Player Watch Pick #23 (2019) - Dylan Williams

Staggers me that Jones gets a gig before Williams. He was stellar last year. Absolute break out year and he cant get a spot before someone who handles the ball like its got 10 litres of oil on it and is responsible for multiple opposition goals per game
But he has a mullet and does tiktoks. So, you know, winning.

But he handles it quickly.

Unfortunately our defensive game plan is not well suited to a player like Williams. In fact, it's not suited to any of them. So i'm not sure why they do it

Yep. Would be an astute pickup for a club with a better defensive system that doesn't have its defenders constantly participating in 100 metre sprints back towards goal because the opposition took one contested mark and the whole system broke down.

Looks like he’s put on some extra kg. It’s effected his movement.
He has always been slow and he always will be slow.

You either work around the fact he is slow or don't play him.

I personally don't think you can play him, Houston and Burton in the same team. They are all poor defenders, and both Houston and Williams are especially slow.

Yeah our lack of leg speed is clearly hurting, especially with our high press forward game plan. We will continue to be torched by fast small forwards.

These defenders are more suited to the sit back game plan, even our small forwards are blistering, unless we play perfect football for 120 minutes were cactus. The game plan is now being completely exposed.

So either we need to work out how to score effectively from a congested forward line, which we haven’t solved in god knows how long or we need to change?

Taken in the same draft as Georgiades, Mead, Bergmann etc. considered a number one chance and then struggled through the year.

He no doubt has talent. His turnaround from delistee to AFL option has been great. However, his lack of fitness, agility and speed - essentially all the things that he can work on and improve, shows a lack of intent. It’s just not good enough.

Youve got to remember that AFL footyball is really tough.

Sure Sinn looked good in the first practice game and we gave up a bit to get him in the draft, but when the real stuff starts and you need someone who can pad their stats with kick-ins and otherwise do less than the bare minimum like Burton or Williams.

Speaking of, is last night the first time all 4 players were on the park for our AFL side at once?
