No Steel in Sidebottom

Since the 2010 Grand Final when I thought he would be a star, Steele Sidebottom has gone backwards.

He seems to be so up and down.

Some matches he is great and some times he looks like he can't even care.

I just not sure what goes on with him.

He played about 15 minutes of real quality bt his set shots for goal make me shudder.

For a guy who kicked 10 goals in a TAC Cup final, he misses more times than not.

Unusual time to post it seeing as Sidebottom was one of our best last night and looks set to take the next step while playing more time in the midfield.

I think the issue is more with those who think he will be a star. And those who think he is an elit kick. You are going to be disappointed, and that isn't Steele's fault.

He will be a solid player, but never a star in my opinion. Last night he was solid, but really hurt us in not finishing in front of goals. He needs to work hard on his skills.

Why? I don't think there is anything all that bad in his post. In fact I agree with almost all of his comments, except the suggestion that he has gone backwards. I just think he had a good GF series, but his normal output prior was never at that level.

Blessed has been all over the site with negative comments about a number of players.

Some people turn on their own when things get a little tough.

Players develop at their own pace, the exciting thing about Steele is that we've had a taste of his potential.

Just because he's not developing at the same rate as Pendlebury or Thomas were, doesn't mean he's not going to be a star.

I was definitely one of the people who was dissapointed with his 2011 season but I thought he was fine last night. One thing that dissapointed me was his lack of time in the midfield, which Blair got more of. Although Blair was awesome last night.

You cannot win every game. We lost last night - big deal !
I have never bagged any player on our list.
Steele looks casual when he plays.
The shots for goal he missed were from 50 metres out.
He is not a long kick.
When any player pushes for distance, they usually miss.
He wasn't our worst player last night !

We are not all here to get into one big circle jerk, we are here to get people's opinions on reality. Blessed just seems to tend more toward the 'half-empty' view. But that is no less annoying than people who are overly 'glass half full'.

I get what ur saying but "no steele in sidebottom" cmon? why didnt he just go in post match thread and state that he thought he didnt play well, or give his POV? he is an attention seeker and a lot of people are just over his negativity...

Steele's work in stoppages is fantastic. He is not just a small forward anymore. He is a developing luke ball type mid.

We had 5 people who scored 2 points last night. It was a group failure. Steele is great and i believe his time in the midfield this year will fast track his development.
He may need to improve he shouldn't need to be kicking for us to get back in from, whilst getting a ridiculous amount of clearances.
Pendlebury missed when we needed him to kick one, too. But you don't hear people ragging on him.

I thought Steele had a fairly good game last night. He is still young and still has alot of improvement in him. He will be an A grade player for us in the future IMO.

Sidey missed a couple of shots for goal but so did many players. Also thought he was one of our best last night, certainly a better contributor than say Thomas. His stats seem to go unnoticed week to week. Steele was not one of the reasons we lost.
