Massive game for Primus and his future coaching aspirations. Seem to recall Craig pulled off a win over Port in 2004 which helped sure up his position.

On form we should give them a spanking, particularly with them coming back from Darwin in the heat. You'd expect Gray and Boak to be ins for them but they looked pretty average for three quarters tonight. Salopek hurt his shoulder again.

Good thread - people chuck the old "danger game" line around too much, but this one is a definite danger game if ever a side faces one. Port have lost 9 on the trot, no doubt this will be their grand final yet again ()...well actually, it'll be interesting to see if they trot that one out under Primus as opposed to Williams; but regardless we'll be coming off one of the most intense games of football I've ever witnessed with a lot of young bodies needing to come up.

If anything, I think the way we back things up next Sunday will be more telling than the win we just had.

Port supporters are certainly fortunate to be able to play off in so many GF's!! :thumbsu:

ok so we all know port power take showdowns seriously. probably more so than the crows (historically) but this week i want nothing less than 100% and a win

Let's get real they are down and out coming back from a sanua We are flying even allowing for a bit of a let down after last night we should win and win well.

Fairly sure we lost last minor round game 2004 when Craigy was just a fill in we won first showdown 2005

We must not underestimate the difficulty of this match.

Port is any case is always a tough encounter, no matter the ladder positions, but Primus is still fresh and new AND we are coming off a very demanding game which a lot of kids played in.

So far our kids have been highly consistent from game to game but they're due to a downer and I have a feeling that this week could be it if we take it too lightly. Thankfully the boys have a pretty good head on their shoulders.

We should win, but we can't simply expect ourselves too.

Be interesting to see Port's ins and outs for next week. I expect Chapman to be in a bit of strife for a lift-slam tackle, and motlop might be unlucky also for a high bump.

Salopek might be doubtful with a shoulder. Boak will be over his virus but no telling what Gray will be doing. Chad will come straight back.

...And will Tredrae be a surprise inclusion for a timely final game, perhaps with josh Carr, as alluded to by radio commentary before tonight's game?

I saw nothing in Power's game tonight that would suggest we will lose this one. Bulldogs were ordinary at best, but at times Port were simply woeful.

I will slash my wrists if we don't win comfortably.

I dont even want to think about our ins and outs with Porps, Bock, Knights, Burton, Armstrong all hankering for a game. This week will be the most difficult week for the year at Crow's selection, with a lot of class players putting their hands up. Team selection against Geelong was spot on.

I hope we get it right again this week and smash Power like we should.

Sorry my bad.

Thinking back there was a significant win for Craig but it wasn't the Showdown. It was against the Kangas after we'd been spanked by 150 points the week before.

Good post except Burton didn't play today, late replacement with the ankle and why would Armstrong come back in?

Almost repeat performance for Port as against the Eddies. Switched on first term then witches hats for the rest. Only diff is that the Doggies were keeping their petrol tickets for Freo next week. Crows should smash them.

One extra day recovery.

Port struggle coming back from Darwin the following week.

If the same 4 quarter effort is shown as last night...Crows in a canter.

I totally agree, next week is a real danger game for us. The only reason we could lose this game would be if we go into the game expecting to win.

Birdman, I just cant see him fitting in anywhere at the moment. Not sure there is space on the ground for him considering our forwards are beginning to look ominous. Unless we lose a wingman perhaps.

I thought Armstrong hadn't been too bad at all. Sure, young and some mistakes, but generally very quick, plays tall and small, and has shown some flashes of class particularly on the very last line of defence chasing down a ball bouncing towards goal, or running down a player who was on his way to goal, and getting his hand to the ball at the right moment. He wouldn't displace the others I mentioned if they were all fit and in form, thats for sure, but he still puts pressure on others to keep performing...perhaps Symes for eg.

I hope your right, we need percentage badly as it could mean the difference between 8th or 9th and this game will most probably be our last chance to really improve our percentage.

Pros and cons for BOTH sides:

  • We've just played at an incredible intensity against the top team and won. We'll be fatigued no doubt, but we've got 8 days to get over it.
  • Port are coming back from a hot and stinky encounter that they lost. Got one less day to recover.
  • Both sides want to win the showdown. For us it's an imperative because we can still mathematically make the finals. Port can't.

Chaplin & Motlop SHOULDNT be suspended. But if Chaplin goes, who would they use to cover both Tippett and Walker? Obviously Carlile to Tippett, Walker would towel up Salter or whoever they would use on him.

I also heard Gray only did "OK" in the SANFL reserves. Would he be a likely in?

they'll have plenty of spare covers on the night ;)

The port game will be tough. History tells us this. No matter where each club is on the ladder the game or how they are performing is usually a close tough game.

Yeah exactly. I know we are flying and Port are absolute crap, but as you said history tells us that doesn't really mean much with Showdowns.

The one thing we DO have control over is the crowd. We need to get as many Crows supporters out there as possible on Sunday.

AFC have been advertising the game to Crows supporters, do they normally do this for Power home games? (AFC.com.au/Email/Gameday)

I wouldn't be expecting Chad to be an automatic inclusion for them. Listening to Primus on The Footy Show, he hinted that Chad had played well, but would need to string a few good performances together for Glenelg first... I think their inclusions will be Carlile, Boak and Krakouer going by what Primus said.

Highly unlikely given his injury history.

Just need to focus on doing what we do well and we'll get up. Yep, it's another GF for Port Power (they always want to beat us, as all little brothers with an inferiority complex over their big brother always should).

My predicted highlights:

  • Port declaring they're underdogs, which is a Showdown tradition and has been going on even when they were top of the table.
  • Someone from Alberton - probably Brogan - saying in the media that they desperately want to end our slim finals chances.
  • Grandpa Cornes declaring the game 'too close to call'.
  • Josh Carr to come out swinging, take about 5 of our blokes out then retire. This is the part of the Port Power club song which talks about 'the true Port Adelaide tradition'.

Excellent news. :thumbsu:

clearly no one from the Power staff wandered out of their office to see what was going on outside.

Got heckled by the Port faithful too :thumbsu:

You know what, its our GF too. We lose, we won't play finals.

We simply have to beat the teams below us, and snag a game or 2 against those above us, if we're serious
