Roast It's time to talk about Doedee and Smith

Great. Another two years of Brodie’s contract to go.
Maybe north need a senior person around the club. Will have to pay 40% of his wage but worth it.

It's time to move some of the dodgy contracts off the books. I would start with Smith, ROB, Milera. We wouldn't get back much in picks but it would give us even more cap space to go after some big targets.

The club can keep meandering along being a victim of its own incompetence or they can make things happen.

Doedee used to be the cleanest player in the side, he's now a fumbling mess.

Smith used to atleast have an incisive kick that child pierce a defence, he now just does the long kick and hope.

What's wrong with these guys?
Smith is done. Just playing for super. Not sure about Doedee. Maybe his film reviews have tanked.

Doedee has struggled since his hand injury.

Smith hasn't been the same since his concussion.

Yet we persist playing them when we have other options in the sanfl.

Smith is slowing down but Doedee's form is the direct result of having the play 3rd tall by Nicks. He's not that, he's best playing loose which means bring in Worrell.

But Nicks won't play one of the most consistent players in the SANFL side and prefers to watch a good player slide

Smith and Dawson had near identical stats Today. Same kicks, same handballs. Only real difference was a goal to Dawson.

Smith doing much of his good work playing through the tag that Dawson couldn't cope with and that required a reshuffle.

I'd rather keep Doedee. Sure he's had a bad year, but he doesn't look 100% and he isn't being used properly.

Is a good third tall and will bounce back next year.
You would only trade him if part of a deal to get a better player in.

We lack his age group & he is playing injured imo.

Wonder if Doedee’s form drop is due to Dawson seemingly overtaking him as the next skipper?

Any coincidence that all of our Leadership Group have regressed since Dawson was elevated?

If they can't deal with that they aren't much chop. Most clubs have at least 5 Dawson level players.

You also have to remember that most managers tell players to tank their trade value this time of year if they are off.
That's unlikely to be true.

Usually, a manager might be looking to increase the value to their client by INCREASING their trade value. This in turn results in INCREASED dollars.

Do you have a source for your claim?

Generally the money is already agreed upon earlier in the season. If a player doesn't play to their optimal level it makes it less costly at the trade table for the deal to go through for the acquiring club. Charlie Cameron is a prime example. It's more likely the acquiring club than the manager that would advise players to keep their pick value down on further reflection. All clubs do it, the smart ones at least.

I would like Doedee and Smith to be Rested Managed for the next 2 games
They have to see if Worrell is up to it so replace him for Dodee
Hinge could cover Smith Spot
Newchurch or Taylor to come into the 20

If they’re that entitled or insecure then they’re piss poor leaders

It is almost like we panicked once we won the spoon and thought we would lose all our players.

No-one should be getting a multi-year contract that sees it end past 31yo. It is just bad list management.

It's not all on list management. Our selection philosophies rule out holding these guys accountable for their performances, so they just get to cruise on. Look what happened when ROB was finally dropped, but he knew that one big game keeps him in to the rest of the year. There's no internal competitiveness at our club, our hierarchy system sucks it all out.
