This isnt a thread on if his signed or not etc etc we all know he is not going anywhere, i want to ask fellow supporters just how good do you think this guy can be???

Personally i think he will be our next captain and is the best young talent i have seen at the club for some years ( over 10 actually) i think his disposal will get better this year as his only weakness would seem to be his kicking sometimes but his hardness and ball carrying ability , running through the lines taking the game on are all attributes he is blessed with and he is going to be a genuine star of the CFC for some time and i think he will play well over 200 games for us.

Interesting to see what other supporters think of him as everyone is different regarding opinions etc and do you think he will be our next captain after Juddy ?? and will he be a good leader??

If Murphy is even playing still, then yes he should be our next captain. I say that because Judd is 25, he'll probably stay at Carlton for 10 years and you dont demote a player like him from captain and Murphy might decide to retire in 10 years. I know that 31 is young to finish up but Murph might decide that he has done all he needs to in 10 years.

I just heard that the AFL have approved the "unusual contract conditions" of Smurf and an announcement is imminent possibly as soon as tomorrow. I just wonder what ramifications this will have for us possibly snaring ROK. I guess we will see.

FWIW I'd have Gibbs ahead of Murphy as a future Captain. Just seems like such a well-spoken, mature and intelligent young man, mind you I wouldn't mind Murphy either, but there is massive potentinal for leadership in Gibbsy IMHO.

Personaly I think Gibbs will be a better player, but I love Murph and think we are blessed to have both Bryce and Mark at our club. Not only are the guns on the footy field they also displayed leadership off it. Add Kruz into that mix and what a fine batch of young leaders.

I hope he can dedicate himself on the training track like the way Shane Crawford does. In 2007 his weakness was that he was slacking off on the training track and that reflected his performance in 2007 where he wasn't working hard enough in getting to contest. Now that Judd is doing a full preseason, I'm tipping Marc to have a blinder next year, espically in his fitness area.

Whilst we all recognise Murphy as an amazing talent, he just needs to tighten up a couple of aspects of his game, and this is mainly concerned with his disposal. Turnovers, and missed shots on goal have hurt him this year, but I would hope he can work of this over the pre-season, and see if he can go up to the next level in 2009.

He's going to be a very good footballer for a long while but that's all. Your description of him sounds more like "Gibbs" than "Murphy"

The only thing that you neglected to mention in the GablettJnr comparison is that Murph has done miuch more in his first 3 seasons than GablettJnr did.

Murph still strikes me as the kind of player that still has a bit of physical development go, he still kinda looks like a boy playing a mans game out there. but 3rd full pre-season could change all that.

i also kind of see him as a better versian of joel selwood. with a bit more class about him. and we all saw what an underdeveloped, underexperienced selwood did with a quality team around him. imagine what murphy will do!
