The thing about McRae is he is a guy you can really like without being successful.
Add success and he could be the greatest bloke ever.

Thank you Craig! One of if not the best decisions our club has made in a recent history!

Side note, thank you PonsfordMagpie for keeping this up to date over the past 2 seasons! You absolute legend!

Also with that win Craig McRae has now coached a win over all other 17 clubs! How fitting that he notched it up in a Grand Final, against the club he not only played for but won 3 flags with.

I love this bloke so much. I know a young bloke who was on the list when he was our assistant and he said back then fly was amazing. He used to check in with players who had moved on or were delisted well after the fact just to check in that they are ok. He just so authentic and genuine. He really does care.

He has also made it clear to the players that we the fans are so important and need to be treated with respect. As a 49 yo I’ve never felt as connected to the club as I have in the last 2 years. Fly has been the main driver of this. Every interview the players seem to mention the fans.

It’s the 3rd flag I’ve seen and the most enjoyable because of the connection.

This man will forever be a legend of our club.

I reckon they need to start giving medals to anyone who played more than 10 games if they were not part of the actual premiership team.

Taylor Adams
John Noble
Ash Johnson
Dan McStay

They should all be recognised for significant contributions to the team to get to a grand final.

And then the papers and forums would be full of “he played 9 games so should get a medal”.
I don’t know the answer. But tradition dicta’s only the players on the day receive the medal.
With the exception of Leon of course. But he did play in a GF that was ultimately for the winning team.

I too think they should do that. In the English Premier League, you only need 5 appearances to get a medal (out of 38 matches).

Squads of ~44 players. We always talk about 'team first' and 'every player on the list matters', they should be recognised.

The AFL should backdate it to the start of the AFL era, rewarding past players from the last 30+ years. That will help change the mindset and set this new way going forward.

I'll reference the EPL again, but when a team wins the trophy, the entire squad is happy and celebrating. There shouldn't be tears.

Fly has single handedly created a new era for the club.
He will deflect credit to others, but he has set the tone for what has happened over the last two seasons, and become a Collingwood legend in the process.
Listen to Tom Mitchell say he's never enjoyed his footy as much.
It's a reflection of the way Fly has made our boys love getting to work.
We are now a true destination club because of it.
Who wouldn't want to come and play in such an environment?

Thank the Lord that Hardwick didn't decide to go sun his balls in Queensland 2 years earlier.

Thank God that Wright had the sense to seek McRae out. Ed wouldn't have.

Thank Christ he is all ours.

Young and old alike he's allowed us to believe that the dreams of Collingwood supporters really can come true.

Sweet 16. Equal. That means a lot to the many who have been hoping for a generation.

Thank you Craig.

And the journey has just begun.

Fly told the coaching recruitment interview panel "I'm a winner". Wow has he proven that correct. But I love how he has taught winning behaviours while still having deep connection with the players, genuinely appreciating the fans and being the funniest and most likable senior coach in the game.

I know its cliche by this point. But you just have to call him Ted Lasso.

All our 3 last premiership coaches have been non Collingwood people
Its interesting the different legacies these three will leave.

Leigh was before my time so I find it hard to see him as a Collingwood person now. Mick I struggle to see as a Collingwood person but tolerate him given how much I appreciate 2010.

No matter what happens from here. Fly is always going to be a Collingwood person.
