Mid season draft 2024

If being asked to be medically cleared is any indication to go by, you'd think that the players listed above are more likely than not to be picked. From that list I'd be happy with any of the following

Jacob Blight KPD
Joe Pike Ruck
Will McLachlan Medium Forward
Ben Hopkins Medium Defender

I'd be happy for the club to give them 18 month deals to get a good look at them.
Whats your beef with Scaife and Howes?

Never been so excited for a mid season draft.

Connor Menadue plz

Whats your beef with Scaife and Howes?
Was reading about Scaife and his coach mentioned that he isn't a big pack mark so given the talk about how Yze wants to have strong contests inside F50, I'm not sure taking a kid who doesn't have that as a strength is the right move. As for Howes, I haven't really seen or read much about him but the little I have read mention that while he is leading the contested mark stats in the SANFL he can be a little more aggressive with crashing packs and being involved in the play when marking opportunities don't present.

Having said that if Toce and co decides to take either of them then I'm not going to complain.

Yeah fair enough. Plenty of improvement left in those 2 as they're so young still, Howes particularly.

With Naismith now gone, might not be the worst idea with our final pick (or 3rd pick) to take the best non AFL ruck available in the country. Only need to keep them on to end of year, it would just be a 6 month contract as back up for a mature body in that position.

No risk, just protects Ryan a bit or Balta from having to play permananent number 1 ruck if Nankervis went down.

If they were in their 20s then bonus if they came good as a cheap back up into next year as well.

Who can work their magic?

AFL: The Midweek Tackle team runs through the top AFL midseason draft prospects and who clubs are looking to take.

More than 120 players have put their hands up for next week’s AFL mid-season rookie draft, where at least a dozen dreams look set to be fulfilled.
The latest list of draft nominations – which was circulated to clubs last week – lists 127 players who have been approved by the league to be selected in the draft next Wednesday.
Further applications are still being processed, with draft nomination not closing until 5pm on Wednesday.
The order of picks for clubs will be finalised after the completion of this weekend’s round 11 matches.
North Melbourne – which has two available list spots – currently holds the No.1 selection as the Kangaroos sit one game behind Richmond on the bottom of the ladder entering the round.
Ex-AFL players who have nominated for another chance at the top level include former Collingwood midfielder Trent Bianco, former North Melbourne defender Flynn Perez and ex-Port Adelaide ruckman Brynn Teakle.

Former Gold Coast Suns-listed defender Jez McLennan has also attracted some interest, while Osca Ricardi (ex-Geelong), Arlo Draper (ex-Collingwood) and Kyle Dunkley (ex-Melbourne) are among other familiar names on the list.
Geelong Falcons ruckman Joe Pike did his chances of being selected no harm last weekend when he made his VFL debut for Geelong.
Recruiters were left impressed after the 19-year-old racked up 11 disposals, 30 hitouts (10 to advantage) and kicked two goals against Coburg on Saturday.
Peel Thunder defender Jacob Blight was also on the early nominations list and has received some attention from AFL clubs after a strong start to the season in the WAFL.
Blight is one 24 players undergoing medical testing ahead of the draft at the request of clubs.

Other potential top prospects who are having medicals include West Perth forward Jasper Scaife, Tasmanian forward Geordie Payne, Eastern Ranges ruckman Iliro Smit, Geelong VFL ruckman Ajang Kuol Mun, Collingwood VFL forward Jack Hutchinson and Geelong Falcons forward Will McLachlan.
There were 13 players selected in last year’s mid-season draft, with Ryan Maric joining West Coast with the No.1 selection.
Of the first 127 nominated players this year, 101 have requested short-term six-month contracts while 26 players nominated for a minimum longer-term contract ending in October next year.

Reckon we will only take 2 players in the MSD as the talent isn't there and the club realises the situation, we are now in.

The good news is it will be 2 young players who we can develop with our changing list.
Why not take 3? It's only a 6 month contract if they're crap move them on. The more we take the higher chance we have of finding a gem

.

The Tigers are considered a strong chance to pick in-form Peel Thunder key defender Blight, in part because Josh Gibcus (knee) is out for the season and Dylan Grimes may retire at season’s end.

North Melbourne have not spoken to Blight despite also having a need for key defenders. They selected Wil Dawson for his AFL debut at the weekend and are awaiting Griffin Logue’s return from an ACL rupture.
Their interest in Scaife coincides with coach Alastair Clarkson revealing after Sunday’s defeat to Essendon that the long-term plan was still for Charlie Comben, who has excelled down back this year, to be a forward-ruck.
The Roos played usual-defender Toby Pink alongside Larkey in attack against the Bombers, and have lost Callum Coleman-Jones (Achilles) for the rest of the season.

Collingwood’s 190-centimetre VFL forward Hutchinson is in the mix to be one of the first names read out, too, but is similar in height to North trio Cam Zurhaar, Zane Duursma and Jaidyn Stephenson.

Others rated a good chance of finding an AFL home next week include Woodville-West Torrens defender Luke Beecken, North Adelaide pressure forward Kelsey Rypstra, South Adelaide key forward Noah Howes, and South Australia’s under-18 captain from last year, Will Patton.
Forwards Oskar Smartt and Will McLachlan are two of Victoria’s leading candidates.
Hawthorn NGA ruckman Iliro Smit has also caught the eye playing for Eastern Ranges, while 200-centimetre ruck-forward Toby Murray could become the third member of his family to play in the AFL, behind Crow Nick and ex-Pie and Swan Sam.
St Kilda are committed to drafting a player from VFL affiliate Sandringham each year. This time around it could be 190-centimetre utility Max Benier, who played the past two matches for the Zebras after starting the season at Old Brighton.

Geelong and Melbourne are among the clubs interested in 200-centimetre Sandringham Dragons and Port Melbourne Colts defender Lachie Voss, sources told this masthead.

That have to make this stuff up ...

We have Bauer, Tresize, Gibcus and of course Balta to replace Grimes retirement but no bloody forwards and the player we are interested in is Blight, who is an absolute plodder who would make Garthwaite look like a greyhound

looks pretty composed and clean, decent overhead but what a butcher. makes young look like a player with reasonable disposal.
