch.”
Fox went on to explain how the type of UGC missions that show up in the game world can be controlled by the player using filters. This means you can choose only to have those approved by Sucker Punch, open it up to every type of UGC, or limit it by mission type – puzzle- or story-based missions, for example.h

PS+ exclusive beta codes sent out. 1,963MB download.
Time to watch Hobo with a shotgun whilst it downloads.

You have been selected to take part in the inFamous 2 User Generated Content Beta Trial.

In inFamous 2 you can create your own missions and upload them for others to play. Design your own challenges, chases, hunts and combat sequences – the only limit to what you can create is your own imagination.

This Beta Trial is exclusive to selected PlayStation®Plus members and is your opportunity to have a go at designing some inFamous 2 missions right now.

Yet to use the UGC feature (I know, the whole point).
The beta starts with a commentated & played out for you tutorial showing you the basics (and a created mission that the guy finished in 5 secs)
1 min later I just wanted to play around, explore and reminiss and how good and how fluid this game still feels. Grinding, climbing, gliding followed by a thunder drop.. Ah so good.

Visual improvement is obvious. Smoke & fire effects look incredible so the destruction looks to be a lot of fun. Evil playthrough where you just trash everything will be my first port of call in the full version. I played good then bad in the first game.

I stumbled upon a mission which instructed me to help some guy "deal with his employees less than considerate parking choices" (aka smash, move or blow up their cars for him) Fun,I blasted one into a balcony which then came tumbling down ala the early videos. One car happened to belong to a less than happy police officer who I then had to battle. His moves were cool, but he was weak.
Will give the UGC a fair crack over the long weekend.

With the Uncharted 3 beta coming out in 2 months, I had half a mind to skip Infamous 2 til perhaps next year as I couldn't see myself fitting it in between AFL Live & UC3 but this is a fair reminder NOT to. As good as ever. (and much better than hobo with a shotgun) ;)

Err. Just realised the bonus soundtrack is a digital download. Would be nice to have an actual printed disc.

You'll likely be able to transfer it to USB, so while it's a bit more of a hassle, just burn it to a disc after transferring it?

Should be able to but I'm thinking more along the lines of it being "collectible" and being nicer if it was on an actual printed disc, similar to game disc art etc.
Might be worth a listen to once but after that, just a collectible item.

Played it (beta) for an hour last night and explored a bit more. You can cover the whole main island. There are others that are of course blocked by closed bridges.
I think playing for evil karma will have more appeal in this one as things are so much more destructible, the visuals for explosions, fire are better and the place is a dump anyway. Very much a marsh/swampland on the waters edge.
Add to that, bio leech in this looks way better and shows a skeleton figure as you drain them.
Being able to drain power from a car and use that extra power to jump a lot higher is useful. Drain and jump from the car to the tram lines above.

Spamming L3 shows the electrical sources as it did in the first but no blue dots (blast shards) have shown up on the mini map so I think they've left them out of the demo. They're sure to make a return as a way to increase your power bar though.

Infamous (1) was criticised in that Cole could fly, scale buildings etc but could not jump over or scale a small mesh fence. 2's jump & climb mechanics are a lot more useful and it does seem very little will stand in his way now which is good as he's supposed to be evolving.

If you found the first enjoyable, playable and thought it felt/controlled good. You should find this will trump that which is what a sequel hopes to do.
I hope they've evolved the story line as much as the graphics & mechanics.

Sucker Punch has confirmed it’ll launch a demo of inFamous 2, saying a taster is “definitely planned.”
The dev’s Kenneth Schramm says that the demo will launch within a couple of weeks, although when the exact date is remains unknown.

Lucky us.

Due to IGN's new (and shitty) rating system, inFAMOUS 2 is considered better in pretty much every facet than inFAMOUS...but gets a lower rating.

Don't see it being long until IGN revert back to their .1, .2, .3, .4, etc. system again. Everyone is already calling out IGN on their ridiculous amount of 8.5 scores that they've been giving and it just seems crazy when a game gets 9.2, then the next one considered better gets a lower score.

In no way saying that 9 is a bad score, just makes their system look terrible in comparison now. It's a bit like websites that review games out of 5 and don't use .5 increments, so you basically have a system of games being rated 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 with no real middle ground.

Only thing I can see being a bit out of whack here is the graphics score, from what I've seen of the game this is Uncharted 2 quality in an open world setting. And yet it's an 8.5.

Closing Comments
Everything in Infamous 2 is cleverly interconnected. If you neglect side quests, the city will be less safe (making the game more difficult) and you’ll have fewer skills to purchase. Neglecting to collect Blast Shards gives Cole less electricity to work with. Ignoring Dead Drops will keep the story darker and more nebulous. And refusing to work with UGC not only forces you to miss out on easy Trophies but also removes a welcome community feel to Infamous 2 that the original lacked.

Nothing exists in Infamous 2 just because, and that’s something developer Sucker Punch should be commended for. When combined with how well-executed just about everything in the game is, the overall package is one of PlayStation 3’s best and a must-play for fans of the first game. Don’t be deceived by niche subject matter like I was when the original Infamous first came out. This is a rock-solid third-person action game with an incredible story, great characters, meaty gameplay and – above all else – a string that effectively ties everything together.

9.0 Presentation
Infamous 2’s storyline is contingent on having played the original, but it’s a well-delivered tale with two totally different endings. There’s plenty to discover in terms of plot.

8.5 Graphics
The original Infamous was a good-looking game, but Infamous 2 cleans things up considerably. It looks great and runs well, and the animations are fluid.

8.0 Sound
Cole’s original voice actor is missed here, but the new guy does well enough. A great, moody soundtrack compliments a solid roster of voice actors.

8.5 Gameplay
Infamous 2, like its predecessor, is a hell of a third-person action game. The only thing that holds Infamous 2 back are camera issues and lackluster melee mechanics.

9.5 Lasting Appeal
Expect to spend 20 hours beating Infamous 2; twice that much if you want to do everything again. There are myriad collectibles to find, and User Generated Content galore to mess around with.

OVERALL 9.0
Also, news on how your previous inFAMOUS data will transfer over.

Source: http://au.ps3.ign.com/articles/117/1170993p1.html
When you boot up Infamous 2, you'll see an option that says "import Trophy data." By selecting it, the game will read your online Trophies and give you access to the following perks if you meet the criteria.

  • Have good or evil Trophies from Infamous: Start Infamous 2 at level 1 good karma or level 1 evil karma.
  • Infamous Trophy for 25 percent of the Blast Shards: Free energy core in Infamous 2.
  • Infamous Trophy for 50 percent of the Blast Shards: Two free energy cores.
  • Finished Infamous with any karma standing on any difficulty: 1,000 bonus XP for Infamous 2.
  • Specific Trophies for Specific Infamous decisions: Reflect side missions, Dead Drops and dialog variety in Infamous 2.

Only thing that was glaringly bad about the visuals that I've seen in the beta was pop in of parked cars as you grind the overhead tram wire. May or may not be in the final game but it certainly doesn't look good if you focus on them.

Can't wait to get this game. Ive preordered the hero edition and can't wait. If want to get it get the hero edition. It has everything to different weapons exp. slys cane, caveman club, samarai sword to skins exp. reaper skin, kessler skin. It even has an 8.5 inch statue of the character and a replica sling bag.

1 week til release.

$79 standard edition @ JB Hifi.:thumbsu:

$99 Lenticular special edition. (includes some DLC pre order bonuses)

$189 - Hero edition.

Now that JB have the standard edition so cheap the hero edition seems incredibly expensive (if it didn't seem that way already)
It better give me super powers.

Some people have already played & finished the game. Getting the same amazing praise the first got (few "one of the best single player games I've played" type comments.) So it looks like it will trump the first.

Think I found some wet concrete in the beta. (crap mobile phone pic)

LOL, looks like that hurts! Is that a balcony or just a street level grab?

FWIW, Hero Edition is $169 from GAME Online with free shipping.

I'm hoping that my MightyApe copy comes ASAP and I'm not having to wait for a week. Also hope that DNF doesn't come on the same day.

^ haha, that's what I was thinking. Amputee torso mode/skin.

Its street level HBK. Balcony you could maybe understand with how they destruct in this game but straight through the footpath when I tried to jump and grab above that window.

I preordered the hero edition at EB. Don't know if they'd match GAMES price. Not real fussed. I'll drop my daughter at kindy, swing by EB & the bakery and then home to play it til it's time to go to work.

Proper demo now up in all PS stores. A touch over 2GB.
From all reports, plenty of new powers are unlocked in the demo.
Can be found under "new PS3 demos"

Playing the demo at the moment, heap of fun. Feels more fluid then the first one. Graphics are much better, strange to hear Cole's new voice though.

I almost think if you didn't know it was a different voice actor, then you wouldn't really feel all that different.

But yeah, played the demo, was really good. A lot faster than the original. Definitely better looking, the boss you get to fight had a great scale to it. And the smoke effect looks AMAZING.

Cutscenes look infinitely better than inFAMOUS.

Powers are improved, quicker fire rate on your base power, much better glide/flight power, makes parkouring a lot easier.

Another thing, it's still very hard. Maybe even more so this time with the different enemies, one being a rushing enemy that is very hard to fight off with your regular shooting abilities.

Yeah, definitely looks amazing. I found the opposite though in regards to difficultly, I found Cole to be really overpowered. Was pretty easy. Hopefully difficulty improves.
