The play below HT is here.

Just class by the kid.

Would love to get footage of that pulled kick to Hoskin-Elliott with a minute left. Absolute composure not to bomb it away and still hit up his teammate there too.
Unreal.

And to think at the age of 20 he probably doesn't have a feel for AFL footy the same way a Bontempelli or a Neale has.

Daicos at 24 years old is going to be scary.

Do we though?

Darryl Borlase played 246 games for Port Adelaide and was a 4x premiership player and captain.

His son just debuted for Adelaide because he was not eligible for father son.

It's definitely not equal for all clubs.

The cut off 200 regular club games by 1997. He played 201 games by 97, but 34 of them were rep games in the Escort cup.

Adelaide has him as a NGA though so will still stay local.

Felt like he had next to no impact on the actual result itself.

Only good play was that one on the wing.
Let me help you, here’s a couple of genius bits of play.
He takes responsibility and wants the ball in his hands - which people mistake for him being a seagull.

20 seconds left in the first half…

Just lost the lead after he missed a tackle on Berry which lead to a goal.

Being a Collingwood supporter and saying he doesn't duck, flop, stage for free kicks is like a Western Bulldogs supporter saying Brad Johnson didn't do the same.

The difference is Johnson did it in his final seasons where as Daicos has clearly started doing it in his second season.

Was at the game and haven't seen replays of the other two free kicks, but how anyone can say the first one wasn't a free is beyond me. He is tackled and going to ground and is collected in the head by Berry. Free kick every time.
It was somewhat there by the letter of the law but extremely soft. Daicos was being brought to ground by another player and Berry's arm was sort of already there. It wasn't a swinging arm or anything. Daicos head just sort of came down into it. It was a soft free, especially to open a granny

It wasn't somewhat there, it was there. And what counts as soft? Did he need to have been hit harder in the head.

At least we agree he wasn't ducking.

If you want to see one that wasn't a free by any letter and that even if contact had been made was truly soft, try Hipwood's in Dom Sheed's pocket in the first.

of course force matters. let's say a Collingwood player messes up a brisbane players hair being a bit cheeky for giving a 50m penalty away. Technically, it's high contact and should be a free kick. So yes of course force matters.

To a certain extent yes, but you are relying on the absurd in your example. He was caught by a stray arm in the head. It was a free kick. No doubt.

I bet some of the nuffies on here watch that last play before half time and think to themselves "two hand ball receives hur durrr seagulling" . Perfect example of why you give the ball to Nick whenever you can .
Yep, the same was said about Ablett when he was the best decision maker in the comp and therefore an Ablett possession chain was the most valuable thing for his side. At the very worst the play would end up where player B in the chain would send it anyway, but then he'd open up space/angles and create an improved play a fair amount of times too.

Daicos is another of these rare players and no team besides his own wants the ball in his hands 30 plus times.

Dual Brownlow medallist Lachie Neale trailing behind him in both instances because he can't go with Daicos.

I dont think it was stray. I don't think it was moving forward either. Daicos came down into his arm from what I saw. It certainly wasn't the worst free of the day but definitely soft.

Daicos is a jet but some of the attempted deflection of any criticism with the old "he's better at footy than you'll ever be so your criticism isn't valid" style fallacy in this thread is pretty tiresome.

If you remove his kick outs (56 for the season - he played on from every single one as he’s not silly) he goes from averaging 2nd most possessions per game to 14th. From 18th most kicks per game to 60th. From 24th in metres gained per game to about 50th.

It would also reduce his player ratings and disposal efficiency as it’s not hard finding a target from the kick in … and a long kick to a contest counts as an effective disposal.

He takes the kick outs because he’s a great kick and great decision maker, so of course it’s a skill many don’t have. But the sooner the game removes those stats from the players the better, particularly when the umpires will be getting back access to the stats for Brownlow voting in 2024.

A game with 26 kicks and 7 handballs at 82% DE with 770m gained looks a hell of a lot better than a game with 19 kicks and 7 handballs at 71% DE with 490m gained … thanks to 7 kick outs.

This goes for all players, not just Daicos. It provides a statistical anomaly that is zero to do with the player’s performance.

It’s funny how it’s all of a sudden become an issue in 2022-2023 after over 120 years 😂

The difference is Johnson never won a Premiership, but Daicos has in only his second season.

At least he made contact with the head.
Have a look at the Hipwood one against Moore in the 1st quarter.
Lions players were throwing their head back all day even when tackled around the waist.
Anyway, when it's all said and done the best team of the year and on the day won.

He's no Taranto, that's for sure.

How do you rate the rest of his game outside the kick ins ?

Just watched the game again (for maybe the 5th time).

Nick Daicos is a freak, simple as that.
The run, the poise, the decision making, the follow up and the quality of his disposals.

At 20yo, I can only imagine what he will be in a couple of years.

All things being equal, we will have the absolute pleasure of watching him for another dozen years.

There will be some sad, salty people, who must just be unhappy with life, so they must try and find faults in anything to make their own pitiful existence manageable.

To these people I say this.
If you take his beautiful Collingwood jumper off and put him in your colours, you would be stoked.

I can smile, when I watch the Bont, I also smiled when watching GAJ.

He plays for Collingwood and you may not like that, the media go overboard and you get sick of that.
None of this is his fault, he just wants to have a kick and be the best person he can.

Don't be negative, don't hate the kid because of other influences, just be grateful that Nick and other young stars like him, have our great game in a wonderful place.

Not that long ago, the game was getting to be unwatchable, it is fun to watch now and like it or not, it is players like Nick that will continue to bring kids to our game and inspire them to play the game.

Don't be miserable people (especially a few Melbourne and Carlton people and those 4 Richmond flogs ;)) the world is ok, so find positives in life.

The kid is a gun and will only get better.

Most frustrating thing is people bagging his "seagull" behavior. Id want this kid taking 20 handball receives and kicking 20 times. Anyone who says different is pulling the other one

Still showed on Saturday when the heat was on in the fourth , he went hard at it along with some gut running. With that passage from Cox > Naics > Pendles> Naics > De Goey Goal

All this on the back of six weeks off with an injured leg.

Maybe if you stop reading stats (and in Dusty's case making them up) and just watched the game, you may get a better appreciation for how good the kid is.
Do you really think Nick or any Collingwood supporter cares whether he is 2nd, 14th, or 60th for disposal, or if his 38th kick on his left side, led to a score involvement to the northern end of the ground, or any other obscure stat you want to throw out there?

He is a 20yo kid, who loves playing football, just wants to get the ball, have a kick and does it with an infectious smile on his face.

One doesn't need stats, to see if a player is a gun or not.

Please keep you BS stats and ratings to the Dusty GOAT thread, that is where your embarrassing take on football, should be kept.
