Lol you wanna go down this road? I wish I could but I already had a comment and its replies instantly deleted by your mods.

How about we a-Pell for a bit of common sense and advise you that going down this road is a cardinal sin?

You thought he was going to scrub his tattoos off and get a different family? Okay then…

At least he fixed his hair when he was old enough to know better.

I suggest you get a life, get back on your tiger army bandwagon thats starting to wobble and ride off into the punt road sunset.

And by the way. You're no longer premiers, you are as relevant as Myspace and or a VHS player.

I for one look forward to your inevitable slide down the ladder followed by the punt road tin rattling when all the pet members no longer renew in a year or two.

So happy to see the boys run out again and have a good feeling that our potency is bubbling under the surface...

In saying that, I feel we are still sometimes our own worst enemy with a few very basic principles that haunt us between the ears. We are the kings at times of stuffing about until it's too late, only then do they switch on and come out swinging on game day and seasonally if you look at our patterns under this current era. This has to be adressed to go to the next level.

We've got the vehicle, now we just need to drive it properly.

I know it was only JLT which is grain of salt stuff due to the experimental nature of it but i honestly believe we could of smoked them if we switch the catch up mentality 180...

I have put a line through Hartley and Long - both have ability but I think they will always be players who make too many mistakes.

Hartley is just too unreliable in the air.

Hartley is fine when he's just being a stopper; it's when they ask him to intercept mark instead of spoil that he starts to look confused.

I think he's a good depth negating Full Back, but isn't going to be a dominant intercept mark the way Hooker is as a FB that can translate it in to a rebound via the small defenders.

No, our base brand of football is weak in an around the ball and based on the players we select to play midfield it just doesn't appear to be a side of the game we respect, surprising as that might be.

We're probably the best team at playing when left to do as we want. Problem is that no serious team leaves you to play as you want. If only we could play St Kilda and Port every week.

This is why I was encouraged by McGrath's game, he lifted when the team needed someone to step up and take the game on when it was going against them.

Generally happy to see them get through unscathed on what was a brutally hot night and show some signs of good ball movement.

McGrath in the centre looks very good, would have liked to see more from Parish though; 14 disposals for -9 metres gained, is pretty poor.

Daniher doesn't quite have the spring back that we know, but it was good to see him out on the ground at least, hopefullly we see him right for R1.

Ridley I thought did some nice things, Tippungwuti looks very fit and ready to go.

Not too concerned about the 'dominance' of Cripps through the middle just yet, our Mids barely got out of 2nd gear chasing after him so he had all the time in the world. Hopefully we see a bit more effort next JLT to remedy that.

One team was really playing to win coz it was there home ground and they need to increase their membership.
The other team was 'just having a run'.
There was a big difference in intensity between the teams for most of the game.

Having said that, some periphery players such as Langford, Parish and Bags, who are fighting for a spot in the team, were disappointing.

Francis, Tippa and Hurley were the positives, along with Joe D moving freely and Stringer looking cocky.

Woosha looked disappointed at times. I think this disappointment was more about decision making than effort. Trying to run it out of defence when they are swarming when it should be kicked long over the top (a few of Francis kicks were brilliant) and vice versa, kicking to a contest when we have free players and should be running it.

I hope our coaching staff haven't made our game plan over complex. We have had a tendency to do this in off-seasons for a few years.

From an opposition perspective, I thought your best players were McGrath, Tippa, Hurley, Stringer and Saad. Probably in that order.

Your 1st choice midfield was overwhelmed in the first half, but (weirdly) got better in the second when Merret and Heppell went off, and Shiel got injured. Let you blokes move McGrath into the middle, where he nearly won the game for you.

Our young mids were able to get the ball into F50 from the centre breaks, and then largely were able to lock it in from there. When you blokes got it out you were able to run it down the ground reasonably fast (Saad, Tippa, McGrath and Shiel were good there).

I'm not sure if that's got a lot to do with the 666 rule, but it sure seemed to be a factor. Center clearances and fast breaks out of the middle led to the ball getting pumped into the F50 fast, and I saw a lot of defenders (on both sides) panicking and doing little holds of the jumper or blocks or positioning wrong.

I actually liked the new rules.

I wouldnt read too much into the game; it was 36 degrees and a 1st hit out (well, we played the Hawks last week so a second hit out for us). Clearly the players weren't going at 100 percent, and you rested a lot of good players at half time.

Good to have the footy back.

That match will probably turn out to mean more to Carlton, because you can now say that there is a group of half a dozen good young players to build a side around, and while they will still have their poor periods but the group seems to be heading in the right direction from a Carlton perceptive. The focus will be on Cripps and Walsh but I was impressed by Gibbon, he is the sort of second tier mid/forward that a competitive side needs.

Parish was disappointing for mine he should have been setting himself for a big game to really grab a spot in the side and he was extremely average.

Isnt that his game?

In space he's okay but in close he's effectively disposing of the ball 1/4-5 times.

His effectiveness as a midfielder is hardly advanced from 2016. He can get a bit more of the ball to do little with.

Not big or powerful enough to wear body contact and doesnt have the dynamic movement of Merrett and McGrath.

I would be tempted to play Parish forward and Walla go into the mid-field since we know Walla has clean hands in close.

That one big body mid still our achilles heel need Myers back. People will say Langford while he's going to be a good player he's not mid material imo is slow to get rid of the ball doesn't attack the ball or have enough mongrel like other good mids have

Think that's a fairly harsh appraisal of his ability to dispose of the ball in tight.

Agree that Myers is essential.

He doesn't necessarily have to be but the good thing about Myers is that he's allowed to spend time in the middle.

While I didn't think Laverde's work in the middle warranted mention, he was at least preventing Cripps from disposing of the ball even when he was positioned poorly/misread the play.

That we could play Zaharakis, Parish and McGrath in the middle together really has me wondering whether we've learned a thing.

That's a midfield setup which at best can get a clean break if our ruckman gets a clear win. The other 75% of the time it gets steam rolled by Cripps.
