The Kangaroos smashed Port today, so it'll be a tough game for us. I think we'll win but we'll have to improve on today's form.

Daniel Bell was clearly BOG for Sandy today, so he should play his first game for the club on Saturday. He was our first pick in the 2002 Draft (got him in the Woey trade) and is very talented. I'm tipping him to get 13 possessions and a goal. I hope so anyway. ;)

James McDonald and Nathan Brown are essential, and if fit both should return.

Carroll, Armstrong and Ward to make way for these three. Carroll is ****, Armstrong is struggling (he looks scared) and Ward is out of form.

Lamby's team:

B. Whelan Nicholson Bizzell
HB. Wheatley Rivers Brown
C. Johnstone Thompson Green
HF. Bruce Neitz Robertson
F. Davey Miller Holland
R. White Yze McDonald
Int. Bell, Godfrey, Read, Heffernan

Tactics/Matchups etc...

I would start Miller at FF and Neitz at CHF just to try something different. Miller is super quick on the lead and takes a good mark. Neita can't get a kick at FF right now so he should start up the ground to regain some confidence. I'd switch them around a bit though.

Brucey always kills North... I'm tipping him to dominate again.

Nicho on Rocca, Rivers on Petrie and Bizzell on Jones would be my defensive matchups.

Harvey is a star, will probably need a tag from Junior.

My tip: Melbourne by 15 points. Bruce BOG, Davey 6 goals.

Nicholson on Rocca would be an interesting match-up.

Neitz at a centre half forward would be interesting, but I've noticed that Miller is the only one who can get lots of the ball as a CHF because he runs so deep down the ground on the lead. So will Neitz perform that task? Who knows. But I think we should just open up the whole forward line for him and chuck Holland and Miller on the half forward line. Holland can be a stay at home centre half forward and Miller can be a leading centre half forward. I think this would be a nightmare for opposition teams. Put Davey in between the 50 and let Robbo roam and Brucey roam the flanks.

Ward looks likely to go out.
Carroll should be dropped.
Armstrong may be dropped.

McDonald should come back in.
Brown should come back in.

Which leaves one spot available. Vardy, Bell, Sylvia, McLean (how is his injury going?) and Walsh are the candidates I'd say.

i only saw the last quarter of the sandy game today and sylvia only touched it once i think (he kicked a goal with it) but i dunno bout the rest of the match

ward apparently has like a 2-3 week injury according to Triple M

Bell/Sylvia for Ward
McDonald for Armstrong
Brown for Carroll

Neitz should start at FF but if he is goalless in the first qtr then let him be a stay at home CHF coz Miller is a good roaming CHF

Holland can be full forward with davey and robbo roving

nicholson takes rocca due to roccas huge size

rivers on petrie

I've never seen a Sandy game when you have before to challange your opinions till now Lamby, but if Daniel Bell was "clearly BOG" for Sandy then Nathan Carroll was clearly BOG for the Demons. Bell did some good things but also made some ordinary decisions and skill errors and also held the ball too long too often.

That's a bit harsh on Belly!

He wasn't perfect, but he got stacks of the ball and used it well 90% of the time. On 2 occasions he did take too long to get rid of the footy, but he did get the handball away both times.

Maybe not 'clearly' BOG, but our best IMO. Mark Williams agrees.

It wasn't just the couple of times he was caught, anytime he ran with the ball he was either caught or nearly caught and didn't seem to notice it. A lack of awareness of those around you would kill you at AFL level and as much as I want him to get a game I wouldn't bring him in.

I don't really care what M.Williams thinks who was best. If Broadbridge, Vardy and Walsh weren't better I was watching a different game.

Hopefully Sylvia can improve his fitness over the next month or so and then make his much-anticipated debut.

Dees better win this week, because the next 5 weeks we will have to play at our best to get a win. Teams such as essendon and collingwood at round 12 and 13 seem to have the wood over us.

I thought Vardy was amongst the best for Sandy. He'd have to come back.

Don't quite understand this Miller hysteria all of a sudden. He can take a great mark but his decision making is ****house.

Miller definatly should be a starter this round...holland on the bench

Heffs deserves to stay, armstrong would be the obvious exclusion

IN: Brown, McDonald, Vardy

OUT: Carroll, Ward, Armstrong respectivly

i do however doubt neile will make that many changes

carroll going out for brown is the obvious one

I don't think it's at all harsh on Bell. That's what happened mate! Along with the Praccy match at McHale stadium i'd say on both occasions i've seen him live he's been OK at best.

You referred to him as being "clearly BOG" & that's probably why a few of the negatives have been raised. He did some good things, his judgement of the ball as it came in impressed me but he'll want to work on his awareness if he's going to be a real threat to the Melbourne team.

Not in my best either mate & Mark Williams can think what he likes...

Not gonna happen mate!

Ward's definitely going to miss & one of either, Vardy, Walsh or Broadbridge should replace him.

Sylvia's a month away.

Bell's at least one more "BOG" away in my book.

Just wanted to say goodluck in a sense that I hope its a game of quality contested football. Even though we won last year I felt Melbourne had the upper hand and we were lucky, and we were crushed at Canberra for the Wizard Cup.

Bruce and Davey are my biggest concerns, we struggle against small forwards ie; Matera, Milne as Makepeace and Sinclair are simply too attacking in terms of negating a small forward. And Bruce simply loves playing North, the emergence of Brady Rawlings tagging ability may be the way to go for us.

Anyway hope its an awesome game, and I'd be happy beating Melbourne by 1 point at the moment, playing great football. Petrie on Rivers would be an absolute gem of a match up.

broadbridge replacing ward wouldnt work well we need a good midfield to combat the roos with simpson, harvey, grant, sinclair, stevens

Bell and Sylvia and Mclean are atleast a few weeks away probably

Vardy or Walsh would be likely inclusions, probably walsh to play on a wing maybe.

I just think it's pretty cruel to overlook his 20+ possessions and focus on a couple of occasions where he was slow to get rid of the ball (didn't see him get pinged as well).

And at least his disposal is first class.

See that's the thing mate, ignoring the negatives gives people a distorted view of things. In order to get a blanced view one has to take all things into account. Nobody's slammed him completely, I gave him credit for reading the play & have no problems with his disposal.

However I've seen him in the flesh twice & he hasn't quite lived up to the hype, he may have only played two poor games in his time at Sandringham but I'm just calling it as I see it.

Pumping up youngsters is great I love an opportunity to do it myself, but going too far over the top doesn't help matters either.
